What have you made from a wedding dress?

I have been asked to make a wallhanging or small quilt from a wedding dress. I know I have seen things like this here on the Board but for the life of me I can't bring anything up on the search feature. If you know some thread names or have made something from a wedding dress would you let me know. Thanks for your help.

We've made Christmas stockings & included a label telling the "history" of the dress.

I have been wanting to make a Christmas tree skirt with mine. I would love to see pictures of things that people have done.

I suggested to my daughter several years ago that she have a christening gown made out of her very beautiful wedding dress. She did just that, and has had all of her children (5) baptized in it. I had another thought when my last grandchild was baptized and that is a ribbon sewn inside with the names of each child written on it along with their date of baptism.

Now that is a fantastic idea, what a wonderful thing to do.

My mother was a very tiny woman, 5'4 and 95 pounds. I didn't get the thin genes. When I was in grade 5, I needed a costume to be an angel in the school Christmas play. I wore my Mother's dress, which she had embellished with tinsel and wings. Her theory was that it was the only time in my life that it would have fit me. (She was right). She also used some left over material from the dress to make the christening gown that me and my brother were baptized in.

I used the fabric and trimmings from a wedding dress to make 6" Victorian Crazy Patch blocks. It was for a 25th Anniversary so I used silver metalic thread to do decorative stitches along the seam lines and the pearl beads for additional decoration. Made a small wallhanging and the foks had it framed. I used all the fabric from the original dress - tulle overlay, lace, the undergarment fabric as well as the basic dress. I pieced it on paper and then cut the paper away.....in the Victorian Crazy Patch type.

Harriet made this beautiful satin quilt. It could have been made from a wedding dress. Just gorgeous!
