I too, am slow in getting my block to you. We are building a house, living in very small temporary housing and I'm trying to finish a baby quilt that I started some time ago. If that isn't enough, hubby cut part of the two middle fingers on his left hand off in a farm accident about 10 days ago. One finger isn't healing the best, so we are at the doctor about 45 min away at least 3 times a week. Life is crazy right now, but I do plan on getting a block to you. If you can't wait, just let me know and I'll delete it from my files.

Sorry it's taking so long.

Hi Pat, just seen your reply to my post. If I get the pattern from Sherryl anytime soon I will copy and send you one if you will PM me your mailing address. As you well know I am not far from Silverdale and hubby or both of us are over there often.
I wondered if I was the only one having trouble with getting it to print on the whole page for me.

Have a great Sunday and a good week ahead. Nice meeting you neighbor!

Mine wouldn't lay flat at first either but once it was sewed & I took the paper off for some reason it all worked out & pressed flat. Maybe you are all stopping too soon. I know I was about to.

This is terrible... but I"m relieved to hear someone else had problems.. I have scrapped my block so many times!!! I can't get it to come out... I'm going to try and get some fusible and see if I can make one that way... I just can not get it to come out.. it is either off or will not lay flat... grrrrrrrrr
I'm still trying!@!!I LOVE this pattern.. I really want to learn it.. but It's gotten to the point DGH is threatening me with a bar of soap for my mouth!!! sigh...... don't give up on me!

I"m in the same boat! After several attempts, I can't get it to lay flat...I will send other blocks this week.

auntdeb 07-17-2011 06:19 AM

I had to call "uncle". Sent two other red/wht/blu blocks. Just could not get the whole thing to come together. Am going back to it. When I get it I will send a block.

Thanks for asking. The pattern was sent in exchange for any 12 1/2 block. It does not have to be the Candlequilter Star block but any block you wish to send. I tried very hard to state that each and every time I sent the pattern because I know that the pattern can be time consuming for some. Plus I know how busy everyday life can get. So it has always been for any 12 1/2" block they wish to send. Plus many people like to get patterns to be used or tried later on - so sending any 12 1/2 block helped to eliminate the rush to try this one. Maybe I didn't make that clear enough but I really thought I had.

Thanks for asking again,
Sherryl
Candlequilter

Cool, I'll have a 12 1/2 block in the mail to you pretty soon then. I very well could have misread (I do that alot) or simply forgotten (I do that alot to lol). Thanks for stating this again for all of us! It was red, white, and blue or fall colors correct?

Thought I would repost this for everyone...If I understand her post correctly you can send her ANY 12 1/2 inch block to help her finish her charity quilt..the "candlequilter's block" pattern is her way of saying thank you for the help....

auntpiggylpn 07-17-2011 07:04 AM

Yep! If you don't have time or are having problems with the candlequilter block, all she is asking is for another 12 1/2" block of your choice.

Marvel 07-17-2011 09:17 AM

Hi. I would like to see the pattern and know what size block you need. I am confined to bed a lot waiting for surgery so this will give me something to do. I can cut the pieces and sew it while I am in bad. Marvel in Ok.

rn2wendt 07-17-2011 12:18 PM

working on it, but having trouble figuring out the block i know it is just because i am so tired, having to work overtime at the hospital lately so don't give up i will come through.

I'm in this club, too. I will try again this week. I absolutely love the pattern, but am having trouble getting it right. I have had to tear it apart so many times, that I now have to start from scratch as the poor little pieces are just worn to bits from my seam ripper. :(

rn2wendt 07-17-2011 06:07 PM

i found if I make several of the pattern pieces then lay them out i can see how the opposite one is to look. i just had too many of the one direction and none of the other direction. just take your time and try it again. i believe i just might have it figured out. good luck ladies.

I am impressed with your Stars Patches

stitchntimesewing 07-18-2011 02:45 AM

I am so sorry that so many have not sent their blocks. I was unable to complete a block from the pattern. I am a very new quilter and had never done paper piecing. Boy did I learn my lesson. Perhaps I can talk one of the instructers at Joanns to have a class in paper piecing and I can eventually do your pattern. But I did send a different block for the fall colors about 3 or 4 weeks ago. Hope that you received it. :?

DebbieJJ 07-18-2011 01:02 PM

I haven't forgotten about the block, just too many things going on right now. I WILL do one soon, I promise!

krabadan 07-18-2011 03:33 PM

My apologies too Candlequilter. I am a long way off from making a block that I can send you. One thing I've learned though is that I need A LOT of practice paper piecing.

I haven't heard of this block. If you will email me the pattern, I will make an attempt to try it.

quilter in the making 07-18-2011 05:47 PM

Well, after 14 hours I managed to finish the block. Unfortunately, only two of my points match and the unfinished block ended up at less than 12 1/2 inches, so it's unusable for candlequilter's purposes. Now I'm on the search for an appropriately sized block I can send instead. Sometime in the future I do hope to conquer this block, but I can't afford another 2 days to try again right now. I'm very humbled at this point.

quilter70 07-19-2011 11:21 AM

where do I send a 12-1/2 block to?

rn2wendt 07-19-2011 11:53 AM

yeah, i got my block done, and in the mail today. it was a challenge, and i actually made two blocks which are the same, due to my mistake in directions, so i hope candlequilter can use them in her project.

The address is in the information that Sherryl e-mailed you with the pattern.Check the last page you copied.

Barbara Lee 07-20-2011 10:20 AM

Shella now I can't find the new candlequilter star block you sent out. Sorry - can you tell me how to find it. I'm usually not this scatter brained but to much going on.

Did she ever mention which colorway she was most in need of? I missed the part where she needed any 12 1/2" block so I may have missed that part too...

Traditional 07-20-2011 12:53 PM

Red, white and blue.

Kat29803 07-20-2011 01:02 PM

I, too, have been trying, and failing, to get an acceptable block. I got so frustrated I quit trying but will try again. I think this "cool off" will help!

Hi. My name is Carla. I've been reading the board for some time now, but only recently became an official member. I promised to make a block for Sherryl. I am a beginner quilter and had never attempted paper piecing. I fell in love with her star. I'm posting a photo of my first attempt so that everyone can have a good laugh along with me and am also posting a photo of my second attempt. I have pm'd Sherryl and let her know that she can have the second one if she wants it. I plan on making her one or two more but not sure when i will get them done. The first one took me 2 weeks and the second one, I completed in 2 to 3 hours.

Thank you for the PM and thank you for the laugh - I truly appreciate all of your hard work. Paper piecing is a separate critter of its own for sure. Thanks for sharing both of your blocks. It shows your determination and that you acheived your goal in the end. I love the colors and your block looks great.

Thanks again for your help.
