I finished the mitered piano key border. It is 44" X 54", may put a black border around it to make it just a little bigger.

This is my Pat Sloan BOM block and 12 card trick blocks I did yesterday. Today I'm working on Quilt of Valor presentation pillowcases. I'm not working too hard today and keep getting distracted by the 50 degrees temp.

MFord 01-17-2015 10:45 AM

So many beautiful projects! I've got my hand in a cast (see previous post for lovely picture) so I'm using my down time to try to learn EQ7, read lots of blogs, straighten up my sewing room, and spend far too much time on QB! Or is that even possible??

tropit 01-17-2015 11:08 AM

Heather, what's a "card trick" block?

Hi Quilters
I am finishing up the binding on a baby quilt for a firend - warm wishes in pink white and brown. Hope it will be washed and dried by late this afternoon - then onto hq another baby quilt for my daughter's friend - I have a good 6 weeks to finish that. Quilting pattern is still ??? - but I expect to start it later today or tomorrow.

Hi, VQW is an intriguing idea. What is a UFO?

owlvamp 01-17-2015 11:24 AM

grann that top is beautiful !!! I love the colors. I need a king size quilt for my bed.

Raggiemom 01-17-2015 12:13 PM

A UFO is an unfinished object. Anything you've started, set aside and haven't finished. There are actually people who don't HAVE any UFOs. I am not one of them :)

Cindy, the card trick blocks are the red, white and black ones. They're just squares and rectangles. Pretty easy to make. PM me if you want the pattern. It's a Word file and I could try to send it to you.

I finished this Union Jack Block with the free pattern from Craftsy. It's a great pattern and it came out real nice. I usually have a problem when I have to put the two halves together but this one worked great. I'm going to sandwich it, quilt it and hang it in the bedroom. It finishes at 18" x 12".

Love what everyone is doing. The sewing machine is cute as can be. I piece on an old Singer from 1920 that was found by the side of the road, and lovingly given to me. I named her Jeffina after friend's DH who patiently turned around and went back to pick it up. Now off to find backing for the top.

grannof6, I love your quilt top, did you post someplace already what pattern you used?

A separate question.... I had posted already to this thread... but when I look in my profile it doesn't show up. So I went to the search on the forum and typed in Virtual but it didn't bring up this thread either? Finally went to Archives and found the posting there, but is this normal?

SuzyM 01-17-2015 12:56 PM

Still working on my paper pieced pineapple quilt. I finished the 50 black background blocks and I am going to start my 50 white back ground blocks. I am having a lot of fun with this quilt.

IrishgalfromNJ, I love that...it looks so, "British Isles." Very sweet! Nice job on joining all those points.

Thimblebug6000, that's amazing! I'd put that on my bed any day.

Grann, the colors are so beautiful in your quilt. The black really sets it off!

Well, I'm breaking for lunch. I got a lot done this morning. I think I'll be able to finish the quilt top by tomorrow...fingers crossed.

Peace and Love,
Cindy

Well I was sidetracked by a shopping trip with a friend this afternoon. I have cut out 60 3 1/2 " squares and 20 4 1/2" squares and worked out how many pieces I need to cut in total, also starched and ironed fabric. I am making these quilts as memory quilts so the fabric is well used and needs to be well starched. So not done as much as I had hoped but have at least made a start. I will get up early tomorrow and cut out the remaining 290 pieces. It's almost 10pm here so I think I will head for bed.

Love the Union Flag. That's on my to do list to make into a cushion.

PenniF 01-17-2015 02:30 PM

I am SOOOOO for this...and already behind..... have to get several things done because i have the DGDs over on Monday (off school) and won't be able to sew.....I keep saying it on different posts ...mostly i think cuz i'm kinda nervous....but having hand surgery on Weds so MUST MUST get these few things done - cuz it will be a while before i can do anything constructive.
LOVE the purple hexies !!!!! Have to go back and start from the beginning to see what else is in the works here.

grann of 6 01-17-2015 02:46 PM

Thimblebug, the binding tool star is last week's Jenny Doan tute. I wanted to make it rectangular, since I don't know any square people. LOL This was the only way I could come up with, without making it labor intensive. I am in the process of adding a 3" border of black to make it bigger. I found a bolt of batik in my stash for the backing. That will be tomorrow's project.

quiltingshorttimer 01-17-2015 02:58 PM

Taught beginner quilt class this morning--now my knee is so sore that I'm icing. But tomorrow I plan to finish the piecing of a quilt in progress, get another on the long arm and start quilting it Monday--assuming my new knee plays nice (it will be 9 weeks since replacement on Monday).

quiltingbuddy 01-17-2015 03:23 PM

I hope it's not too late to join in. I'm just starting to work on a JRR2 quilt that has been on hold since Thanksgiving when I had to rearrange my sewing room for guests and more guests at Christmas. I'm having to piece the batting together and then to get on with the pin basting etc. I don't work on Mon so maybe I can get this one finished during the VQW. Fingers crossed here :)

I will also be working on my EPP project this evening and a little on DS's quilt that is really more of a chore because he wants it "fixed" where he somehow put holes in a few blocks and I'm replacing them by hand (think appliqué here). This one is not so fun but I promised I would so I trudge along with it.

tropit 01-17-2015 04:26 PM

OK...time to quit for today. I just made a big mistake many times over and tomorrow I'll have to rip things out...grrrr. But, besides that, the quilting day went well and I got a lot done. Have fun this evening ladies and thanks for the comradery.

~ C

I'm sort of glad that I'm late seeing this thread. I've been sick for over a week now, and am only just now feeling well enough to "pet my stash". The combination of flu with bronchitis has really laid me low.
Congrats to everyone who managed to get something done this weekend, no matter how small!
You know you're really sick when even quilting seems "too hard". :(

Had a fun day working with the ladies at Quilts for Kids. Finished binding 3 children's quilts while I was there, but I only remembered to take pictures of 2 of them.

Penny, I would love to see your project, the colors sound great and I have always wanted to do an irsh chain.

Going from XP to 8 has been a challenge, I'll see if I can figure out how to import pictures from the SD card. So far I'm still starching and cutting. I picked up three more shirts at the thrift store because it needed more colors.

Boston1954 01-17-2015 07:30 PM

As a matter of fact, I have started a Christmas present. Just started cutting today. It is a tumbler pattern with the main fabric having butterflies in it.

kristijoy 01-17-2015 08:25 PM

Wow. I think they did their job!

kristijoy 01-17-2015 08:26 PM

Finished attaching one quilt together. Working on the second. I'm hoping tomorrow I can get the binding on too!!! Then I can take some pictures!

Aszule 01-17-2015 08:34 PM

Working on my first quilt ever. A one block wonder. :) I have sewed 34 hexagons so far. Very fun project!
