Yesterday the creative cuts were marked down to $3.98 for 2 yards. Regular price $7.97. When I checked out the price was $1.99 for 2 yards. Some fat quarters and 5 inch squares (100) were $2.74. Some of the fat quarters were 31 cents. Of course I walked back and picked up several more.
This store still says they are not getting the bolts back but they are reducing the price of the fabric.
The price was worth walking back twice to get more fabric.

NikkiLu 07-19-2011 03:57 AM

Wow - thanks for the info - looks like I will be going to town today - early though - with all of this heat.

oldswimmer 07-19-2011 03:58 AM

Nice. But too bad they wont be getting bolts back :(
Our store has gotten a very nice selection of bolts in recently. They were one store that never took out the fabric department. Sounds like you got a great deal!

blueangel 07-19-2011 04:08 AM

We never lost ours.

Enchanted Quilter 07-19-2011 04:41 AM

We are getting our fabric dept back so are alot of the stores around the Tulsa ok area.

ontheriver 07-19-2011 04:44 AM

Our store shows no sign of fabric returning, darn. I keep hoping since I have to drive at least 45 min. one way to buy fabric. Online shopping has become my best resource, but then I can't get my "fix" of looking and feeling all the beautiful fabric.

sahm4605 07-19-2011 04:48 AM

I am telling you. the louder you "yell" about the fabric being brought back the better your chances are of getting it back. write email and call corporate and make sure you are telling the "management" of your local walmart. the more people and the louder we ask the better the chance will be that we are heard.

BellaBoo 07-19-2011 05:19 AM

It's mostly the management of the local store if the store is one of the can if you want to sell fabric or not. I can tell a big difference in the WalMarts that have knowledgeable sewers in the dept from the ones that prefer crafting.

brookemarie19 07-19-2011 05:27 AM

We still have our bolts, but they did bring in all the precuts too. We never have any good deals like that though. We dont have enough competition here, so don't mark down anything :(

snowdenb 07-19-2011 05:43 AM

I was surprised that it was that price. There is not any competition in Rogersville, TN. The nearest fabric store is in Kingsport.

AbbyQuilts 07-19-2011 06:09 AM

I just learned last night that one close to me that is planted right next to a Joanns and in 1 plaza away from a LQS is getting their fabric back. Someone snap a pic to show me because they knew I wouldn't believe lol.

kathdavis 07-19-2011 06:36 AM

That is exactly what they did in ours before they brought back the bolts. But they did have some sales like that when they were switching the fabric for different seasons, like summer into fall, etc.

collady 07-19-2011 07:27 AM

The stores sell as much of the precuts before the bolts are brought back. It is to make room for the yardage. I left last week with the precuts on sale. Hopefully next week when I get home, they will be stocking the yardage!

Sweeterthanwine 07-19-2011 07:36 AM

I found out on my last trip to our Wal Mart store, they are going to remodel and I'm hoping that is a sign that fabric will come back

quiltwhisperer 07-19-2011 07:52 AM

i checked with walmart about fabric dept returning---they say they are returning all fabric depts to all walmart stores-i have already shopped at 1 in northern virginia a few days ago

TacoMama 07-19-2011 07:57 AM

They should NOT have taken the bolts out in the first place! Wal-Mart has caused a lot of businesses to close. My aunt had a fabric shop and she couldn't compete with their prices, so she closed and then the WM took out the fabric section of their store. Dirty, dirty, dirty!!!!!!

EagarBeez 07-19-2011 08:05 AM

I will be making a trek tomorrow to the town that also has the one and only Walmart in the immediate area. I will see if anything is different. I wrote to management of our store and asked, but, I have not gotten any reply back yet

That is what all big box stores do. Ask any man what happens when Lowe's and Home Depot comes into town.
The mom and pop hardware stores close and then when they are closed Home depot dose not carry all of the little specialty things.

Walmart gets the bad rap but really all big box stores do the same thing and it is really we the consumer that drives the little guys out by voting with our wallet

Do you know which stores around Tulsa are getting the fabric back? The one in Bixby doesn't have any.

quiltingcath 07-19-2011 05:57 PM

I was at our wal-mart(mechanicsburg pa) last week and they are setting up for new fabric they even had new fat-quarters and charm packs.. So maybe it will come back to your local wal-mart

twinkie 07-20-2011 02:52 AM

According to home office (when I was there last month), they are returning full bolt fabric to 700 stores that lost their fabric by September. Our store is not receiving full bolt fabric. We are receiving the "creative cuts" or pre cut fabric. Fabric departments that have the creative cuts and are clearancing them out, are getting full bolt fabric.

purplekwilt 07-20-2011 02:58 AM

We have a couple of Wal-Marts close by and neither one carry fabric. Liked it when they did.

twinkie 07-20-2011 02:58 AM

Thank you for your comments. All large retail stores do the same thing but I for one think it is good that they are listening to their customers. They had so many complaints about taking the fabric out. I know of many fabric stores that continue to operate even with fabric in Wal Marts. We have a very large (about the size of old Wal Mart Stores) fabric store in our county that is always busy and there are two Wal Marts that have large fabric departments in the county. We had three Wal Marts with fabric (one was only a mile away) until they closed one of the fabric departments.

grayma 07-20-2011 03:25 AM

I checked out our local WalMart yesterday. They are starting to get the bolts in, but it looks like a very small area. I hope it doesn't hurt the LQS!

redmadder 07-20-2011 03:31 AM

There is no fabric in Kingsland, GA Walmart. Not even precuts. So I don't shop there unless for groceries. I'd rather drive to Target for everything else. Walmart, are you listening? I used to spend $400.00 a week then the fabric went and so did I.

BarbM32 07-20-2011 03:33 AM

I have been to several Walmarts in different states and was not happy with the quality nor the pricing of what they were selling. Difinitely found no bargains and what I saw on their so-called bargain table was not worth buying.

marymay 07-20-2011 03:37 AM

Wish my WM had FQs and 5" squares. Will drive to another WM that sells them today. Just to see if they have this sell.

Yarn or Fabric 07-20-2011 05:01 AM

wow that is interesting. My WM had their fat quarters reduced to 75 cents each so I figured they were getting rid of them as well - we lost bolts this past spring and then the 2 yard cuts came in and I don't think they have been selling all too well....
Next time I'm in mine I'll have to scan the price to see if ours have been reduced...

Not necessarily.

Sometimes the local management does all it can to keep the fabric department (Dade City, FL- 2009- for example) - and corporate ran rough-shod over what they wanted.

We do not have fabric in our store yet

joanelizbay 07-20-2011 05:15 AM

I went to our Wal Mart last week and they were SOOOOO excited, said "we have fabric back"...I went back and looked. Ha...they had mini bolts of fabric, 2 yard bolts. about 30 in total and alot of pre-cuts but NO big bolts of fabric and not many colors to choose from. Thats not "fabric" to me! I sure hope they bring back the big bolts and panels and a better variety!

cr12cats 07-20-2011 05:48 AM

the only one here is on the west side of town. it has nice fabric but it it always has a bunch of rude people there when i go. so i don't go very often. i wish they would get it back in derby where it is a nicer store,

snowdenb 07-20-2011 06:15 AM

the ones I bought for $2.74 were a package of 7 fat quarters

hoppa 07-20-2011 06:22 AM

SAw yesterday that our local walmart is rearranging and u[dating the store so maybe they wull be bringing fabric back soon

IdahoSandy 07-20-2011 06:40 AM

lucky that you have this at Wal-Mart as our store has only bolts.
IdahoSandy

LyraJean 07-20-2011 06:42 AM

My Walmart has the pre-cut fabric, some fat quarters, and charms. They also have batting. Since I work there I also receive an extra 10% discount. But I still see myself going to JoAnn's or if I can find a LQS I will go to that.

Just because selection and quality will probably be much better than any Walmart.

Me too. I also tired of paying shipping.

FroggyinTexas 07-20-2011 06:52 AM

Our store has got the bolts back, plus the "creative cuts" and a whole wall of notions. Employees tell me that all the stock is not yet in and that even if it were, every employee in the store is pulling triple and quadruple duty and it would be hard to get it on the shelves because of that. Despite the problems, I have already bought four yards (like I really needed it) and have used at least one yard for binding on four small quilts and am going to use another yard for lining on a purse today. froggyintexas

FroggyinTexas 07-20-2011 06:58 AM

Sounds like the one on the west side of my home town, way out in W. Texas. froggyintexas

tweezy50 07-20-2011 06:58 AM

Went to walmart yesterday and had a strange experience. We never lost our fabric, but they are redoing that area and adding to it. They had "maps" taped to the shelves showing where every bolt shold go. Most of the bots were in shopping carts waiting for their new homes. Had to do my shopping out of the carts. Must say, it didn't stop me!
