Virtual quilting weekend 2/18-2/21/22

Welcome to VQW! What are your plans for the weekend? There are several quilt tops hanging over the upstairs railing. My goal is to start quilting and slowly work my way through the pile and have it completely done by the end of the month. I also have a quilt which needs to have the binding stitched down by hand by next Thursday.

Next months VQW will be March 18-20.

cjsews 02-17-2022 04:54 PM

I hope to join in working on a double wedding ring. It will only be lap sized. I have not sewn all week. Company is here but due to leave tomorrow.

sewingpup 02-17-2022 05:09 PM

will I ever get clue 7 finished? That is my goal for the weekend!

cherrybsixty 02-17-2022 06:21 PM

Thank you, Heather for another great weekend. My plans are to not be just a lurker. I got a couple of UFO's that I haven't touched in month, so I just might start on one of them.

Happy sewing everyone

Thanks Heather for hosting again.

I will be working on my red, white, and blue quilt top. The blocks are finished. My design wall is clear. 🙂. So the first step is to decide on the layout. Then I will pick up my good piecing machine from the LQS. I took it in because the needle seemed to be thumping when it went down and the top thread had resistance to it. 🤷‍♀️ Fortunately, it was only 2 days turnaround time. My leader/ender project will be tumbler blocks.

I look forward to everyone’s projects.

petthefabric 02-18-2022 12:43 AM

Going to make as many BOOM blocks as possible on Saturday. Plans for Sun, can't participate.

tallchick 02-18-2022 03:02 AM

Thanks for hosting again Heather! I need to put the border on Allitare, but I will probably not get it done. I am doing a deep clean and this weekend. I am looking forward to seeing what everyone is working on!

WMUTeach 02-18-2022 04:55 AM

I am back again. Thank you for this focused week-end of quilting.

Tasks at hand
1. Finish binding on the Harriett's Journey quilt.
2. Finish pieces of HST baby quilt, layer and quilt.
3. Wouldn't be wonderful to just finish the baby quilt altogether.

pbraun 02-18-2022 05:24 AM

I am focused on finishing the applique on an Imagine quilt by Nancy Halvorson. It was started as a BOM at my LQS in 2019 but in 2020 classes stopped. The teacher made up baggies with fabric for each month. Last week I cut out and ironed on all of the remaining shapes for 7 blocks. Now I need to finish machine applique for 6 1/2 blocks. Should be about 2 blocks each of these weekend virtual quilting days.

Julienm1 02-18-2022 05:48 AM

Only 2 goals for this VQW. Finish binding on one Project Linus quilt and see if I can get another quilt done by next Sat. Blocks are pieced just need to do the rest of the assembly.

Iceblossom 02-18-2022 06:00 AM

I did get my Bonnie Hunter Mystery top done, I need to take it's "portrait" at the hubby's work and maybe I can get that done this virtual weekend. Not any sewing/quilting planned -- but I do hope to start boxing up some fabric this weekend. Or at least, I'm transferring from the cardboard boxes I've been using and switching to the plastic I got.

Raggiemom 02-18-2022 06:15 AM

You're welcome everyone! :)

cjsews--how are you doing your DWR quilt? I've done a table runner using the Accuquilt cutter. I also have a foundation paper pieced pattern but haven't started that one yet.

cherrybsixty--lurking is fine! :)

retiredteacher09--wow that's a quick turnaround for your machine. It's taking a month or more here.

I have some computer work to do this morning then I'll be in my sewing room this afternoon. Will check in later.

Doggramma 02-18-2022 06:56 AM

I’m going to have a busy quilting weekend. I finished the Chocolatier (sp?) quilt top and need to finish the quilting. It’s due the end of next week for the humane society auction. As usual, I procrastinated until the last possible minute.

Karamarie 02-18-2022 07:08 AM

I have a box of a variety of 2 1/2 half strips that I am going to make a quilt for a fund raiser our church school is having. Many are WOF but lots of other various sizes so I am just sewing them randomly together - probably a twin size. I pulled quite a few out of the box but the box seems quite full yet!!!!

Julienm1 02-18-2022 08:14 AM

Just finished sewing the binding. Into the wash! YEAH!!!
Now sewing the next project. It's an easy Jacob's Ladder. Never made one before and think I found a new fav quilt.

rryder 02-18-2022 08:19 AM

Thanks for hosting, Heather!

I want to get my Feb. UFO bound today, then I will start quilting my Snail's Trail Al Fresco quilt.

Looking forward to seeing what everyone else is working on!

Rob

Happy sewing everyone

I’m traveling so I’m bringing my epp with me and then finish quilting a top on Sunday.

kristijoy 02-18-2022 10:21 AM

Yippy! I was hoping a quilting weekend was coming up!

kristijoy 02-18-2022 10:23 AM

My list:
  • I have one quilt to bind.
  • A kids quilt on the frame to finish quilting. This should go pretty quick.
  • Finish blocks and complete top of Teal & Orange scrap quilt.
  • Start on blocks for 'bunny' quilt.
Going to be a fun weekend!

Irishrose2 02-18-2022 11:56 AM

I have some closets to clean but I also have a wedding quilt to finish. If I have it done by March 4, my son can deliver it and I won't have to mail it.

Dedemac 02-18-2022 12:22 PM

Hi everyone!
It's a sewing day!! Started out kind of sunny but now it's gray, the wind is blowing hard temp is dropping and it snowed about a hour ago! I finished the 2 church tops that I had to sew the binding down on, now I need to drop them off and pick up the other two that are waiting for me. Only problem is I don't really want to go out but I must. I'll make it quick. Then back to sewing binding down. The other things I need to do this weekend is clean my sewing room and finish up 2 UFO's that have been around for way too long.

Happy sewing

cjsews 02-18-2022 01:33 PM

My company is gone. I have sewn some of the arcs to background. Not too may of those left. Raggiemom, I am using the CutRite template set that Donna Jordan used in a tutorial. It is going together nicely

Back home, didn't get blown off the road.:) The new quilts will need beige thread for the bobbin and I'm low on that color. So will pick some up tomorrow,

The first picture is what I dropped off.

An the second is my next project. I'm going to make a table topper and My question is should I sash it with gray or just nest them. I'll put a border of gray before I sandwich. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

But first I need to clean for a bit, trying to get things under control.

petthefabric 02-18-2022 04:03 PM

Dedemac.
Lots of dedication and kindness in those bags.
Blocks are beautiful. For a sampler quilt I like some quiet space between the blooks. Are you desiring a certain finished size?

Raggiemom 02-18-2022 04:10 PM

Irishrose2--hope you're able to finish the wedding quilt so you can save on postage.

cjsews--thanks for the info. I haven't heard of that so will have to check it out.

dedemac--I like to break up the blocks a little myself so I would do a narrow gray sashing.

I finished two child's quilts and a table runner today. Sandwiched a couple more to work on tomorrow. Sounds like it's been a productive day for many!

rryder 02-18-2022 04:11 PM

Dedemac- those blocks are looking great! Like petthefabric, I like the quiet space between the blocks.

Rob

Dedemac - I'm with everyone else. I think some sashing between the blocks would keep them distinct. Maybe a light gray?

Here's my binding! And the finished blocks for the teal and orange quilt. I make lots of lap sized quilts.

My goal today to finish pinning part 4 of BHMQ-21. Then get up early tomorrow and sew these and the other ones I’ve pinned earlier in the week. Then finish sewing part 3 on the same top. I plan to set up my UFO Raggedy Ann throw on the long arm Saturday and quilt it on Sunday. I’m still undecided on the backing, which is slowing me down on finishing the project. Then it’s back to BHMQ part 5 &6.
My last project to figure out where I’m at on my lock-in mystery which is a ufo from 2 years ago. I have to have this completed by end of March, which is doable. I really like this project. I also need to cut out fabric for this years lock-in mystery. The lock-in mystery is a social activity. We sign-up & go to a location & we are “locked-in.” (Really we aren’t lock-in). For 10-12 hours and try to complete as much as we can on the mystery steps. It’s really fun since we meet several quilters from previous years. Another fun part is seeing everyone’s version of the mystery block. And seeing the finished parade of quilts at the end of the session. I never get the mystery completed before I go home. The pattern is for baby to king size and we chose which size to complete. We can use our stash or buy fabric.

SusieQOH 02-18-2022 05:55 PM

Hi everyone! Heather, thanks for hosting.
Today I found a top I totally forgot I pieced last Spring! It was buried in a pile of non quilt related stuff! I ironed it and plan to layer it and perhaps start quilting this weekend. I promised myself I'm going to quilt every week so I don't forget how to do it! I have a habit of finishing a project and then not practicing and getting rusty when it's time for the next one!! :D

cherrybsixty 02-18-2022 06:43 PM

I truly understand SusieQOh, I fall into the same pattern of sewing. I plugged in my sewing machine today and made a few seams and I've been ripping out everything that I've sewn. Just out of practice. But I shall try again tomorrow

Enjoy

kristijoy 02-18-2022 06:55 PM

Happylab - the Lock-in Sounds fun! I'm hoping to be able to do something like that after my kid leaves home. It's going to be here sooner than I think I'm ready for!

retiredteacher09 02-18-2022 07:55 PM

I have part of my RWB sewn together. I picked up my machine and it sounds so much better.

Dedemac: The wind was certainly bad this afternoon. Nice finishes for your church group.

kristijoy: Pretty quilts.

I enjoy reading everyone’s posts.

Rff1010 02-19-2022 03:15 AM

I'm leaving on a jet plane tonight - but I might have time for a little FMQ on my Lone star if I'm focused about laundry and last minute things!

jmoore 02-19-2022 03:57 AM

Looks like everyone has quite a list of projects this weekend … thank you Heather.

I don’t think I’ll get much sewing done but will check in to see how all of you are making out. My coast guard son is away for 3 months on his ship so DIL is bringing the grandsons to us for a few days during school break( ages 4 and 7) and it gives her a nice break too. We are so looking forward to having them.

I am finishing up binding on a queen size quilt and need to get the label on but after that DH really needs me to focus on getting my taxes done on my real estate business.

Connie, I like your idea about a tumbler leader/ender project. Will you do them scrappy or do you have a color/pattern in mind?

WMUTeach 02-19-2022 04:57 AM

I kept my list short this weekend and Ta-Da the Harriet's Journey is finished right down to the label! Boy it felt grand to fold it up and say DONE! It will go with me to my quilt group meeting for Show and Tell on Monday then on the wall in my dining room. Picture will come later this weekend.

I dove into the scrappy HST baby quilt and found I need three more HSTs to make an additional row. Easy Peasy and better than having 7 orphan blocks! Then off to the local quilt shop for a back. Can't believe I don't have an appropriate back, but I don't. Will also be shopping or at least looking for the fabric for a commissioned quilt.

So many productive plans and some finishes with the group already. I always find it surprising how much can be accomplished when we just stop and do one thing for a concentrated amount of time, even it is only a couple of hours on a weekend. Keep those machines humming and fingers stitching. Love seeing the results.

Blueridgebeverly 02-19-2022 05:34 AM

I have so many unfinished projects ….. I’m focusing on that this weekend.

Nesie 02-19-2022 06:00 AM

Working on several UFOs. (I was inspired after listening to the American Patchwork and Quilting Podcast about UFOs that someone on the board mentioned.) Really wanted to get out today but we are having snow squalls and icing so a good day to catch up.

QuiltingVagabond 02-19-2022 06:10 AM

I've spent the last week reorganizing my sewing room. Found things I'd forgotten, well you know... Anyway, I have several tops I planned to sandwich today. See you later!

Hi everybody,
Trouble potential. I’m working on my Vintage Rose. It probably goes together as it should if I followed directions, but I’m like an old dog who doesn’t learn new tricks. I had to rip out those dark red pieces at the base of the petals. They weren’t laying flat. Had to hand sew them in. So I’m worried that the whole thing isn’t going to lay flat. So I’m going to sew the petals together. I don’t think you’re supposed to sew the whole thing together until you have all the sections done. But I’m too worried it won’t go together well and I would rather know now. It’s a 5 year old UFO that I’m trying to finish. I has been a lot of work. A real challenge for me. Ya, I know it’s pretty but I need to know if I need to change to plan B.
