Go with your gut feeling - it's never wrong. And remember, U.S. Postal Money Orders, bank or cashier's checks, and any other form of paper payment (including U.S. bills) can easily be counterfitted on a laser printer. If you sell a lot, it might be a good idea to ask someone at your bank to show you how to recognize fake bills. If people are big into scamming, you know they are set up to do the fanciest of print jobs to that end.

It's good that people are recognizing these patterns scammers use - like being out of town on a business trip, having their men pick it up, etc - it is those patterns that give them away, once people begin to catch on. Then they'll have to dream up a new scheme, and we'll have to figure them out, too.

As my father used to say, and so many on here have said, if it's too good to be true, it's not true.

Hi everyone... I'm not a quilter but was doing a google seach about a 'Weird Offer' I got for car I'd posted on Craigslist. I, too, got a strange request from someone named Solly Blessings; the person asked me to pull my listing and consider it sold to him. He was willing to pay with certified check and go over my asking price, and he'd have his transport company p/u the item AFTER I had cashed the check. Well, this leaves too many unanswered questions, & I asked for his info to which he replied he'd give it to me AFTER I gave him my info to mail the check to. I'm sure we'd all agree this is truly questionable. Stay away from this person/offer! Just wanted to share so others are aware. Happy Quilting to y'all. (Spread the word about this scam, too)

Hi - two tips -
Put your phone number only in the CL ad and "hide" email. These scammers only operate through email as far as I know. A real person who is interested in your item won't mind calling you.
Second, if you do get a suspicious email, copy a sentence from it and Google that sentence. If it is part of a scam you will come up with a whole bunch of hits with the same sentence.
One thing these scammers are not, is original.

Same thing happened to me when I listed on Craigslist. He emailed me a couple of times with same inst. as he gave you. I ignored him after that.

I recently had 2 ads I put on CL for a neighbor without internet access. One for a boat windshield and one for an ice cream maker. Got the same "weird offer" response to each one, from different people.
When I saw the first one I thought it was a scam, when I saw the same wording in the second one, I KNEW it was a scam.

Solly Blessings... I've gotten email from that person (always ends up in my Junkmail box) - advising me of all those huge, unclaimed inheritances I've inherited from deceased "relatives" I never knew existed (and they probably didn't), or those Canadian lotteries I've won, and they're just waiting for my check to cover the handling, as well as my SS# and all the necessary data. Right. But people must fall for these schemes, or these people would be out of business. How sad!

I got an offer to buy from Solly, too!!! I'd heard about that scam...so I wrote back and said "get a legitimate job"... LOL

Hahaha... that's funny! I'm afraid to open those emails, since I've heard so many things about their dumping viruses or worms or other malware onto one's hard drive, so I just empty the Junkmail box. I surely have inherited lots of money, though. <G> And if you believe that, you'll believe that my handsome prince is just about to appear and change my life forever. <G>

It's always better to meet in a public place. I'm sure you all have heard about the person who posted a diamond ring on Craig's List for sale and a couple went to the house to look at it and then killed the person who posted the item for sale and robbed his house, so please be very careful about answering an ad on Craig's List or even Ebay for that matter,, there too many scammers out there. Never give out any information unless you are sure they are legit and meet in a public place such as a malll or some place like that. Huggies, Fay
