Um, I think I have spent well over my limit this year..oops

Yooper32 03-25-2011 03:09 AM

If most of us have exceeded that amount per person, hmmmm. does that mean that the original overall sales figures are on the light side? Either that or someone is not pulling their weight and only buying 2 fat quarters a year. That would not be anyone on this board, however, I am sure.

Well, that's not so bad per year. My DH will be happy to hear that.

Will Walmart finally get the message?

Really enjoyed this little video -------- shows someone has his head screwed on correctly!

Bigg 03-25-2011 03:42 AM

Evidently Wal-Mart didn't know we were all out here.... as they took the bolts of fabrics out of thier stores. Maybe someone at Wal-Mart headquaters needs to read the paper.

Happy Tails 03-25-2011 03:44 AM

Isn''t that cool???

That's right! Plus, when I go to Walmart to buy fabric, I always buy non-fabric stuff too, but when I go to a fabric store, then I might buy my other stuff at Target or the grocery store. So, Walmart, if anyone there is listening, cutting fabric departments means cutting non-fabric related purchases too!

Yah, I spent more than that on my first shopping "trip" to Hancocks of Paducah's website. I am saving all my receipts in a file and will add it up at the end of the year (certainly not before). I know my bottom line has to be in the thousands at the end of a year. :?

vivoaks 03-25-2011 04:03 AM

It wouldn't be anywhere near that amount if it weren't for online shopping now! I only have one small quilt shop near me, and a couple of Joann Fabrics within a half hour to 45 minutes. I buy almost all my fabric online....isn't the internet a marvelous thing?!!

kolacequeen 03-25-2011 04:08 AM

And my husband thinks I contribute the majority of it.

mimistutz 03-25-2011 04:40 AM

I think I spend my share too, but had to print this article. My DH is retired trucker, I have to show him this. He helps me with color selection and gets a little more involved all the time. Keep telling him he'll be quilting by next year. He even went to and enjoyed the Lancaster quilt show with me last week. He was facinated by the longarms.

I started saving ALLL my sewing related receipts. If you sell a quilt or two your fabric, threads etc are tax deductible.

Homespun 03-25-2011 05:05 AM

Happy to know quilting is not a dieing art!

shirley35 03-25-2011 05:05 AM

I always like to help the economy.

ediedarlene 03-25-2011 05:05 AM

lbaillie 03-25-2011 05:17 AM

lillybeck 03-25-2011 05:17 AM

I think this is great. My DH is former long hauler and it is frustrating just waiting aroung. Wish I could have gotten him interested.

This is one of the cutest articles i have read in a long time. My previous husband was a long haul truck driver too. He lived alone for a long time and learned to sew and iron (from his grandparents) better than any one i knew. This was even before he became a truck driver. Back in the old country it was not considered necessarily a woman's hobby or job. It was more a matter of being able to take care of yourself.

Lynneander 03-25-2011 07:04 AM

... and darn proud of that fact!!

Ruby the Quilter 03-25-2011 07:11 AM

I attend a church of about 200 plus and always finding someone new that quilts. HMMM- maybe I need to organize a quilting group.

THAT should earn us some respect in the marketplace (or at our bankers)!!

atvrider 03-25-2011 07:39 AM

Job security, who knew?

Oh, Foxflower, you think just like me! I ran for the calculator right away. Unfortunately I came up with a different # ($76) so we still haven't settled anything.

Anybody else want to help figure this out?

Never mind, I figured out what I did wrong. $171 it is...and I spent waaaay more than that in Lancaster last weekend at the AQS show.

katyquilter 03-25-2011 08:01 AM

I'm certainly doing my part!!

dixiechunk 03-25-2011 08:04 AM

One more comment and I'll shut up. If these figures came from that quilt magazine survey (you know, the one where they just asked "How much do you spend a year on quilting?") it can't be all that scientific. I know I just took a wild guess so who knows how close I actually came.
