First day of VQW has been quite successful:
1) finish binding my "brights" quilt -- progress made - got about 2/3 of one side done 2) continue tidying up the fabric from my last three or four projects and get everything back where it belongs -- did a lot of this but my storage boxes seem to have shrunk while the fabric was scattered around. Need to come up with an interim plan for the overage! 3) come up with a labelling system (tied to #2) to help me remember how I want to organize things going forward :-) 4) sketch out some layout ideas for a scrap quilt I'm part way through - I've been working on sub units and now I think I have enough to go to the next step -- came up with a pattern for a block to add to my sub-units and made a prototype that worked the first time (highly unusual for me - woo hoo!) and have narrowed my final layout to two possible plans (for now) |
Was making great progress with my crazy blocks when not my bobbin but my top cone of thread ran out! I took that as a good place to stop yesterday. This will be only the second time I've replaced the top thread on my new machine, need to pull out the manual to make sure I thread it correctly and will also put in a new needle just because... Also use the opportunity to wind a couple of bobbins.
Enjoying thinking of the rest of you and all of us in our sewing spaces and our varied fabrics :) |
Ha! Iceblossom! I have my manuals next to my machines. I have to consult before doing anything besides stitching! I ran into something new in my cross stitch pattern for the Fancy Fish, which I am following for my pixel quilt. Two symbols in one square! My pixel squares are cut at 1.25" and finish at 3/4". So I just stitched the two together on the diagonal and trimmed the SA. Not sure how I would stitch that in a cross stitch project!
I may venture to the beach first today. The waves have been flat, but the news reported 3 foot waves, so I my have to go boogie boarding before digging in to sewing project. |
Good morning, Quilters! Working on the second of four Halloween skeleton quilts that I started last year for my grandkids. Being realistic, I am going to try to finish the second one this year and will try to finish the other two next year.
Wishing everyone a wonderful day! Get stuff done! |
Busy weekend! Finished my latest 4 patch tumbler and took pictures for The QuiltingBoard. Also came across something I started a couple years ago, the Crazy Quilt from Missouri Star Quilt Co, with some blocks complete, and plenty of fabric left over to continue making blocks. Will work on some more of those on Sunday. Not sure if I have a backing for this one, but since it's a crazys quilt almost anything will work....hopefully.

Got all the fabric ironed for cutting so cut all the squares out for the background and on the design board. As I was taking a row at a time to sew, several fell off the board. Didn't get them back in the order they were but close. Everytime that happens I think I'm going to pin them next time but never do. Think I'd learn by now. Had ordered the Steam a seam lite 2 and realized I needed one more package so order it got, got here yesterday. ' I started tracing the petals and decided to put some on the fabric and the extra package of Steam a seam must have been old because it wouldn't stick to the fabric. Made a made dash to Hobby Lobby and got another. Other than that, making progress.

Well, I've finished today's blocks for the daily October blocks and have started prepping for the retreat happening next weekend. With scraps pulled out of everywhere, my quilt room in currently in a state of chaos but I'm having fun. The trouble with this, is while planning one project I see plenty of other possibilities. Sigh.

I am not getting as much accomplished as I hoped. But, I got all fabrics cut and 14 blocks sewn. You know how it goes at guild meetings. Too much talking 😁

It's a slow stitching day for me. I'm having tension problems with Ellie, my Elna 500, and nothing that I'm doing is working so I'll work on her tomorrow. Maybe I can finish binding my Easy Breezy quilt and progress with my EPP project.

I got the donation quilt done. The top was made by a fellow guild member and had a few 'issues'. My biggest frustration is the time it takes to prep someone else's top. No matter how many times it is mentioned, none of the ladies seem to think it is important to stitch 1/8th inch from the edge all around the top. That line of stitching keeps all the seams on the edge of the top from unraveling and longarmers from saying very bad words!!! This one also needed a severe pressing and still seemed to balloon in the middle. Thank goodness for lofty batting and a spoon foot on the longarm! I am not an experienced longarmer so each top is a challenge.
I also got the backing for another quilt prepped and loaded. Hope to do that one tomorrow afternoon. |
