candlequilter 07-15-2011 05:28 PM

I know alot of people are looking forward to seeing the quilts that I will be making from the Candlequilter Star Blocks that members have been making after receiving my pattern for the block. So far I have received less than 20% of the promised blocks for the pattern so until I receive enough of the blocks to complete a charity quilt I am at a stand still. I do hope that more blocks will be coming as was promised but time will tell.

Thank you for all the help to the ones that did make a block.

Thanks again,
Sherryl

as for my block... I have had one heck of time trying to get one made.. between my doctor apts and my brothers sickness and eventual passing, now I have my grandsons for 3 weeks. I will get you a star block as soon as I can find the time to get one made... sorry for the delay..

ksea 07-15-2011 05:43 PM

Candlequilter, I am sorry to say that after 5 attempts and even following your tute I still cannot complete a block with your pattern. I know that I promised a block in exchange for the pattern, so I will send you a block, done in a different patten and also return the pattern for the Star Block to you. I am sorry for any inconvience that this has caused you.

auntpiggylpn 07-15-2011 05:47 PM

I sent mine! I could make another if you need it. Let me know what colorway you are lacking most of. . .

moonwork42029 07-15-2011 05:51 PM

I know excuses are like elbows and that everyone has a couple.

Between a new GD with her Dad being in pre-deployment status (leaves USA in 15 +/- days), family from Wyoming coming in, family from Indiana coming in, Mom's 73rd birthday and general work I have actually been afraid to attempt it seeing all the difficulties some have had doing it.

I apologize for the delay. If you wish for me to delete it from my files please let me know and I will do so. I do plan on attempting it within the next couple months. If that is too long please let me know and all will be okay.

Again, I'm sorry for any problems my delay has unintentionally caused you.

Lisa

This is terrible... but I"m relieved to hear someone else had problems.. I have scrapped my block so many times!!! I can't get it to come out... I'm going to try and get some fusible and see if I can make one that way... I just can not get it to come out.. it is either off or will not lay flat... grrrrrrrrr
I'm still trying!@!!I LOVE this pattern.. I really want to learn it.. but It's gotten to the point DGH is threatening me with a bar of soap for my mouth!!! sigh...... don't give up on me!

mzmama 07-15-2011 06:04 PM

I sent mine, and I too if you need another I will make one.
It does take me most of the day to make it, I make it with love.

The one I sent in was my second attempt. The first one took me almost a day and a half to do it wrong!!!! To do it right it took about 3 hours!!!

gotthebug 07-15-2011 06:36 PM

I sent mine in this week. I too could attempt another block if needed. Let me know what you need.

Mary M 07-15-2011 06:50 PM

Not knowing how difficult the block can be to make leaves me wondering what I should do. I don't need the frustration I got from trying and now wish I had never asked for a copy of the block. Life is too short to spend so much time on trying something that just doesn't work for me. I am sorry I couldn't get one sent and will do as you want with the pattern. I am unhappy about not being able to send you a block from your pattern but will send another block that I can make if you want me to. Mary

quilter711 07-15-2011 07:01 PM

Candlequilter,
I did send one block. I thought we might be under a time constraint. I wanted to get it to you quickly. I will make more blocks!! Don't get discouraged. I know this board will come thru for you :) Any special request, please let us know.

Nancy

QuiltE 07-15-2011 07:27 PM

Oh dear!
Hope that my block made it thru to you .... sent it shortly after the postal workers were back on the job here!

Kitsapquilter 07-15-2011 07:42 PM

Sherryl, I still have not been able to get the pattern to print the entire pattern on the page. Next time we or Hubby is over at Silverdale maybe we can stop by and pick up a copy of the pattern. I still want to get one done. I don't understand what to do to get the one you sent on e-mail to copy correctly for me. And I have been out of sewing mode lately. Still don't have the bumper pads and skirt done for the new grandson. Got to get on that as he might start scooting around in his bed soon.
I want to do your block though just to prove that I am capable of getting her done! I have sure seen some pretty ones coming on here though.
Linda

I"m in the same boat! After several attempts, I can't get it to lay flat...I will send other blocks this week.

amyjo 07-15-2011 08:11 PM

I, too am in the same boat. can not get it right. don't know what I am doing wrong. will get it to you as soon as I can- two if I figure it out.

babyfireo4 07-15-2011 08:28 PM

ditto here- I have not forgotten, I promise! can't seem to do it right. Idk how many times I've put something on backwards or it would get a noticeable pucker... sigh. I'm working on my last time constraint project and will be able to spend more time on trying to make this work and get it to you. This def. isn't a good beginner block lol :)

SnowQuilt 07-15-2011 09:34 PM

I sent mine yesterday. If you would like, I could make another one, just let me know what colors you need. I would be happy too.

I am with Mary all the way on this.............I have attempted this pattern five times with NO outcome to send to you- if you would like the pattern returned I can do that........this is toooo frustrating to continue with....I did not know the pattern was a difficult one.

Deb1005 07-16-2011 02:56 AM

I requested your pattern - but I knew I not be able to complete and send you a square in a reasonable amount of time. So I never got the pattern. I would still like to have it - but such is life.

laalaaquilter 07-16-2011 03:06 AM

I guess because I'm a beginner and this was my first paper-piecing I expected it to be difficult so wasn't surprised when I made mistakes (I have the worst time sewing 'backwards' and then flipping the fabric and have it actually cover the section of template it is for ;-) ).

It did volcano but extreme pressing handled that. And no it wasn't perfect but I don't think Sherryl stipulated perfect.

OmaForFour 07-16-2011 03:27 AM

Please don't hesitate to try it. I was a first time PPer when I tried it and, although it was a little difficult at first, I got the hang of it and completed one. I am sure it is not the most perfect one that Candlequilter received but I sure learned a LOT and got it accomplished.

Sherryl
Is it possible for you post all blocks together for the bord to view as they come in. With the mail we never are quite sure if they make it.

Candlequilter, paper piecing is one technique I love to do so your pattern interested me greatly. So in good faith, I requested a copy of your pattern in exchange for sending you a block of your pattern. I have read everyone's posts since people started posting theirs shortly after we all received your pattern and have followed them up until your post today.

I have previously communicated with you as to why I couldn't attempt making the block to this point. However, I do not have a day or so to devote to trying this block.

I will delete your email (with the pattern attached) today so that I do not have it anymore. It is a beautiful block. Others' skills must be greater than mine, including yours.

twinkie 07-16-2011 03:46 AM

I requested a pattern but when Sherryl said I would have to make a block in exchange, I declined because I knew that I had a full plate going right now. Also my skills at quilting were not the best in the world. Hope everyone that received the pattern will be able to complete the block without too much trouble. I might suggest that if you continue to have trouble, PM Cheryl and she might have tips for you.

ka9sdn 07-16-2011 04:00 AM

Keep at it fellow quilters! I managed to get mine done and sent in and it was my first PP. It did take me a long time and I was frustrated but I got it done. If I could do it so can you. It was like when I was going thru chemo and rad.--I can do this and I did. My next one will be easier.

Marge L. 07-16-2011 04:05 AM

Were the blocks supposed to be star blocks? I assumed from you email that it could be any design. I made one yesterday, but if you want, I can make another. Let me know. Marge L.

Fabaddict 07-16-2011 04:32 AM

I would love to make a block for you. What do I need to do? I don't have the pattern, but from what I have seen, it sure looks interesting.

grannyp70 07-16-2011 04:47 AM

I am sorry that I haven't gotten my star block done, but still can't sit and sew any due to my back injury, but just as soon as I can sew again I will get mine done and sent off to you. So sorry for the delay. I have part of it done though.

tdvxh 07-16-2011 04:59 AM

Sherryl, I am having the Devil's own time trying to make the block. I do paper piecing, but can't quite figure out the angles of your star. I'll keep at it, but not sure I cang get it right. I'm so sorry.

Mamoo1 07-16-2011 05:28 AM

This has nothing to do with quilting I just saw your avatar of your Saint and love it I have two male Saints of my own they are brothers and their names are Mozart and Chopan.
Thanks Cathy from Calgary Canada

DogHouseMom 07-16-2011 05:34 AM

I'm outside looking in here as I did'nt request the pattern. I didnt realize that when everyone was posting pic's of CQ blocks they were a swap. Very cool idea.

quiltingaz 07-16-2011 05:35 AM

I have my block ready to send. Forgot about it and found it buried in fabric yesterday. Will mail on Monday.

Mellina 07-16-2011 05:40 AM

I sent mine in over a week ago.

This is how I understood it also. I had never done any paper piecing so was releaved to read that in the e-mail. I was able to finish a decent block and send it to candlequilter. But if I had put it off in fear or just couldn't get it right I felt I could send her a block of my choice instead.

That is what she wrote in the email to me when she sent the block. If you can't complete the block for whatever reason, she will take a block of your choice!!!!

tinliz 07-16-2011 05:55 AM

No excuse. Thanks for the friendly reminder. Just hope I am able to do it. Have a full schedule the next week, so you probably will not receive the block until the last week of July. It is really a beautiful block. I am challenged to do it since I have read of the problems others have had.

verna2197 07-16-2011 06:20 AM

I too gave up on the block, after trying several times to make it. I followed your instructions and it just would not come out. I too would be willing to send the pattern back to you.

Baloonatic 07-16-2011 06:32 AM

I'm SO sorry, I have quite a sob story why my block isn't finished--a VERY ill dear friend; another in hospital with broken leg while getting a new knee; SIL's parents in terrible head-on accident, her Mom is gone and Dad barely hanging on; our business has been given notice to move after 32 years and we're still scrambling to find a new location we can afford. But as it won't get the block done any faster I'll just hope that you'll accept my abject apologies
