I applaud you( lil laugh)... However, you may have to eventually come to some understanding with your mom on this topic or forever deal with the snide remarks ( not to mention many others who feel the same and are very vocal about it).
I personally feel that if you mentioned several real facts..It might stop many from criticizing... Maybe something like> "Mom, there is no disputing that your quilts are beautiful and done very traditionally ..However for me, durability, price and or time control are Most important to me. And I am intelligent enough to have done extensive research on this subject...Now If someone "requests" the traditional method and or I wanted to place a quilt in competition, make no mistake I could do it ... I just love the thought of someone being able to cuddle, wallow, and reg wash my quilts and have them still hold up beautifully. So this works for me ( insert big smile) EDIT: Grace Moorelinker, I just had to say- I am lovin your avatar flip flops! lol |

good statement I agree with you. Do you know why a car's WINDSHIELD is so large and the rear view mirror is so small? Because our PAST is not as important as our FUTURE. So, look ahead and move on. |
I thought they were darling decos. Thanks may just make me a pair
|
I think you should...It seriously looks like they are made from quilting scraps lol

In a way, it's sad that has come to this. But you certainly were in the right to call her out on your quilt. I bet if you think back she carped at you about a lot of other things, or you could say "nit-picked". At some point you have to boil over or burst. Congratulations on (I would say growing a pair, but!!!) standing up for yourself *grin*

Congratulations - sometimes you just need to stand up for yourself but I am sad that you had this altercation with your Mom, but. My Mom was extremely critical of everything I did and somewhere around age 40 I figured out that I was doing OK and that her opinions were just that - her opinions.

Deanna,
You did the right thing. I have had to set boundaries with my mother a few times along the way and although it made her mad, it allowed me to keep my self-respect. And when it comes down to whether I make her happy or I make me happy, I'll pick me every time in a situation like the one you described. Sorry to say it but your mom needs to grow up. Good for you! |
Good work. It is really very difficult to deal with someone like your mom. But you showed courage under fire! I have no doubt that she loves you BUT love shouldn't hurt. It appears that this quilt is just the tip of the iceberg. You stand your ground. It sounds like your separation period is late but strong. You go girl...tie, fold, run naked through the LQS, do whatever you want! You are Woman, hear you roar.

good for you!!!If she is anything like my mother.....she won't contact you until you apologize. I hope that won't be the case because everyone has to stand up for what they believe...good luck!!!
|
Good for you. I hope she realises now that she has to treat you like an adult and have respect for you and your choices. After all, there really aren't any right or wrong ways. Seems to me the way we do things keeps changing and isn't that just life.
