Purses, totes, makeup bags, wallets. During the hot months I move from making quilts to smaller items, buying fat quarter collectionns or quilt kits on clearance is a great way to get fabric for smaller projects thats already co-ordinated. I get quilt kits a lot of times with no intention of making the pattern that comes with it. Most times I get awesome fabric at a great price.

LovinMySoldier 08-09-2011 08:19 PM

Collections :) I seem to collect them but rarely use them lol!

I really like FQ. It enables me to have all fabrics from a line. I make pretty much make any and every quilt with FQ. I do sometimes add yardage for a border or sashing.

Civil war tribute and other reproduction FQ plus yardage for border, setting triangles and sashing.

Almost all Australian FQ

Pretty much all Hoffman Christmas FQ

Mostly FQ donation quilt top for Jan in VA project millitary in Farrah Afghanistan

Bonnie Hunt pattern Left over brown and black moda fQ from a line I used all other colors up. Set in muslin.

Haven't bought a FQ. The regular quarter yd works for me.

BMP 08-10-2011 01:31 AM

I have only used them if a pattern calls for them (table runner) other than that I get them for applique, in our area you can get 1/2 yd cuts at some places for just a bit more $ so I buy 1/2 yds.

WOW, I love all of your quilts....

I love using fat quarters too. Here are a few of mine....

I actually just bought a bunch from Keepsake Quilting when they had the 40% off sale online lol...They should be here any day woohoo...I am wanting to do the Turning Twenty, Yellow Brick Road and Take 5 still...

thequilterslink 08-10-2011 03:01 AM

i use FQ in scrappy quilts, i also use them in the block of the month swap here on the board, also in the doll quilt swap. Humbug bags are fun to make and a FQ makes a good sized one. Snap bags are another good thing to make.

I made their straightlaced pattern it is absolutely beautiful in teal and purple asian fabrics from northcott. their kits are very reasonable too. I bought 1 from a show, also they were very helpful in getting me the info on the fabric line when I wanted to make something else

This used to be me - but now that I started making totes from charms I'm finding myself using up all of those collections of FQ's...especially the coordinating ones.

So obviously my answer would be totes...pictures on my blog...

Love, love, LOVE your bargellos!!!

libthekwltr 08-10-2011 04:36 AM

That was meant for Wendysquilts -- her bargellos, esp. the water one with the fish swimming through, is one I'd love to have!! Great job, Wendy!

libthekwltr 08-10-2011 04:42 AM

I just finished piecing together a twisted bargello made from 20 FQs. My LQS had the class taught by an amazing instructor with great tips for tackling this project; it wasn't nearly as tough as I thought is would be, just time- and work-intensive. Who knew 20 FQs could produce such a great project!

sguillot 08-10-2011 04:43 AM

what is a D9P?

Buckeye Rose 08-10-2011 04:53 AM

10 Minute block...if you reduce the size to 9", you can get four blocks (most of the time)

small bargello ...table runner, wall hanging

D9P

quiltymom 08-10-2011 04:58 AM

Quilts pot holders wallets pinchions baby bibs etc.

quiltymom 08-10-2011 05:39 AM

Would love to see pics of your wallets!!!

unclefreckles 08-10-2011 05:53 AM

We did a pattern called "Beveled Blocks" in the last quilting class that I took using Fat Quarters. I don't have a picture available here right now to send. But I loved it, because I used purple and teal in the blocks. Purple being my favorite color and teal a good second.

annthreecats 08-10-2011 05:56 AM

I make these little boxy pouches with fat quarters.

Tutorial link here.

If I can figure out how to get the pictures of my wallets to my camera to my computer I will post them.

Tudey 08-10-2011 06:01 AM
