I found this at a yard sale today. I paid $50.00 for it. The cabinet needs some work but my DH can restore this. The machine does work.

Congratulation on your find.

I have her twin, though mine is year younger. Yours has the Centennial Badge, so it's a 1951. Mine is a '52. I really like the contours of our 'girls'. They are so cute.

gsbuffalo 06-06-2011 02:23 AM

I have one like it and it sews like a champ..great buy

verna2197 06-06-2011 03:35 AM

Oh yes I must name her! Didn't even think about that either. I think I will name her SusieQ! That is what my DF & DB use to call me. DF has gone on to heaven but DB still calls me that on account of my middle name. So she is going to be SusieQ

Nancy Ingham 06-06-2011 04:43 AM

Great deal...enjoy her in good health! Congratulations.

Congrats! What a great find and what a great deal you got on her! I just ran across one myself and got my first vintage..its a 128 too. I was told that you can buy a 1/4" foot (get the low shank) and then you can have fun piecing with it. What a cute girl you have there...I can't believe how great the box looks too!

CarrieAnne 06-06-2011 05:44 AM

cute machine!

kwilter 06-06-2011 05:46 AM

lorimax5859 06-06-2011 06:51 AM

Great find!

KLO 06-06-2011 06:53 AM

A couple of weeks back I bought a similar one at a yard sale. Several people mentioned that it was a Blackside. Mine is a 128 but I wonder what the difference is between a 128 and a 128-23? According to the serial number mine was made in 1951 but it does not have the centennial seal. I did not get a manual with mine and the box lid is missing the lock mechanism but otherwise in good shape. Have not tried to just the shuttle bobbin yet but will eventually. Enjoy your new machine.

crazyforquilting 06-06-2011 06:56 AM

I have like her. I got her for free. She needs a tune-up and a belt and a lot of love. Can't wait to get her going. Enjoy!

twinkie 06-06-2011 06:58 AM

I love the model 128. The bentwood cabinet is my favorite Singer portable cabinet. The machine has a gorilla finish. I think it is so elegant looking. It will clean up very nice. Congrats

Sandra-P 06-06-2011 07:30 AM

Lucky you!

I have Singer in a round wooden cover that my father in law got when he wanted to learn to sew, (makes me smile to remember that!) Only thing is, I don't have the key to open it and see the machine! Any Ideas??
I got excited seeing your post, Verna! Thanks!

I recently got a treadle sewing machine that didn't have a key. It came with a small screwdriver that I took and put into the key slot and very gently turned it. It will unlock or lock the drawers. Maybe you could try this with a small screwdriver. It seems that those old locks could be picked pretty easily. :XD:

I got it open!!!! It's a 128-23 like Verna's but not a centennial. It's got an all gold seal. How do you find out the year? The serial # is AH 616099. I'll try to figure out how to take a pic...
