Sales tax here is 13%. So a good quality fabric at my LQS could cost me as much as $19.00 - $20.00 a metre.

Living in Brooklyn New York, we have state tax and New York City tax. In total it's about 8.7%.
Very interesting topic. I've heard talk of VAT tax in USA, but as of yet, they haven't done it. |

Ontario Canada, just about everything has a HST of 13%. Even your trip to the barber!

Okay I just checked online and converted the 14.95 euro to usd and came up with $19.79 roughly... so that is alot per yard so next time someone complains about our prices I will mention how high it is overseas... thanks for reminding us how blessed we are...

tax here is 8.75 %

Maine is 5 pct.

It varies in Minnesota depending on what city you live in. Where I am it's 7.5%. What is strange though is that some fabrics are taxed and some are not. We do not have a clothing tax in MN. I work at Hancock Fabrics and it is just a little strange which fabrics come up being taxed when we ring them up. Customers have complained, but it really is beyond our control.
