If you don't like working on washed fabrics, leave it alone and make your project. I never prewash my fabrics because I don't like working on the washed fabrics. And I refuse to reiron everything and starch it just so I can say I washed it first. Never had a problem with my fabrics shrinking or the colors running in over 16 years.

For me it depends on the finished look that I want. If I want the top to shrink a little for that homey quilt look, I don't wash, If I want it to lay flat after being washed, I prewash. Lots of different opinions on this one

That's a very good point!

At my quilt guild we have to wash our fabric before we make a block.
But this quilt will be for me and I do like working with unwashed fabric.
I just don't know which is the best way.

I have never worked with a kit before but I prewash,

I have never used a kit and probably won't because I have to wash all fabric to remove the smells. I would not want to wash strips or squares because of the raveling. I do wash fat quarters, though. Really your choice.

I would not wash. Takes all the sizeing out.

I do not pre wash. Of course, I am very new to this.

I wash then starch all my fabric before I start cutting.

The only time a prewash is when I'm using red prints (red is notorious for running), and I did run across a dark blue which faded badly once. Cut a snippet of any intense color you're going to use and soak it in a basin of water for a few minutes. Take it out and dip a glass full of the water. If there's any sign of color in it, wash!
