I don't use my walking foot for piecing... the "hopping" action and my ability to sew a 1/4 seam just don't seem to play well together.

Love my Pfaff, with the IDT.

I don't like using my walking foot for piecing with cotton fabrics. But... I do use it when piecing with flannel and minky. It's also useful for sewing on vinyl / oil cloth / laminated fabrics that can be sticky.

I have to say that I have several name brand walking feet that I bought specific to my machine. They all broke pretty fast. I found a nice generic one with a metal bar that goes over the needle bar (vs the name brand being plastic) and that one works great and has lasted the longest. So I guess I have been lucky with generic vs. name brand. I don't use a walking foot for piecing.

Ditto. No need for a walking foot with my Pfaff.

The only way I would do this is on a machine with a built - in dual feed system. It is handy for piecing accurately. However, the general walking foot is so slow and clunky that I would get frustrated with the time it would take to get anything done.

Piecing life is so much easier with the IDT:)

I use it when stitching long lengths of fabric and when sewing a sandwiched quilt. It is essential when stitching in the ditch to stabilize a quilt sandwich and adding the binding. Mine is made for my Bernina machine rather than generic.

I generally keep mine on all the time. Have done so for several years. Give it a drop of oil whenever I oil my machine.

The only problem I can see that you may run into using a walking foot for piecing is the bulk of the foot itself. It may cause seam allowance problems that you just can't see
