I read all the time about lap quilts. What I have been thinking about lately is something more like a quilt shawl that one could wrap around themselves when they lay down or while they are sitting or walking around.
It would need to be more rectangular than square, I would think. And probably lined with something soft and warm. Perhaps flannel or fleece?
I just keep thinking that if one is not confined to a sitting position, a shawl-like quilt would be more adaptable in the long run.
What are your thoughts on this everyone?

I know as a nurse I am always wrapping blankets around peoples shoulders, they always say that it makes them more comfortable.

Try Moda Bake Shop. I saw one there last fall.

I think they would be a great thing to make as I know for myself I wear a shawl all evening around here, and love them.
Thanks for the ideal :D

They used to have patterns for bed jackets. I made one many years ago for my sister. They were quilted and nice and warm while sitting in bed reading or whatever.

This might sound crazy, but what about adapting a tree skirt pattern? You could change the keyhole center to a large teardrop shape that blended out to the outer skirt edge... Clear as mud right? Maybe leave out a wedge/gore to cut down on excess fabric hanging around bottom...
Just a thought.

might be nice to put on a couple of big pockets as well to carry some of those things that we chilly people need..tissues, a book, cell phone, etc. just a rectangle on each side of the front opening would work - if you put them inside the wrap, the wearer could put their hands in the pockets and keep the wrap closed at the same time.
