I love what everyone is doing! Great jobs guys!

zennia 02-14-2015 07:08 AM

i am staying in all week-end and joing you. I am working on my paper pieced rail fence. Hope to sew the rows together.

thimblebug6000 02-14-2015 07:31 AM

twinkie, you're doing a wonderful job with those scraps and the fusible grid!

Grannof6, your Summer Breeze quilt top is beautiful and just what we need to see at this time of year!

thimblebug6000 02-14-2015 07:31 AM

Skhf, what a darling quilt.... a very effective way to showcase a cute print.

grann of 6 02-14-2015 07:48 AM

Thanks, Thimblebug. That was my thought too when I was hunting through my stash for the next project. That jelly roll and matching fabric has been somewhat patiently waiting for just the right pattern. What with all the snow and cold the East has been experiencing, I figured that was the perfect project for a cheer up. Now to get laundry done so I can get to the sewing machine.

maryb119 02-14-2015 07:52 AM

This sounds like a great idea! It is so cold out that I plan to just sew this weekend. I am working on a scrappy quilt by Bonnie Hunter called "Patches and Pinwheels". I hope to get the blocks put together. I have it part way done and hope to finish it.

I finished my February bench pillow yesterday. Just in time! I plan on putting some squash soup in the crockpot and sewing squares for our local charity quilt group today. I also need to spend some time Winter Sowing (that's with an O) some seeds in milk jugs. Happy Valentines Day everyone!

Here's my bench pillow! By the way, I've been a stalker on this group for years and just joined a bit ago. I'm always so inspired by all of your work and learn so much from you. Thank you!

I finished my controlled scrappy quilt. I belong to a group which makes quilts for leukemia patients, that's where this one is going. I'm still working on the tote bags.

I have UFOs but this weekend or week I hope to make some fabric boxes and a drawstring bag.

I will be glad to finish these because the colors I was presented are mostly bland colors and the lady just wants a scrappy look. Here is what I have come up with so far.

On the second one I have rearranged the 9 patch blocks so there is a flow in the color scheme. I don't have a picture of the new arrangement yet.

The 3rd one is simply a scrappy of miscellaneous blocks with a heart shaped applique of one of the gowns in the center and I don't have a picture of it.

I don't think I will ever do one of these again for someone else unless it is a gift.

Twinkie, these tops are so special. Very vintage-y... You did a great job!

Back in November I started the Bonnie Hunter Mystery Quilt, but was only two steps in when I saw the reveal. Like many of you, I realized it wasn't something I wanted to continue with, but I had these blocks of green, white, and black already made. What to do with them? They reminded me of the Creeper character from the popular video game called Minecraft which my son likes a lot. So I decided to make one for charity.

This is the photo I took in January after a lot of frustration in piecing the face. At times I wanted to give up. But in mid-January a local tragedy occurred which kept me going. I'll discuss that later.

This quilt is now at the binding stage which I'm doing this weekend. I'll show pictures when I'm finished.

Thimblebug thank you so much. I am so disappointed that I wasn't able to do a watercolor as I like to but this is something extra I did

And put it in a nice picture frame. If she likes it I have
2 other ones I can do for the other daughters.

I you are bad, Cindy, then so are all the rest of us! We all suffer from the same affliction. :)

Zozee, I thought those green and white and black pieces looked familiar! Great idea to use the blocks you already had... I have finally gotten my Bonnie Hunter Grand Illusion top together, and it's so big I will have to learn to use my friend's long arm to quilt it. Here is mine, made as designed:

zozee 02-14-2015 10:58 AM

Sewbizgirl, yours looks really cool. So many of them do, and my hat's off to those of you who can deal with so.many.pieces! It taught me a lesson, though: I am no more apt to quilt a 1,000 piece quilt than I am to work a 1,000 piece puzzle! (Give or take a few hundred.) :) I was going loo-loo!

zozee 02-14-2015 11:02 AM

I actually couldn't use most of the blocks as-is for my Minecraft quilt because the black pieces ended up in the wrong place. But the combo inspired this and I was able to salvage a lot of green and white patches. And the backing? Almost as many pieces!

I finished my 2 tote bags. Picture below. Now I think I'll read a book.

I love seeing the projects you all are doing. What a talented group of people!

sewbizgirl 02-14-2015 11:19 AM

Thank you, Zozee... all in small bites! Having to wait a week between clues helped me get all the pieces done. Then after the 'reveal' all I had to do was put them together into the big blocks and sashings.

KenmoreGal2, your bags came out really nice.

Now I need to get sewing, so maybe can have more to show by the end of this long quilting weekend.

I have the center of the top finished. It just needs borders. Any Suggestions?

KenmoreGal2 02-14-2015 12:10 PM

That's very pretty Mary. I would think any solid would make an excellent border.

playswithcolor 02-14-2015 12:17 PM

I'm chugging away making X blocks for the Color/Design challenge. Twelve done so far today.

grann of 6 02-14-2015 12:24 PM

Thanks guys. This has been a very interesting journey, still have to finish the reconstruction phase of my "Dollies", but can't be any worse than what I have gone through so far.

I am ready for the final border, just deciding on how wide it will be. Hope I have enough backing fabric. It may end up with some star blocks for filler. Will post a pic later when all the borders are on.

zozee 02-14-2015 01:45 PM

Congratulations! Those are cute. Enjoy your reading now:) .

I really like that! I agree any solid would do, but royal blue is what I see in my mind's eye.

I agree that any solid especially a darker one would look great. Love this quilt!

Looks like great minds think alike!

Just got home from work, left as the next foot of snow started! Will be working at the machine for the next couple of days provided we don't lose power! Have to stitch one more skateboarder then move on to the next picture before prepping any more. Hope to get all of these stitched before I have to dig out and go back to work.

mjpEncinitas 02-14-2015 03:39 PM

I'm making lots of different types of colorful circles t o go on a wall hanging. Using it as a sampler quilt. Love the skate boarders.

Raggiemom 02-14-2015 03:49 PM

applique, love your colors and applique. Great job. I finished a small quilt today and almost have the pentagon bowl done from the English paper piecing class. I had to stop working on it as my fingers were cramping. After Wheel of Fortune is done I'll quilt the fifth quilt. I think I'm going to run to Joanns after church tomorrow and buy some fabric for backings. I like to keep a large variety on hand, never know what color I'm going to need. My husband ordered the Singer sewing machine amazon had on special today for me to use for travel. It will arrive Monday, can't wait to check it out. Keep up the great work and I'll check back in before church in the morning. :)

oldcatlady 02-14-2015 04:05 PM

I'm binding two lap quilts for my nephew and his wife. I have one done and working on the other while listening to the PHC on NPR. I'll post pics tomorrow after I wash them.

twinkie 02-14-2015 04:07 PM

Everyone's projects are sew special. You all are absolutely amazing.

thimblebug6000 02-14-2015 04:35 PM

applique.... great appliqué designs.... did you make the skateboarder designs yourself or are they clip art or a specific pattern? sorry so many questions but they just look so perfect!

I've managed to finish all my crayons, had a great walk this morning with my group.... have Valentine's dinner prepared for DD & DSIL.... and now just back from another walk with DH....so need to get back into sewing room for another hour before they arrive.... dinner at 7....but still have to clean away my cutting supplies from the kitchen counter before they come ... thank goodness for quilting because once I retired I have really loved the hours spent stitching!

maryb119 02-14-2015 05:26 PM

Wow! Looks like you have enough to keep you busy for a while, applique. I don't envy you the snow. We had it last year like that. Hang on...Spring is coming.

oklahomamom2 02-14-2015 05:28 PM

Recently I finished a quilt that I have been hand quilting but this week I have started a quilt with lady bugs for my cousins daughter whom I have never made a quilt for. I can't wait to see how it goes together.

baronreads 02-14-2015 05:44 PM

I'm working on my BHMQ. I have 3 of the 4 rows done. I'm excited to get it all put together. I'll post pics tomorrow. This is my first quilt top I've finished since I started back at it again. I can't wait to have it done. Unlike knitting, I just can't have more than one project going at a time. Nammie are you doing hand or machine appliqué blocks?

I'm doing hand applique. Started the blocks on November 6 and finished block 25 on February 6. I'm pleased with my progress! They are all the same design -- as pictured below. There are 5 different fabrics and you make 5 blocks from each fabric.
