Washable graphite pencil not washing out - update!

Thanks to everyone for the good suggestions and the support. I did everything suggested and ordered the marking pencil remover. After three washings and hard scrubbings with bleach, it started to fade but is still noticable. I attached a picture but you can barely see it. I think what happened is that I didn't move quick enough with my FMQ and the stitches got squished and caught the graphite tightly inside them. First effort, oh well. So, I will quilt some decorative vine patterns to cover the remaining marks. I should have hand quilted it!!!

It is hard when a product disappoints you and on such a beautiful ribbon embroidery quilt too. Chances are the person you are giving it to will not notice because they will see the love and hard work that you've put into it. Three of the saddest words....could've, would've, should've and I've said them many times myself.

I'm so sorry for the difficulty you are having. The quilt is gorgeous though and I'm sure your friend will love it anyway. I'll bet that the graphite will wash out over time.

So glad to read this post. I was getting ready to use this pen to mark my quilt.
Your quilt is so beautiful. So sorry you had to go through all this.

I had the same trouble with a blue chalk pencil on a white queen size quilt made for my best friend of 30+ years. I finished up the binding in our RV on our way to Michigan to gift it to her and was mortified when it wouldn't come out. If I were you, I would keep working it a few more times, just don't dry it. I was finally able to remove the last of the markings with a paste of spray oxy + oxy powder and got under the stitching a little with a toothbrush. I also let it sit for several hours each time. I think it finally took 5-6 washings, air drying in between. Best of luck, it looks beautiful anyway!
