Waste or Not?

Here is a picture of the remaining pieces after cutting 42 fat quarters with the Accuquilt Go cutter. I love to use it but feel there is a lot of unusable fabric pieces from the cuts. What do you think?

I am sure that someone will go crazy for these scraps. I have limited space so I couldn't keep them. Could be a string quilt in someone's future. Do we get to see what you made with the fat quarters? BrendaK

For me not waste. I love the accurate cuts and I don't have to trim or square up nearly as much after piecing if I had cut them with a roller and ruler. Plus now I don't buy the precuts at a premium I cut my own strips, shapes and squares saving money in the long run.

Stuffing for a quilted pillow maybe???? Ergo, not "waste"...

Actually, I'm surprised at how narrow most of the leftovers are. Seems to me if the results are neat and more accurate than rotary cutting the tiny bit of waste is worth it. I've never used a cutter like that, but would love to try it.

I don't have one but I think there is "waste" in cutting fabrics more or less no matter how you cut it.

Oh dear! I would probably throw them away....but that's me. If you WANTED to do something with them, I am recalling a class I took. You arrange the scraps (could include snippets of ribbon and/or lace too) on a foundation, then place a fine tulle over it, FMQ all over it to hold it together. Then you can do further embellishments if you'd like, add a binding. For the foundation, we crazy patched some neutral-ish fabrics and added some decorative stitching. We must've had a thin batting too, but I don't recall what--maybe W&N? Viola, a fun creation! Sadly I realized my creation or the process did not speak to me for doing more, but it was fun!

I save my scraps and give them to a fellow quilter. He fills an old pillowcase with them and sews the end closed. He gives them to the animal shelter for pet beds. He says when they get dirty, they can either be washed or thrown away. This looks like a good use for these scraps.

that is not much waste at all-and you get perfect cuts.even manually cutting there is waste on the edges

I see a few selvedges in your scrap pile. I don't use them, but some on here do. When I have scraps this small, I just put them in the trash.
