I would find something nice to say, and encouragement, and maybe offer to have her come to my quilting group, you can never learn too much.
|
Find something that I like about the quilt - color, pattern and comment on that. Can't say anything negative about someone elses work.
|
Saying something is interesting is OK in my book, but never is it ok to say oh that is different. My DMIL loved that one-drove me nuts.

I knew this was someone's first attempt and she was happy with it. I told her--Your quilt has a very homey feeling. Like I would like to wrap up in it and read a good book.--I later found out that the quilter has parkinson's disease. What an effort she put forth in making this quilt! Not all quilts are up to Padukah standards but they are all special.

People can tell if your comment is genuine or not. You should find something positive to say and leave negative comments for when someone asks for constructive criticism.
|
I absolutely agree with those that lean towards some sort of complimentary comment. If I put my heart and soul into a piece and thought it was good enough to show/display, I would be heartbroken if someone was negative about it. It might even discourage me from doing any more quilting. You can always find something nice to say if you think about it. And we all need 'at a boys' from time to time.

My sister taught my nephew to say, "That is very interesting" when he didn't care for something. I use that sometimes. Trouble is, everytime my nephew says it, we turn to my sister and ask, "Does he like it or not?"

if god judged each person by perfectionist would be all be clones judge not least we be judged each person has there ability do to things and we learn by doing so ladies be nice this could be any one of us

Always be supportive. Quilting is a form of expression , not a test. People will always have different skill levels and different resources.
