2 tops complete. Backings chosen sewn and pressed. Need to cut batting. I've been obsessed with my projects all day and keep sneaking off to the sewing room...but since that's directly off the kitchen - it wasn't exactly far or very sneaky.

Reminder to shop that stash people. Quilt calculator said I needed 4 yards and I found 2x2 yds pieces that coordinate with each other and the top and the binding. Winner-winner chicken dinner.

oksewglad 11-26-2020 10:01 PM

Fun to see and hear what everyone is up to. I have a project going all the time and since snowy weather prevented me from working on Tuesday I had an extra free day! Spent dinner up the road with FarmerSon and family. Helped out with the meal prep by fixing food here. We ate too much. Family Zoom meeting on Sunday with the other 3 families.

Got 2 borders added to a 9P quilt my sister made for Project Linus. I was going to finish it for our local chapter, but since she passed this summer, I opted to finish if for my brother who had a house fire a month ago. Now to find a backing for it, too. I have a quilt on the LA that I am ripping some stitching on. Then get another quilt on for my brother. Meanwhile between fixing food and now after we came home I've been sewing Flying Geese blocks in a strippy quilt I started years ago. Five strips of 27 FG--have half of it sewn. Tomorrow take a break and work on BF at the LQS. Then weekend free to keep on sewing.

Enjoy tomorrow folks.

Woke up this morning, looked at the 11, 6 inch log cabin blocks...WHAT WAS I THINKING? Center block that I thought would be perfect is terrible. So now I will spend some quality time with my "redesign tool" commonly known as seam ripper.

While digging thru various containers, baggies of scraps noticed I really don't have a lot of light colors. No, I won't shop. Just do the best I can with what I have.

But first, coffee. My noise will wake up DH for him to take his thyroid pill.

Fabric has 2 sides. If you need it.....

Julienm1 11-27-2020 03:17 AM

LOL https://cdn.quiltingboard.com/images...es/biggrin.png I forgot about that trick. Center still is wrong no matter WHAT side of the fab I use. Have a "go to" pattern that sews up quickly.

Well this VQW snuck up on me in a major way, I wasn't expecting one, lol.

I actually do not have an active project going right now, I finished my niece's quilt top and now I'm just playing with my Dresden plate template while I wait for when I can order batting, backing and thread for my sister's DWR. I was hoping to get everything in December, but there was a huge jump in price for the batting I was going to use, which ended up being a good thing considering I would have ended up using the wrong batting for her, she wants a very low loft batting and I was going to go with something a little heavier. I have the thread in my shopping cart on Amazon, I'm also hoping to get her backing at the very least and wait for the batting to come down in price.

The Great Purge is still going on and the fiancé and I decided to use an unused bedroom for quilting, I've got a decent sized dining room table we'll be putting in along with all my quilt supplies for when it comes time to pin baste. I had to get us off of the floor after we did our nine-patch earlier this year, that just about killed us. So something about quilting is going to get done this weekend, just wish it was at my sewing machine working on a quilt. I'll be popping in and out to check in, hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving!

WMUTeach 11-27-2020 04:32 AM

Absolutely no quilting yesterday on Thanksgiving. I am shocked at myself. Not an intentional fast from my machine but it just happened. Now I have more to do today, tomorrow and Sunday. Reboot and recalculate and reorganize my "to do list". https://cdn.quiltingboard.com/images/smilies/smile.png

QuiltMom2 11-27-2020 04:37 AM

I surprised myself and made the binding and got it attached to my twin size quilt before going to daughter's for small socially-distanced Thanksgiving dinner. It was a beautiful day and watched granddaughters swinging and singing - the playset in their yard has gotten a lot of use. They were wearing capes which flapped nicely in the breeze!
Now I hand off the twin quilt to a friend who loves to hand stitch binding to the back God bless her!
I've also finished piecing the back of my smaller quilt so today will be sandwich day.
Keep on quilting everyone!

QuiltBaer 11-27-2020 05:45 AM

No sewing yesterday. I cooked an apple/cranberry dish to take to my son's. He cooked everything else. Ate way too much but had such a nice time talking and watching movies.
Today I am starting a WVU quilt for my secret sister at church. The ladies are getting together next Saturday to see who our sisters have been all year. I had to order some fabric for it and it came in this week.
Tomorrow I'm going down to the church to help get advent baskets together for shut ins. I made 30 zipper pouches to put in the baskets.
So I guess I better get off the computer and sew!

tropit 11-27-2020 06:30 AM

No sewing for me yesterday, but today, my calendar is open and the sewing machine is oiled up and ready to go.

Quiltingvagabond…So cute! I like the intricacy of the pattern. It has a lot of fun stuff going on.
Cheshirepat…I love the rich, moody, rainbow colors in your quilt.
Retiredteacher09…Interesting blocks. It looks a little like a crumb quilt. I like it!
Railroadersbrat…Very pretty! So Irish looking!

Raggiemom 11-27-2020 06:32 AM

Wow you have all been super busy! I didn't even go in my sewing room yesterday. Cooked quite a large meal for the two of us, leftovers for a couple days! Then we did a little Christmas decorating and chatted with a couple family members. Today will be more decorating and hopefully a little time in the sewing room to work on my November ufo.

juliasb--praying you both stay healthy. And prayers for your minister and his wife for their safe recovery.

Will check back in later :)

I got my string quilt top blocks all put together.
Now, to think about a border.

Still have my circle quilt to work on and there is always quilting to do.

Watson

Just noticed a mistake! Glad I saw it now and not once I got borders on!

rryder 11-27-2020 11:51 AM

Finished ripping out the quilting on the borders for the big butterfly. Decided to see if a good steam pressing would close up the holes- got lucky and it did, so now just need to troubleshoot my tension issue and re-quilt the borders. Yay!!!

Rob

QuiltingVagabond 11-27-2020 01:05 PM

Clue 1 is ready to sew, I will probably have them sewn and trimmed before the weekend is over.

zennia 11-27-2020 01:36 PM

I found a pattern and started cutting 60-degree angles. I have a long way to go but having fun on the way.

juliasb 11-27-2020 02:05 PM

I am getting off to a slower start than I had hoped to . I got up this morning feeling exhausted. I a couple pieces cut out for some Christmas stockings. I hope to get a while lot more accomplished tomorrow. Going back to bed so I can get up bright and early tomorrow and get busy.

Cheshirepat 11-27-2020 04:00 PM

Beautiful quilt, Watson!
Got all my blocks laid out last night. I've had a 'bad brain' day, and screwed up the order of my blocks then couldn't figure out how I had them even *with* pictures, and then I trimmed a set down too small .. and had to frog more things to fix it all. I'm mad at myself and taking a breather, sigh.

Love the Christmas quilt, Kathy...it's one holiday I don't have an overstock of fabric for for some reason?

Having fun today, just the hubby and me and the cats hanging around, and we're doing a super simple dinner at 6. So I've gotten a few squares sewn together with interruptions for video calls with family, lunch, playing w/cats. Nice day. I've got a small crisis - I've run out of design wall, lol! I'm going to have to get creative and take it around the corner I think?? :D

I love what you pictured.
The name humors me too.

Watson, your quilt is just gorgeous. Love it.

quiltingshorttimer 11-27-2020 05:21 PM

pretty quilts! I especially like the string quilt Watson. I did get to the LQS ( and picked up bird seed since it seems like all the birds in our county have found our feeders) and got what I needed. So I got the two smaller table toppers quilted and the two table toppers from panels are on the frame right now--should be finished about noon tomorrow and I'll post a picture. Then to do all machine faux flange bindings and put into the mailbox! That will leave just my BIL's wall hanging to stitch down the facing and attach a sleeve, and finish the fusible on the last quilt and quilt it. I think I'm going to make it! Told DIL that boys quilts would be after Christmas.

julia: Prayers still being sent.

Rff1010 11-27-2020 06:31 PM

So I'm trying to decide if this is the silliest reason ever to make a quilt....I have batting that is just too small for my normal finish quilt sizes (it's 45 x 60...ish and I tend to work in the 60" and above genre) it's offcut leftover. But I have a bunch of 12" scrap blocks. I could take 9 of those - end up with 36" square - throw a 2" border around the whole thing and root around the stash for backing. Prob end up w a nice little donation for Project Linus.

Thoughts? Am I insane?

I just started a jacqueline dejonge qult called Imagine. I was alone this year as my relatives all have jobs that put them at risk, first year in decades that I haven't had at least 20 people here..... so I cut and pieced all day...it wasn't that bad..talked to everone by phone. Stay away this year,we'll all be alive to celebrate for years to come...it WILL get better !

Panchita 11-28-2020 02:55 AM

Well, so far zero progress on the quilting front - too busy doing SAHM/Christmas/birthday things. But today is the day....

CheshirePat - that looks really striking! I love it https://cdn.quiltingboard.com/images...es/thumbup.png

RetiredTeacher - I love yours too - the colours sing https://cdn.quiltingboard.com/images/smilies/smile.png

Railroadersbrat - how exciting! A new quilting room - oooh the possibilities!

Rob - glad to hear you're winning the Battle of the Butterfly

Rff1010 - no you're not insane, we get inspiration from anywhere!! lol I say roll with it and enjoy https://cdn.quiltingboard.com/images...es/biggrin.png

Thimblebug - loving the rich colour choices! That's going to be a stunner

Happy Quilting Everyone! (I'm going to actually go and do some now, rather than pottering about...)

Julienm1 11-28-2020 03:53 AM

Watson, definitely a show stopper. I don't normally care about string quilts because they seem too busy but your design is perfect. Beautiful version of string quilting. Congratulations.!!!

I made most of the blocks yesterday for my quilt to be gifted. It took longer to fussy cut and straighten the fabric!
Hope to get the quilt put together when I get back from working at the church today.

I just popped in to look at pictures of ya'lls projects. keep them coming, I love seeing what everyone is working on!

This is what I am having fun with all my Christmas fabrics making

Panchita 11-28-2020 05:36 AM

OK, well posted a (badly lit) photo of my penguin to the thread here (2020 Penguins - Page 9 - Quiltingboard Forums) , and have done some work on my Moda project bag (the least important thing, but currently the most intriguing, lol)

With the project bag I have done my first ever machine quilting using a walking foot (went a lot better than expected, although definitely room for improvement), sewed vinyl for the first time (also gone surprisingly well), and sewn in my first ever zip (amazingly seems to have worked - now just need to not cut the zip part off when trimming....). So all bits of the bag are ready to be assembled.

QuiltBaer - I love your stars, that is a great block, and the colours work really well

Saturday Update

Didn't get much done yesterday or last night, Butters kept signalling I had a migraine coming, so I stayed close to her and the fiance and kept quiet as much as I could Still no migraine, but we do have rain and a cold front moving through tonight. We'll see.

I'm hoping once I get out of bed later to get some work done, we used that bedroom as a catch-all and there's still more cleaning and moving furniture around. I'll be happy when that room is done, it was the first one I wanted to tackle but was talked out of it

I wasn't able to sew on Thanksgiving or Friday, but I told my DH I will sew today! I'm just doing a bit more FMQ on the queen size quilt. Each block done is one block closer to finishing, as slow as it seems. And I have a little helper too! Isabelle (18 months) loves to sit beside me as I work. We have some very deep and meaningful conversations! :)

Raggiemom 11-28-2020 03:54 PM

I figured there might be a few of you working on Bonnie Hunter this weekend :). We have all the Christmas decorations up that we're doing this year. I did work on my ufo this afternoon and did the next couple steps. My goal is to assemble the dahlia part tomorrow then Monday I can applique it to background. Just in the nick of time!

Watson, glad you caught your mistake in time!

Railroadersbrat, hope you don't get the migraine.

mrs. fitz 11-28-2020 04:53 PM

A VQW isn't what I thought, I didn't realize there would be so much inter-action among members, so many pictures (love seeing them). I can't post pictures to this board but I'm putting aside almost everything to work on my projects so I consider myself a part of the weekend regardless. I've made good progress on a quilt for my oldest stepdaughter and I wanted to work on 5 simple charm pack runners for all 4 stepdaughters and one step-DIL. I was doing fine, 4 tops completed. The charms are in 3 vertical rows and on the final runner I've managed to lose the final row. I know I made it, I had the runner laid out on my work table. So I've lost a lot of time today searching my large apartment to see where I could have left it. A neighbor stopped by yesterday and lost her keys. Keys are small. She came back, we looked together, eventually the keys were found. A 5" x almost 50" row of bright fabrics isn't easy to lose. Help!!!!! Anyway, I'm enjoying quilting along with all of you.

Julienm1 11-28-2020 06:27 PM

I've made a lot of progress on this Project Linus scrappy quilt. Hopefully will get it fully pieced tomorrow and then have 2 tops done for PL! https://cdn.quiltingboard.com/images/smilies/smile.png

happylab 11-28-2020 07:03 PM

I enjoy reading all the great progress going on this week.

So far I quilted the 85’ by 85’ inch brown top. Tomorrow I just need to machine sew the binding on and it’s done. Tonight I will mark & pin a few BHMQ stripes and sew several of them tomorrow. My goal to complete the squares before Friday’s step. I also cut out 2 steps of the QB mystery QAL. And cut out 2 steps on another project.

oksewglad 11-28-2020 09:32 PM

This morning had to dash to pick up MrOK's new Rx, so took a side trip to LQS other side of the town. They were having a 25% sale on everything...found the perfect fabric to use as strips between the flying geese top I've been working on. Tonight have all the FG strips sewn now to cut the new fabric to put between the strips. This will be about 75 x 95 when finished.
