I did exactly that in a 3 bedroom house. Shortly after I had had 2 skylights installed in the master bedroom it occurred to me that the incredible light was being wasted during the day and I found myself standing in there looking at the sky. So I made the switch and have never regretted it for a single minute. I use one of the bedrooms for me and one as my guest room. It works out well. Have fun with it.

Eight years ago, my husband suggested that I take our Master Bedroom as a sewing room. He'd just tripped over something for the third time that day coming into my sewing room--the 2nd sized BR in the house. I waited three days, kept asking him if he was sure about my moving and he said yes. Day four I moved. Took three days. I have a lot of "stuff," and everything is essential. I've outgrown it now, but wont' take over my living room--I use that to watch TV at night and do handwork. I say MOVE. Why cramp yourself when you live alone.

Happy, spacious sewing.

For the re-sale of you house I would leave the wall as it. But if you don't use your master bedroom. move on in. You live there you can do what you want. Maybe you will be able to sleep in one of the smaller bedrooms and feel more comfortable instead of a larger room or the couch.

I think that would be nice for you to have all in one room and room to move around. good luck

Turn Master Bedroom into sewing room

I've been thinking about this for awhile, making the master bedroom my sewing room. I live alone in a 5-bedroom house. Three of them are very small, like 10'x10', and I use one of those for my sewing room and one for an office. The third is a guest room with just a bed and dresser. The 4th bedroom is a little larger and is where the longarm is. It barely fits in there, have to angle it out from the corner to be able to squeeze around one end of it to get to the back. My master bedroom is 15'x16' and it's the largest room in the house practically. I thought about using the living room (it's not used other than to walk from the front door to the family room) but with the cat I wouldn't be able to keep her off of everything. To tell the truth I usually just sleep on the couch in the family room anyway.

I've even thought of having the two walls between the 3 smaller rooms taken out and put in one wall to make two bigger rooms but don't think I want to put that money into this house. Would it be ridiculous to use the master bedroom for the long arm and sewing tables? I could still keep the fabric organized in the other room and make the 4th one my bedroom.

I know that no one else really has any say in it and I can do whatever I want, it's my house. It just feels a little weird to do that.

I see no earthly reason why you shouldn't have the nicest sewing room possible in your home, since it does not inconvenience anyone else. I would make the master bedroom my sewing room in a minute and take the next largest room for my bedroom. In my circumstances, none of my bedrooms are very big so I would take the livingroom which I now use as a diningroom or my family room which we use like a livingroom and make it a studio for both sewing and painting. Right now I have my husband to consider and he hates change so I haven't done that. My sewing room is a small bedroom and my art studio is the dining area, not ideal but better than nothing.

Wow, good for you. I would love to have an extra room in my house that I could dedicate to only quilting/sewig. Right now I'm in the precess of purging my house, husband included, lol and when I'm done with that/him, I'm planning on turning my biggest bedroom which you could consider the master bedroom into mysewing room. I, too, sleep on the sofa most of the time. I start my applique pieces and before I know it, I'm asleep on the sofa. So, hey, like everybody else says and I do too, go for it......Have Fun! ! !. Let us know how it turns out.....Got Pics??? LOL

I live in a town house and have two master bedrooms. I spent the entire summer turning one of the bedrooms into my sewing room. I ABSOLUTELY LOVE IT! Now I have space and light. You won't regret it. I did put a day bed in the "sewing room". It gives sleeping space when I need it and there's lots of space underneath to hide (I mean store) plastic containers of stash, batting, etc. GO FOR IT !!!!!!!!!!

I turned my master bedroom into a sewing/quilting room a year ago and I have no regrets. Go for it!
