Vodka fabric sizing recipe

Cheap vodka is always suggested for this. This works because it is assumed vodka is made from potatoes which is a starch. However not all vodka is made from potatoes. I bought some made from grain. Do you think it makes a difference if made from grain vs potatoes?

Interesting experiment for your quilting lab! Let us know if it is stiff, sticky, or smelly. :)

This makes me giggle. My husband would have me committed if I started using vodka - even cheap vodka - as a fabric starch.

I don't know the answer ... though grains are a starch, so perhaps it makes no difference?

I guess I am one who likes to play it "safe" ... and I go only with only the commercial products, meant for fabric use.

Aparantly this is the ingredient in Mary Ellens Best Press which is sold by the tank full for ironing fabric

......... though what else is in Mary Ellen's?
Scent for some ... but are there other ingredients?

I am a Mary Ellen's convert ... so look forward to hearing your test results, Holice!

All the formulae I read show only vodka and water and scent if wanted. I assume someone had it analyzed. The amounts differ a bit. I may have to invest in potato vodka since QuilE tossed out the challenge

I have to chuckle envisioning you explaining to the the liquor store clerk why you need a bottle of potato vodka and a bottle of grain vodka ;-)

Apparently you'all got this wrong...the vodka is for drinking! LOL Kinda takes the edge off....

Seriously, let us know how the experiment goes.
