BTW, my new machine weighs about 30# and I tried it on one of those 4' folding tables but it wasn't stable enough. I think we're leaning towards the laminate counters :) I'm going to Home Depot this weekend to look at them.

Have you considered getting two short filing cabinets and a hollow core door (across them) to make a new table? Doors are usually around 6 feet and the cabinets would give you more storage. Just a thought.

I like this thought - though hubby is a carpenter! I sew on my kitchen table and cut on my island.

I got a Babylock Espire - "Quilla" and I wish I had a little more time to sew on her right now.

I have:

Brother 1500s (won this one)
Singer Featherweight (was given this one)
Singer 15 90 in cabinet (found in great aunt's house)
Singer 301 (was given this one)
Two Janome Gem Golds (bought one for classes, DD bought one used it once, left it here)
Singer Quantum (bought before I started quilting)

I have been looking on Craigslist and noticed many sewing table /cabinet set ups from about $45 to $300. Some even come with a machine or supplies. It might be some thing to look into. That tip is for poor sahm too. When kids are out you can close some of them up and hide your stuff.

My daughter did that and she got the (gray) filing cabinets at a thrift shop for $4 each. They worked just fine, the drawers slid out perfectly. They were dusty and marked on, but she cleaned them with Greased Lightening and they are now spotless. The drawers make a nice place to keep all her patterns and odds and ends. I love the whole idea! 8-)

HI, i am also from NW Pa, south of Erie. I have an old 6' banquet table i sew on, nice and high, lots of space to pile stuff lol. Welcome to the board, glad u joined us.

I think it's so interesting that there are so many "variations" used for sewing and I guess if it works for you that's all that matters. I am very unproductive if I am not organized or if I'm "crowded".....just another side of my OCD...LOL

thequilterslink: I am also south of Erie about 35 miles! Maybe we're "neighbors" and don't even know it...LOL

I forgot to add to my post I have three long tables in a T shape I have four machines set up on. I love having a machine all set up for different sewing projects. I also have the SewEasy portable table to set up anywhere.
