We have 3 wal-marts within driving distance from our town. Two of which have done or are doing away with their fabric department. Yesterday, my MIL and I went to Wabash to Wally world (as we call it :] ! ) They had a huge clearance of their year end fabrics, the good ones not the normally cheap anyway's. Not only did I boost my stash, I also found out that they get to keep their fabric department!

Nice haul! Is the Kokomo Walmart getting rid of fabric?? The one near me (Logansport) hasn't had fabric since they switched it to a supercenter.

Craftybear and Qbee and I went shopping at that same Walmart.

julie777 02-12-2011 11:08 AM

our walmart said they are keeping their fabric department alot of people buy it

babyfireo4 02-12-2011 11:18 AM

Wabash still has lots for sale, we didn't come close to cleaning them out! I'm not sure about Kokomo but, I would think so, since they had that huge Joann's store open right next door, and they have an amazing clearance section to! If in doubt I'm sure you could just call and ask. They have always been really nice about answering questions so you don't waste a drive.

CarrieAnne 02-12-2011 11:21 AM

pretty fabric!

gale 02-12-2011 11:23 AM

That Joann's isn't all that huge IMO. It is huge compared to the Logansport store (what isn't??) but after having been to the ETC store in Castleton they all look small now in comparison. lol. But at least the Kokomo J's is in a more convenient place now and better than when it was on the other side of town.

Craftybear was just talking about the Kokomo store having fabric in chat last night. Other than Wabash and Logansport, what is the other store you go to?

babyfireo4 02-12-2011 11:31 AM

I mostly go to Joann's in Logan, but if I'm headed to Kokomo anyway I'll go to their joann's. Yesterday was the first time I've actually bought material from Wal-mart, but I've only been quilting for 6 mths or so :) Yes, Kokomo's Joann's is huge compared to Logan's. What's the ETC store? Where else do you go?

littlehud 02-12-2011 11:42 AM

Those are beautiful fabrics. Looks like a great haul to me. I wish our Walmart would bring back their fabrics.

gale 02-12-2011 11:44 AM

The ETC is Joann's ETC. Like a supercenter but for fabric. They had about 3 cutting tables, a big area for classes, and way more fabric than regular Joann's does! And I mostly buy Kona Cotton solids at Joann's and they had a bunch more colors than the Logansport store has. They also had a lot of jelly rolls, precut packs, etc. and kits.

There is a quilt store in Winamac too but they don't have a lot of prints that I like (I'm mostly into bright colors). I read about a shop in Rochester but I've never looked into it. I haven't been to the one in Kokomo yet but I have been to Rossville (great shop) and the other ones in Wabash, plus North Manchester and two in Lafayette.

You'll have to go to the one stop quilt shop hop at the events center in Kokomo this summer. The info is here:

I looks like you have a very nice addition to your stash now.
I keep holding my breath that one of the Wally Worlds in our area gets to keep fabric. Our closest store is a smaller walmart and doesn't carry fabric.

babyfireo4 02-12-2011 12:10 PM

Wow, thanks Gale! I've never heard of that before. I'm def. going. Just have to break it to my hubby why I'll be hoarding money til july!

lovingmama 02-12-2011 02:42 PM

Wonderful!

susie-susie-susie 02-12-2011 03:50 PM

Nice addition to your stash. It's funny how some WM have fabric and some got rid of it. Our local WM just added tons of fabric to their department.

our walmart no longer carries fabric. I must have signed a million petitions but it didnt do any good. I used to get material for 1$ a yard. I miss it so much~

Hi everyone I am from Delphi near Lafayette. Another great shop in our area is called Quilters Harvest . It is in a old church building as you are heading out of Lafayette towards Attica .The people that work there are very nice and great fabric selection.

That's where I bought my featherweight.

Is the Hobby Lobby in Kokomo still open and sell fabric??? They usually have a really nice quality of fabric!

Jingle 02-12-2011 07:11 PM

I have lots of fabrics, just wish I could buy large spools of thread there.

Yes-they still sell fabric there. Or at least they did the last time we were there.

babyfireo4 02-12-2011 07:40 PM

I think so to. I never even thought of hobby lobby! I might have to go do some looking this week! I think our bank account was safer when I thought we only had a couple different places to go!

Mine too. If it wasn't for this board I wouldn't have a clue of places to go.

Last time I was there they had a treadle machine fixed up in nice cabinet and one of the feather weights big sisters.

GEE! Nice stash. I said I was not buying anymore fabric this month, BUT if Wally World has their material on sale, I'll have to go get some fabric...I'm on my way today..Hope to get my stash to growing. Thanks for the tip.

karenpatrick 02-13-2011 05:40 AM

Me too! Hobby Lobby is expensive when it comes to fabrics.

karenpatrick 02-13-2011 05:43 AM

It's nice to see so many of you from Indiana posting today. I am from Bridgeton in Parke county. Nice to meet you.

barney 02-13-2011 06:01 AM

I find most of the $4.95 to #5.95 WM fabric has the same weight and quality as the $8.95 Quilt shop, however selection is better at QS. I bought some the other day on sale for $2.50at WM and it is wonderful fabric.

Cris 02-13-2011 06:19 AM

Nice!

dinlauren 02-13-2011 06:20 AM

Great that you could add such terrific mixers to your stash. I'm hoping local Walmarts will start carrying fabric again. Have fun.

Bernie942 02-13-2011 06:51 AM

Wow, mine is bringing in new fabric and I'm kinda waiting before I buy. Might bring in something that I absolutely, positivly have to have.LOL

jad1044 02-13-2011 07:11 AM

Our WW has a lot of fabrics, but I never see as nice an assortment of fabric like what you found - very appealing! I'm so happy ours is keeping their fabric department or I'd have to drive a hundred miles for the closest good fabric store. So, when I do 'get away from home' I really buy up - and while I'm sewing my quilt tops, I'm planning ahead so when the chance arrives to shop at a big fabric shop - I know pretty much what to look for.

bobbie1 02-13-2011 07:41 AM

Lucky you!!! Did you crochet table cloth? Beautiful. I crochet but nothing like that!

KathieS 02-13-2011 09:48 AM

Your fabric choices are gorgeous. Lucky girl to keep your Wally fabric department !

Stitchalong 02-13-2011 10:07 AM

Nice stash!!

cjaye44 02-13-2011 10:16 AM

Looks like you got some nice ones!!

GrannyLady 02-13-2011 10:30 AM

Most of the Wal-marts close to me have really down-sized their fabric departments. However, I was in the Colombia one last week and they had lots of bolts on sale for $2 or $3 per yard. I bought quite a bit. I asked if they were on sale because they were doing away with the dept. She said she didn't think so, because they just had her restock one section with new fabric. Was really glad to hear that.

Greeter Eva 02-13-2011 11:17 AM

They said that they were keeping thier fabric here too, but it wasn't true, & they didn't even feel guilty about it.

babyfireo4 02-13-2011 11:51 AM

No I didn't do the tablecloth. I took the pic at my moms house, since she has internet and my phone won't upload photos to the web. My Aunt Leeta make it for her.
