Tropit - I love your pattern, it looks fun and interesting.

SuzyM - I applaud you for so many paper pieced pineapple blocks and ambition... I don't think I would have the patience.

Last night, I cut fabric for a quick Warm Wishes baby quilt that I will work on today. They go quick. I'll try to post a picture later this afternoon. Snowy - wintry mix today so will stay in with my Janome.

Happy quilting on this virtual weekend.

Had to work on Friday and Saturday so am now able to get going today and Monday! Thought I was going to have to do a demo/lecture for a guild but that is now off the books for a while. I have MAJOR prep work to do for McKenna Ryan patterns - several of them all in various stages. Thanks for the 'heads up' for the next retreat, so I can get it on my calendar!

IrishNY 01-18-2015 06:53 AM

I did a lot of sewing on my baby quilt yesterday and should be done this morning. I'll post a picture when I'm finished. Then I'm tackling a WIP that has been sitting on my design board since October while I worked on some other things like Bonnie Hunter's MQ, a holiday mantle scarf and of course, the aforementioned baby quilt. VQW was just the push I needed. :)

MFORD: That cast looks just like the one I had when I had thumb surgery for a very arthritic thumb joint. It does prevent you from quilting for a few weeks but in the long run it will pay off. Now I'm able to quilt and do my hand embroidery. Wishing you a fast recovery.

The binding tool star quilt is ready for Bob (my longarm). He resides in my living room, and is a wonderful companion.

Raggiemom: Olive, my cat, had pancreatitis and now won't eat. She has a feeding tube, so I have to feed her several times a day. She seems to be improving, but her care takes a lot of time.

I finished my mystery clue yesterday and got a bit done on the challenge quilt--I'm back to that today.

SO glad you went for it with the OBW....did you get the galaxy fabric you were looking at?? Don't forget to show us some pictures !!

gramquilter2 01-18-2015 11:27 AM

I did not join in but loved looking and hearing about everyone's finished projects.

tropit 01-18-2015 11:32 AM

I'm almost done!!! (With the top, that is.) Should I make it 5' x 6', or 6' x 6'? If I go 6', then I have to make one more row, but that's OK. I've never made a square quilt before. There's a time for everything.

I'm so sorry about your kitty. My old pup has cancer and she's just been sleeping all day. I'm quilting to try to keep my mind off her illness.

Okay, I finished sewing the binding on a lap sized Christmas quilt. Have a look. It is a cheater panel, but I think it looks festive for the holidays. This is the second one I have made, and I have one more to do. I put red fleece on the back and did quilting around some of the squares in each block. My MIL loved the one I gave her for Christmas. It is soft and warm with the fleece backing.

Now I am on to sewing the sashing and cornerstone strips to put together my Easter BOM. I can't wait to finish all the BOM projects I have started. This is my 3rd year to work on finishing UFOs. I think I can get them all done this year if nothing interupts me.

I usually have a problem when I have to put the two halves together but this one worked great. I'm going to sandwich it, quilt it and hang it in the bedroom. It finishes at 18" x 12".

This is nice, Irishgal... I made a Union Jack quilt for my daughter, without pattern, several years ago. To get the vertical center stripe to line up properly, I found I had to mark both sides of the horizontal stripe, where to line them up. Worked fine, then. Let us see your pretty quilt when you get it done!

sewbizgirl 01-18-2015 11:58 AM

I am staying around the house this weekend, recovering from an awful wisdom tooth extraction on Friday. When you are 58 it's no picnic! Last night I got the bug to cut strips for a Bento Box quilt. I love those! So I have cut and cut and if I get anything together to show you, I will... Been mostly lying on the couch and knitting. :(

cannyquilter 01-18-2015 12:59 PM

Have finished cutting out squares for D9P and also cut out HST for the third quilt. Have done the 60 3 1/2 " squares am going to watch the very last episode ever of Foyles War and then I may cut out the 60 6 1/2 x 3 1/2 rectangles before bed. Have a free day tomorrow so will continue with VQW and get some sewing done. Have delayed Mystery Quilt until Thursday or Friday depending on how quickly I piece the three quilts.

Thanks Raggymom for organising the VQW it has got me back into quilting mode.

Raggiemom 01-18-2015 01:02 PM

I'm glad so many of you are getting things done! I'm not getting any quilting done today. I had church this morning then this afternoon and tonight is cleaning. We have a realtor coming tomorrow afternoon to advise us what home improvements would give increase the house value for when we want to sell in the future. And tomorrow morning, I get to take two highly stressed male cats to the vet for annual checkup. I'm not sure which of us will be more stressed and the vet's office is literally less than 5 minutes away! My last chore of the day is cleaning up the sewing room :) Does that count as quilting???

Thought you might like to see what I did today. It is my first attempt to make an 8 point star, I am feeling pretty good for the first attempt. Now I have to make the borders.

You girls have done a beautiful job with this pattern. The UNION JACK is now on my to-do list.

Beautiful, Quiltngolfer...You're 11 months ahead! :D

Everyone is getting lots accomplished. I got the kitchen cleaned while "Bob" was quilting the Binding Tool Star Quilt. It is now ready for me to trim and bind it tomorrow. I'm done for today. My youngest DS and his DGF are bringing me Sunday Dinner. They have been doing this since I had my surgery and will continue till I am done with radiation treatments. This girl (lady) is a real prize winner, and a wonderful cook, to boot.

Yeah! Virtual Quilting Bee! It's going to be a fun weekend. I'm going to be trying my hand at paper piecing a Union Jack block (free pattern from Craftsy), cutting my Civil War reproduction fabric into squares for my Civil War Buckshot Pin Cushion (I have emery sand on order to fill it)

I've made some pin cushion. Been using ground walnut shells to fill them. Would rather use emery. From where did you order it?

quilt addict 01-18-2015 04:04 PM

I enjoy seeing everyone's progress and beautiful quilts. I am piecing the top for BH MQ. Almost finished except for the corner stones. Also trying to clean up from that project and get to cutting for the Mystery Train #8.

Didn't go to work today but will have to tomorrow to get caught up. So hope to get to those tomorrow evening. I also forgot about the house work but did do some yard work yesterday.

BerninaGirl 01-18-2015 04:08 PM

I finished the baby quilt I was working on for a co-worker due in February. Took a very long walk this afternoon because it was so beautiful here in NC. I hope to get some work done tonight on a WIP that's half done on my design board while keeping an eye on the Colts - NE game.

Thanks, Raggiemom, for getting us going in the New Year. It was fun to see what others were accomplishing.

jmoore 01-18-2015 04:28 PM

I took photos of my project today but cannot find the cord to my camera to download. However, I did get the top of my Warm Wishes baby boy quilt done and sandwiched with backing today. I will quilt it on my DSM tomorrow. Jan in VA gave good advice a week or so ago so this will be my second chevron quilting rather than meander or regular SID.

QuiltingVagabond 01-18-2015 05:16 PM

I am late to this party as we are working on building a bathroom in our basement and I had to work at my real job today - but tomorrow I will be putting the blocks together on my Grand Illusion top. So glad to get a break to sew for a little bit!

julie 01-18-2015 05:22 PM

worked on a quilt top for my DGD, then re-arranged the furniture in my sewing room for more efficiency.

quiltingbuddy 01-18-2015 05:41 PM

So glad to have you all to inspire me! I'm loving this VQW thing :) I got the batting pieced to fit and now my layers are all pinned together. DH needs some attention after the game disappointed him so I'm going to switch gears and work on my EPP project for awhile where I can be in the same room with him, poor baby. Hopefully I can get quilting on the JRR quilt tomorrow, and get a picture on here for your viewing pleasure.

i just love the quilting in your sashing Sewbizgirl! That really adds a darling pop!

Doggramma 01-18-2015 08:21 PM

Well I didn't get anything quilty done. We ended up going out of town where I accumulated more fabric and a 15 degree ruler. It just happens sometimes.

sewbizgirl 01-18-2015 09:04 PM

Is the virtual quilting weekend continuing tomorrow (Monday)? Here everything will be closed for MLK day.

bee3 01-19-2015 04:09 AM

I confess, I didn't do anything with quilting or sewing. Still waiting for this rash to get better before I go near my fabric. Kind of afraid to iron after getting a painful rash from the ironing part. but, I did find my next project patterns, and fabric I love, just didn't buy it :) and I did clean, a little :)

Rebecca_S 01-19-2015 04:58 AM

I made my first real paper piecing blocks. I have 2 half-circle compasses made. While I like the effect, I'm not sure this is a technique I will use a lot in the future once I finish this quilt.

Wow, that's a really pretty quilt you made with Union Jack Blocks. I just made the one block to see if I could make and do the paper piecing. It was fun, but time consuming. Thanks for the tip on making the center strip to get the pieces even. That's smart.

SuzyM 01-19-2015 06:04 AM

I only got one and half blocks done, I just lost my mojo this weekend. I work in the accounting field and January is hell month because of year end work. I am down one person in my department which means that work transfers to me plus my own work so I am pretty wiped by the weekend. Here is to February it cannot come soon enough.

tropit 01-19-2015 07:25 AM

Good morning everyone...where's the coffee? I ended the quilting day yesterday with having finished all of my rows for my quilt top. I started sewing them together and of course, being tired at the end of the day, I made some mistakes. I seem to do that at every day's end. I should quit while I'm ahead. So, this AM I'm going to have to do some ripping and re-sewing. I should have the top done today and that's as far as I can go with it until my backing fabric comes in the mail. I think I'll spend the rest of the VQW organizing my sewing area. I've really enjoyed seeing all of the beautiful quilting projects that everyone has been working on.

This has been so much fun. I love these VQWs, spurs me on to finish things up. I have obligations for the rest of the day, so no more sewing for me. Have fun everyone, will check in later to see how everyone is doing.
