I save them and use on scrape quilts
I've used them to make a few of those baskets made with clothes line. Just wrapped the binding around the cotton rope and sewed away. Was fun and the baskets are SO useful!

I sew mine together an dmake scrappy bindings. Look great on scrappy quilts.
I sew them together and use them on scrap quilts. I find myself making a little extra so I will have some leftover to add to the roll. I wind them around a big very hard cardboard tube and they are always ready to use to bind a scrappy quilt!

I've used them for scrappy binding, for binding for small projects (sometimes I REALLY overestimate how much I'll need) or ironed them flat again and used them in a string quilt.
I save them & then sew together to make scrappy binding for scrappy quilts.
I googled phone book quilt and got a great lesson! So easy to do! You end up with 6x6 squares with this lesson which can be sewn together with a sashing (if you wish) into a very nice quilt.
Stitch the Binding strips together and use them on pot holders.
D in TX |
I save them till I get a bunch then sew them together to make a scrappy quilt from. There are patterns out here with 2.5 inch stripes. Or you could send them to me. LOL

great ideas ladies!

I am making a Carol Doak Mariners Stars Paper pieced quilt and find the binding strips very usable .I also find that because I like the same fabric combinations I use up the left over binding easily .I have also used them in a log cabin quilt.

Thanks for the quick idea for scraps. I just Googled the phone book quilts and well, duh, why didn't I think of that before. I see another quilt in my future. A good quick project when you only have a short time to work but must get your hand on fabric. :-D

I cut my bindings 2 1/2 inches. Any leftover binding I cut into 2 1/2 inch squares and make 9 patch squares. I try to make one a day - just to use up my squares. My plan is to make a quilted sweatshirt from my squares. It is amazing how quickly the squares add up.

Well now I will as I am going to tear phone book pages today and then as I finish a project, I can add strips at that time. I have good intentions anyway. LOL |
I like this idea too! We just never stop with the good uses of scraps.
I save them also and use them as binding for my scrappy projects
I save to use in scrap quilts
I use them for binding for my scrappy quilts.
Just sew them all together and use it. This ties in the scrappy look of the quilt plus you are using the leftovers. Tjis works great for kids quilts. Do not worry about dif lenghts of the binding,it's scrappy. |

I save them for the log cabin quilts and have even cut them 2 1/2 by 6 and sewn them like a rail fence quilt.
I save mine, too and you can do with them anything yu would do with any other fabric left overs!!! Have fun!!
nothing yet , i am like you saving them in a bag waiting to figure out what to do with them maybe one day i will have enoght to put them all together and make a crazy binding on a quilt
I'm so glad that this question was asked. I've always wondered what to do with these scraps and now I know :-)
I make coasters (mug rugs) and bind them with the leftovers. If you are making a scrappy quilt, iron them out and make your own fabric piece.
Maybe I'm just lazy...but I bring the backing around to form the binding.

scrappy quilts, journal covers, pockets made out of left over blocks on my recycle bags. Attached is a picture of how I store them, this is one of two jars. |
Hmmm - mine are in a box labeled "binding leftovers". Not sure why I saved them; just knew they would come in handy some day. Thanks for all the great ideas!
I sew them together and use the binding for scrappy quilts. If it is less then 4" I put it in my string collection.

I sew them together and use them for colorful scrappy community outreach quilts
No need to throw them away, use them to bind charity quilts, place mats, table runners, etc.
