The accuracy in the cuts is worth a little "waste" to me. Also, I consider the time the GO saves when cutting.

If I have very thin slivery strips I throw them out in the yard for our Feathered Friends to use in their Nest building. Also Threads!

I'd probably throw it away. I don't keep anything less than 1.5". It looks like a lot because of the way it is piled. I can't think of a use for it other than crumb quilts or stuffing or possibly a scrappy chenille.

I sve them for string blocks, they have to be at least 1.5 inches otherwise I toss them too.

I would probably get rid of them too. I can't see how one could use such narrow strips...once the seams are done there would be little left. I see only a few that would be wide enough for string quilting. You've got some pretty pieces in there. Can't wait to see what you do with the FQs.

I could certainly live with that amount of waste, but I'm sure someone out there thinks it is awful to toss it. You have to live with yourself. If you like the accuracy of the cuts, don't worry about the strings.

Unless you are going to fuse skinny strips to create a string, I don't see how you can use these for traditional piecing. I don't consider that to be a horrible amount of waste-- specially if your perfectly cut pieces translate to a completed project that you enjoy and are proud of. True waste is the UFO stashed forever in the back of a closet because it's so frustrating to work on.

I calculate 42 fat quarter as 10 1/2 yds. fabric. That is not much waste for that much fabric. If it were my leftovers, I would tale out the selvage pieces as I use those to make projects with, but rest I would toss. Sometimes I keep the tiny slivers and add them to an apothecary jar I have in my sewing room, just because I like it as a decoration.

I would say that either a string quilt or use as stuffing in pet beds, which is what I do with all my "scraps" that are too small to work with.
