It has taken me two years from the death of my husband to really get into the swing of things again. With lots of help from my quilting friends, I started with little projects like zipper bags, purses and table toppers. I think stress can sometimes block our creative sides. Be patient and start with something simple for instant gratification. Maybe make just one block for a scrappy kind of a quilt. Just handling your scraps to find the right combination of fabrics might get you going again.

......each block has 289 - 1 1/2" squares in it.......that would definitely put me in a dark place'. That does not sound like fun! But that's my personal feeling......

I think that those of us who like to work/create with our hands----what side of the brain- I forget----- need diversion also. That's ok.......if I sewed everyday that would be like a job to me and would no longer be enjoyable and self satisfying....so I do not feel at all guilty when I "take a break"...be it now gardening, or even cleaning out closets, or cabinets...just to make going back an a-ha moment.......and yes, life's little problems do many times muddy the waters.....

I haven't been able to do any of my hand quilting which is therapy to me or finish organizing my sewing area. I like to look at quilting magazines to get inspired or go to a quilt shop or Joann's. Hope this helps.

Must be the weather, I have a couple of projects started and can't seem to want to finish.

I find it helps to have many projects lined up. The thought of those quilts waiting at the end of the list inspires me to keep moving forward with current ones.

nellie, I hear ya! A buddy to sew with would definitely do it for me too. But we're on opposite coasts, you in CA me in MA. How do we close the gap?

Lots of good advice listed, especially a small project to give a sense of accomplishment or organizing fabric & patterns or make something just for you. What motivates me most is being around other quilters, see if there are any local shows or shop hops or see about taking a quick class. On the other hand it could just be your body's way of telling you to take a break...

I got that way this whole past winter which is when I get my quilting done. Now that I've finally got back into the groove of things as I got my quilt machine fixed which was some of the problem why I wasn't in the mood. Now I'm trying to catch up with the quilting so I can start making more quilt tops. Plus now that Spring and Summer are in our mist, I'm having to divide my time between the gardens and the sewing room. Anyway, I just had to shake the cobwebs and tell myself "I can do this".

much be catching I have been feeling the same way but we have had lots of cloudy rainy weather so have been blaming it on that to bad we don't live closer together so we could set a day and get together even to make a block and maybe that would motivate us

I have been in a slump myself lately so I started making dresses for my DGD and can't wait until I finish so I can start a quilt. It is the cutting I hate but once I get that done I am ready to go.
