Sometimes I think I'm just compulsive or have a "depression-era mentality", but I butt the scraps together and hand stitch them into pieces big enough for wall hangings and mini quilts and even child sized or lap quilts. I just hate seeing anythng go to waste- our resources are too limited to be wasteful. When in a certain frame of mind, it is the perfect activity for me!

I save mine. If they're really small, I toss them in a pillowcase to make a pet bed. The larger ones I will sew together and use in smaller projects. Right now i have a big tote full that I need to take dare of. My cat will be mad because he snuggles up in it!

I throw anything too little to use into a bag when there is enough I toss it into an old pillowcase stitch up the end and donate to the Humane Society for washable/throw away beds for cats and dogs. they seem to really appreciate this.

I agree; these are all marvelous ideas. Some I already knew but I gained many new ideas!

I save most pieces. I use the very lightweight Pellon fusible interfacing in place of Heat Press to fuse the strips/pieces together. However, I also zig-zag on the reverse side of the batting at the join. Heat Press is so expensive & I'm trying to save money. I'll buy 5 yards of the interfacing at Hobby Lobby with the 40% coupon, so it becomes economical. I then cut it into 1" wide x width strips. I also fuse it up as soon as I finish trimming the quilt. I make the piece as big as I need it to be. I do save the batting in the original bags so I know what batting I'm using as sometimes I forget!

I zigzag the pieces together making new batts.

We gather them up and take them to our quilt group. When evened up and zig zagged together they are great for the quilts we make to donate. After quilted, they are perfect.

Thanks for posting the great question! I enjoyed reading all the uses people have for them. I also have narrow strips I've trimmed off and am not sure what to do with them, so I often toss them.

I save reasonable sizes for crafts. Skinny trims get tossed.
