My walking foot cost $79.98 on sale, this was some years ago so it is either more expensive or less by now. It is all metal except the housing. Still working like new. Some of my machines came with a walking foot and they are plastic inside. They do a good job if the layers aren't too bulky. I have broken a lot of them.

I bought one at Missouri Sewing Machine and used it the other day on a baby quilt. No puckers. I am very pleased. I didn't have to stay stitch or glue. Happiness. It worked so good. Now I am wondering about using the walking foot for just sewing things together or do I need to change to the regular foot. I can play around with it but it is so much easier to have you all tell me what you have done. Ha! Is it coming across that I might be a bit lazy? Or just in a hurry to finish up.

I use my walking foot for every thing as does my daughter too! (also from Mo.) originally at least!

I have a "built in" walking foot on my Elna, but usually only drop it down when attaching binding or have bulky stuff. But I did purchase a Janome (Elna and Janome made by same manufacturer)1/4" walking foot attachment recently to use when doing piecing where there will be lots of seams (i.e. bargello)--now if only I could find it in my sewing room! Haven't tried it out yet.

I got an accurate 1/4" foot for piecing and do much better with it than with the bulky walking foot. Now quilting... that's a different story.

I never use my walking foot, just don't like it and have never found a need to use it. Tried using it on binding once an had a horrible mess.

I have tried using it for a straight seam but I just can't get an accurate 1/4" so I don't use it too often.

Okay, most of you say not to use the walking foot for sewing and I think I will not use my walking foot for regular sewing. I need all the help I can get to have accurate 1/4" seams. This sewing machine I inherited is a very simple inexpensive machine and I want to keep everything in working order for a long time. Thanks to you all for the info.

I have a Pfaff with IDT and use it for all my sewing with very few exceptions. My Brother machine has a separate walking foot. I occasionally use the Brother machine for piecing and I really prefer using the walking foot on it.

I sometimes use my walking foot for regular sewing. I don't think there is any rule. Do whatever makes you happy with your quilting.
