Uses for my Christmas Fabric stash

I need some ideas to help use up my stash of Christmas fabric. I thought I saw a Thread about it earlier but now I can't find it. I know I will make some of the fabric boxes! I can't believe the amount of Christmas fabric that I discovered today while working in my sewing room. Any quick to cut and sew quilt patterns? Thanks!

All kinds of fun things you can make - place mats, table runners, wall hangings, totes, vests, Christmas stockings, gift bags, boxes, bowls . . .

deedum 10-09-2013 07:28 PM

how about some Christmas/holiday lap quilts?

lynnie 10-09-2013 07:28 PM

I love the placemat, tablerunner napkin idea. you can always make a rag quilt, they're quick and easy and nice

Tartan 10-09-2013 07:35 PM

How about a Log Cabin Diamond tree skirt or patchwork Christmas stockings or a mantle scarf? If you have green and red you can do the Poinsettia tablerunner from my QB tutorial Faux Flowers. The fabric boxes will look cute in Christmas fabrics.

Quiltaddict 10-09-2013 08:02 PM

How about gift bags, save paper and go green. Reusable.

Sewfine 10-09-2013 08:07 PM

I had the same question. I have to 13 gal trash bag full of Christmas fabric. I've made pillow cases, table runner and wall quilts. But don't look it put a dent in my collection.

These all sound like excellent ideas!!!!

A few years back Eleanor Burns published a book called "Christmas at Bearpaw Ranch", I purchased it and it has 28 ideas to use your Christmas scraps. I love it.

AngeliaNR 10-10-2013 04:16 AM

I'm looking forward to the day I have a Christmas stash! :)

It sounds like I need that book, too. I purchased a lot of quilting fabric at an auction a couple of weeks ago and when I separated the Christmas fabric and measured it, I have 40 yards total. That's a lot of Christmas fabric for me.

A couple of years ago I made aprons for my Christmas cookie baking friends and used up quite a bit of fabric. I think I had 1/2 yd cuts, not enough for a quilt, but just enough for some cute aprons. That's me on the right.

How about a Christmas Scrap Quilt for your bed. won't use all your scraps probably, but would use up alot. I made one when my children were still at home, and the only time it came out, was from thanksgiving to News Years Day. It became part of our Christmas Tradition, they loved curling up with it to watch all their christmas shows. I still have that quilt, very worn from all the love, but still gets displayed during the Holidays!

Inez Ruth 10-10-2013 06:34 AM

How about stockings for kids in your local children's hospital?

RedGarnet222 10-10-2013 07:42 AM

Or bibs or walker bags for the local senior home.

I like the idea of a tree skirt. Maybe as gifts too? That would take quite a bit to make.

Knitette 10-10-2013 07:57 AM

This Christmas Tree napkin pattern would use up quite a lot and make a great gift

charsuewilson 10-10-2013 12:31 PM

The first response pretty well said it all. The round napkins that can be folded into a Christmas tree are really cute. But you can also just make square napkins that can be folded normally.

The 10 minute table runner and the one that starts with a square of focus fabric and has french braids added are easy to make.

How about runners or ornaments?

sewingsuz 10-10-2013 03:23 PM

I make some simple aprons from christmas fabric and also adult bibs, also known as protectors for your clothes.

I plan on making some D9P throws for my local hospital. Also some smaller quilts for the Pediatric dept. My fastest quilt is made with 25 8 1/2 in. squares creating a 40 inch throw just right for wheel chairs and hospital beds !

For those smaller pieces I love to do hot pads and especially those little handle only ones for my cast iron pans. Can never have enough of those and everybody asks for those. I think this year I might make some little square ones with a loop right in the center for using on lids only. Have fun sounds like you have lots of ideas.

I made two twin size quilts for my grandaughter one for her room one to watch tv in th living room

I have the same problem. Last year I made something that didn't use up a lot of fabric, but was very pretty. I had a group of loosely-woven, metallic Christmas plaids from KQ that were stunning but probably wouldn't hold up in a quilt. I made padded stars to hang from ribbons from my fireplace mantel. Not hard to do and made a great "lap project" for evenings. I just found a star pattern I liked, enlarged it with a ruler and pencil, cut out of cardboard, put batting on both sides, laid fabric over, and stitched around the edges with a backstitch and embroidery floss. After a while, I started using fusible fleece instead of gluing the batting to the cardboard.

Hugs,
Charlotte

I used to say this about having a stash...now I have a stash and bags of scraps that I can't bear to part with, wondering what I should do with them...perhaps a stamp quilt or something. I just hate waste!

These aprons are lovely and a great idea!!! I have all the grandkids over for a cookie/candy making day and these would be a perfect way to use up some of my Christmas fabric stash. Guess what I am doing today!!!!

I love all these ideas because I, too, have a holiday stash. When CHRISTmas fabric went on sale after CHRISTmas, I thought I was being smart by buying all I could, WRONG>

WOW! Lots of ideas! Now I just need to find all the time that I want!!!!
I can't wait to start cutting that fabric!

I made quilts with friends. We decided on a size to cut our fabric and got together and exchanged squares and had a sew in. It was so much fun. We had food and holiday music. One of those friends as since passed on but everytime I bring out that quilt I have the memories of that day.

This is how I used up quite a bit of my xmas stash

How about a pretty Christmas lap quilt to go over the back of the couch. It will give you a little color and spread a little Christmas cheer. I have a beautiful sampler Christmas quilt that I won at my Guild's annual quilt raffle more years ago than I care to count. I bring it out every year after Thanksgiving and every year I spot something that I hadn't notice before, whether it's the hockey player, snowmen or fireplace with stockings hung by the chimney. I still enjoy looking at the quilt and remembering some of the quilters and their blocks with a lot of Christmas cheer in the quilted snow flakes on the quilt.

Lap sized quilts, its that time of year. Placemats, mug rugs, hotmits, pot holders, doorknob décor, pillows, pillow cases, table runners, table toppers, wall hangings, etc.

tissue covers, mug rugs, scrappy small quilts, more tissue covers, silverware holder shaped like mitten for your holiday dinner setting, greeting cards,

A project I'm getting ready to start----I'm just randomly cutting bigger pieces of fabric and piecing together for pillow covers. Got the idea from a DOCKERS plaid pillow that I got at a yard sale.

Love your aprons!!! I miss the days when my daughter, my Mother and I made a mess of the kitchen baking cookies and candy together.

Con-Kerr Cancer pillow cases! http://www.conkerrcancer.org/

Check out Etsy too - tons of ideas :-)

I'm always suggesting to those who want a fast project to make the "the ten minute" runner. Make it with Christmas fabric and those who receive it will love it!
