Okay, I bought some fabric squares on ebay. Ask seller if she would combine shipping. She said yes, so much for the first and the rest would be another price. I thought she meant the second figure would be for all of the rest! I should have asked her to clarify, so I got $18.00 worth of fabric and I am paying $21.00 for shipping. Oh well...next time I will pay better attention!

uh-oh

cjomomma 07-11-2010 06:33 AM

All I got to say is that sucks.

Rainy Day 07-11-2010 06:34 AM

Sheesh - are they coming on the Queen Mary? That seems excessive, when it is costing $10 to ship from US to Australia! Is the post bag gold plated????

b.zang 07-11-2010 06:38 AM

Maybe they're coming from Canada. Postage in and out is expensive.

frogella 07-11-2010 06:41 AM

NO, They are shipping from New York. I got a really good price on the blocks, from bidding. Maybe she is trying to make up for the shortfall with shipping. I just know I won't be doing it again. It all would have fit in a $10.95 flat rate envelope! But I will say again it was my fault for not getting clarification. I always just think how much more fabric I could have gotten for the shipping!

Not fair, not fair ----Just like all of the informercials where they say.."but WAIT - get a second absolutely FREE.....just pay for additional shipping, and then you find out that your total shipping for something that ways as much as a cd is over $25!!

Kaye-Kaye 07-11-2010 06:53 AM

I would live a comment in her feedback that shipping seemed excessive.

dglvr 07-11-2010 06:58 AM

Ohhhhhhhh I'd be furious. I've noticed the shipping has gone up on alot of items. Thats where they make their money beings they don't have to pay that part to Ebay. I'd email her back and let her know that is insane. Maybe she'll change it.

Ditter43 07-11-2010 07:00 AM

Contact her asap.......there is an error there somewhere!!!

Candace 07-11-2010 07:05 AM

Yes, send her a message that you misunderstood. Also, when the package comes check what the actual cost of mailing is vs. what you're being charged. A few bucks for a "handling" and "packaging" fee is standard, but any more than that and I'd make sure she knew I was displeased.

littlehud 07-11-2010 07:12 AM

So right. Check the postage when it arrives and if there is a big difference contact her and let her know you are unhappy. If she doesn't work with you leave here bad feedback. I don't mind paying shipping and a little bit more for their time, but don't try to overcharge me.

sharon b 07-11-2010 07:52 AM

 OH MY... Please contact the seller and see why she thinks it will cost so much and if she is willing to adjust ?

If she ( and I say she just because, not because I know who it is ) is not willing to work with you , then in your comments you can say shipping was HIGH and I believe there is another area in feedback that you can mark her down for the shipping cost.

Keep us posted

You need to contact the seller. Ebay no longer allows sellers to charge those ridiculous prices. I am a seller (not fabric) but I can tell you that's waaayyyyyyy too high!!!
I buy lots of fabric on ebay and have never paid even close to 21.00 and sometimes I've bought up to 15 yards!!!

You can't always see the postage price on the package. I use online shipping and it isn't on the labels.

Flat-rate envelopes are 4.95- flat-rate boxes are 10.40 or something like that.

mamaw 07-11-2010 08:03 AM

There is an option to ask the seller to adjust the total before you pay. I have never paid that much and buy many things on ebay.

Quilter7x 07-11-2010 08:05 AM

I hope the seller gives you some money back rather than pocketing it. Ouch!

amma 07-11-2010 08:06 AM

If you haven't already, please contact the seller and ask if there has been a mistake made in the shipping calculation... see if she will adjust the fee.

Moonpi 07-11-2010 10:09 AM

What was the shipping on item 2 alone? Lots of times, I've had to pass on deals because shipping was just too costly. Have you dealt with this seller before? Where you go to pay, there is a "Request invoice" box. Before you pay, use the comment box there to straighten out the shipping.

JJs 07-11-2010 10:16 AM

I just sent a whole quilt, return receipt requested, insured for $500 and it was less than $14!
The quilt was the commission quilt I posted about and was 72x72, mailed on Friday and received on Tuesday and that Included the Monday the Post Office was closed!

So, sounds suspicious to me...

BellaBoo 07-11-2010 10:31 AM

When you leave feedback there is a place to check if the shipping was outrageous. The seller doesn't see it. I would let the seller know you are reporting her for charging way too much for shipping. You can go to the forum and put her name out there as one to avoid. Those ebay forums are no holds barred on bad sellers.

978gray 07-11-2010 10:32 AM

Sounds like you got taken!!! I agreee, when leaving feedback let the people know.

sueisallaboutquilts 07-11-2010 11:17 AM

I just thought of something-
If you see ebay's invoice shipping is much higher as they don't calculate discounts. If you haven't paid already ask the seller for an invoice. That could be why it is so high.
If I ever get a buyer who pays before I have a chance to send an invoice I always refund the difference.

Twisted Quilter 07-11-2010 12:41 PM

This really ticks me off! I don't care if you already paid or not, contact the seller stating it could of been shipped in a flat rate box for $10.95 (?), and ask for an adjustment. The price of postage will not be on the package if the seller prints a label thru Ebay. You'll see the weight, but not costs. Also let them know that you're contacting Ebay regarding the high shipping fees. If he doesn't adjust, make sure to list your complaint in your feedback and give a low rating on shipping.

If he's a top seller, he really won't care because he sells a lot of items and it probably won't affect him much.

Bottom line...Ask for an adjustment!

AllyJo 07-11-2010 12:53 PM

The same thing happened to me with some stamps. I asked someone before I bid if she would combine shipping so I went ahead and bought all her stamps since the shipping would be affordable, thinking it would all fit in a flat rate box.

we completely misunderstood each other and she tried to charge me a fortune in shipping all the stamps (Stampin Up). They hardly weighed anything. I politely and assertively raised a little stink and she worked with me, but wasn't happy about it.

Try to work with the seller before you pay. That "ain't" right.

4dogs 07-11-2010 12:53 PM

Just a suggestion here, but next time on ebay, go to the FREE SHIPPING listings.........I hate postage and avoid it at all cost!

pab58 07-11-2010 12:54 PM

Ebay really frowns on sellers who charge excessive shipping costs. I'm so sorry you had to pay so much. :-(

CAROLJ 07-11-2010 01:08 PM

You can turn them in for gouging. I would email them and ask if they can ship it cheaper.

sueisallaboutquilts 07-11-2010 03:34 PM

Frogella, I just paid for 17 yards of fabric from a seller on ebay- less than 11 bucks for shipping !!!

frogella 07-11-2010 03:44 PM

I contacted her, but we will see what happens. I told her what I thought in nice terms, hopefully she will see my side.
Thanks for all of the comments. I usually send things, and I haven't paid shipping to get something in a long time, so it is nice to know it isn't all me!

happy sewer 07-11-2010 05:58 PM

Tell her if she is not reasonable, she has a lot more to loose in the long run than you do.

smagruder 07-12-2010 02:59 AM

I agree with Kaye Kaye~!

mawmawbeve_60 07-12-2010 03:04 AM

eeekkkk..is all I have to say!

raptureready 07-12-2010 05:24 AM

Report her. That's not what they're supposed to do so give her a bad review. I had (operative word: HAD) a friend that used to sell on ebay and he said that the shipping charges were where he made most of his money.

mlaceruby 07-12-2010 05:37 AM

Not to justifly the cost( I also think it is excesive)
but not all fabric is the same
in the last week I have shipped flannel, kona cotton, and batiks
In a large flat rate box I can get over 30 yds of batiks, only 20 if kona and only 10 of the flannel
I don't make money on the shipping and yes it is expensive!
and also the ebay listing with Free shipping usually have the high shipping charges built into the cost of the item
this is how they are getting around the ebay rules!

EagarBeez 07-12-2010 05:43 AM

I agree with the others. That is excessive. Your probably right, she sold the fabric cheaper and made up in shipping. Quite a few on ebay do that, and ebay discourages it, and they welcome complaints and will give these folks notices. I would check the actual cost to mail, then contact the buyer and give her a chance to make good, if she does not, I would give a negative feedback and report to ebay

deedles215 07-12-2010 05:53 AM

Let us know what she says. I think I would go to the seller before you start giving negative feedback. $21 seems excessive- can she prove the charges somehow? IF she doesn't resolve it, then I would go from there.

Good luck, so sorry you got 'had!' :(

I agree about posting that comment on her feedback. Maybe with a negative post, she'll reimburse you.
