I never wash ones I give away. We always cherished our new dresses before they were washed because they never looked quite as nice once they'd been washed. I think that may be one of the reasons I give my quilts away unwashed. Perhaps the other is I'm a tad bit on the lazy side. LOL

For some reason I would think the fabric sheets would give an oil or stain the materials ?

Yes, wash it and use fabric sheets. Nice and clean and smells good. Barb

I wash my fabric before I quilt but I don't wash before I give.

i dont wash mine before i give them away...i love the new crispness of them...and thats the way i like to give them...if they have been marked on the top prior to quilting then yes i will quilt

I do wash them for a variety of reasons: getting out the oils/dirt from handling; getting out marks from the quilting process; get the crinkly look going; making sure nothing bleeds that last, final time.

I think you should because of so much handling. It does change the appearance because of the stitching but that's the look I go for anyway.
