It looks just like my Bernina 4 thread serger. It's a treasure!

MadP 09-10-2011 05:12 AM

I do not believe it is an embroidery machine, I think it is an older serger.

Janet My 09-10-2011 05:13 AM

Looks like a serger to me too.

missbelle 09-10-2011 05:15 AM

I think it is an older model possibly 20 yrs. old 4 thread serger with the thread holder missing. You can buy a thread holder off ebay or possibly find some gadgets to make a thread holder. The sergers with the thread adjusting knobs work great, I think. If it has several places with small eyes to thread, three routes with bent hooks for each plus the needle, under the flap that opens on the front where the knife is located , it most likely is a serger. Kinda hard to thread in the right places to work properly, but once done,
take different colored permanent markers and mark the thread routes for the different spools. missbelle

I do not have this item locally. I subscribe to auctionzip.com and go to auctions in various towns/states and found this at a GA one (Douglas) that will be held on Sept. 17th next Saturday.

Here is the link to the photo's of what they will have and there are a couple of Berndina Sewing machines along with this item.

http://www.auctionzip.com/cgi-bin/ph...zip=31313&kwd=

You will have to scroll down some to see it along with the sewing machines, buttons, and such.

Great site - thanks for the info! There's a Bernina 1130 there - the first Bernina electronic machine ca 1988. The guy who services my 1130 tries to get me to sell it to him and says it's a much sought after machine in the used machine marketplace. I'm not selling it!

Suppose it could still be some type of serger but have never seen a serger that has that flat base like that.

Its a serger, that's how the older ones look. No way now how is it an embroidery machine. The dials you see are for adjusting the tension of each thread.

mpspeedy 09-10-2011 05:38 AM

Its definately a serger. The flat place in the back is for the 4 spools of thread to sit on. I use my serger almost everytime I sew anything. When I make my Linus quilts I start with a pillowcase like structure that includes the back, front and batting. I serge the three sides together and then turn it and quilt it on the right side.

terrt 09-10-2011 05:53 AM

It is a serger, one of the first to hit the home market. Lots of changes since this one has made its entry....

bonnyh 09-10-2011 05:59 AM

I agree with everyone else. Definitely looks like a serger.

By the way, did you know you have a twin in Washington state. You look exactly like a women in our guild.

Mickie612 09-10-2011 06:26 AM

It looks like my old serger, I never did like it.

malindaann 09-10-2011 06:42 AM

looks like my bernina serger from the 80's. I used to use it a lot for quick costumes for my son and the roller attachment makes beautiful handkerchiefs, napkins, tablecloths, and baby clothes

DonnaR 09-10-2011 06:58 AM

It is a Bernette Serger. I have one just like it. It is about 20 years old and is used to sew and overcast the edges of fabric. I used it more when I was sewing clothes. But you can use it to make quilts. Especially row quilts.

Annz 09-10-2011 06:58 AM

It has the look of a serger. Other than that I don't know.

GABBYABBY 09-10-2011 06:59 AM

It is a serger.

sweetsie 09-10-2011 07:06 AM

Could it be a blind hemmer?

jennifer winters 09-10-2011 07:07 AM

looks like a 4 spool machine like a serge/.

ywoodruff5 09-10-2011 07:16 AM

Is definitely an older 4-thread serger.

traumaRN 09-10-2011 07:18 AM

Its an old serger. Mine is about 20 yrs old and looks very similar. What's the brand?

ewecansew 09-10-2011 07:32 AM

It is a serger. There could be a small tray-like part that fits to the right of the bed extension to catch the clippings that are cut off when using the serger. It does not take the place of a regular sewing machine, but makes finishing the seams so much easier. I always use mine for making pillow cases (no french seams).

Mona Lisa 2011 09-10-2011 07:45 AM

google the name and number..........

Stitchit123 09-10-2011 07:51 AM

Its a serger -I saw one like it on E-Bay they want big bucks for sergers

jean1234 09-10-2011 08:11 AM

 It looks like a serger to me too...

merridancer 09-10-2011 08:32 AM

Yup, It is a Bernette Serger. I have one just like it and yes I bought mine about 26 years ago. Best machine in my lot of 6 sewing machines.

Debbie C 09-10-2011 08:35 AM

I love the cut-out in the table for it!! I believe this is a serger.

katrbee 09-10-2011 09:19 AM

I have that machine. It is one of the best old fashioned sergers around. I still use it occasionally when making clothing or table toppers that will get washed all the time. I got it in about 1980, through a stretch and sew store in the DC area and taught classes for them for about two years to pay it off. And I had it serviced once and it still runs like a charm

I bought mine at a stretch and sew store in the DC area too! I took a lot of classes at a store in Springfield, Va - loved that store! I love the machine too!

joann hussey 09-10-2011 09:53 AM

looks like a serger, where did you get it?

RAChhap 09-10-2011 11:07 AM

I'm pretty sure it is a Bernette 234 an early serger from Bernina, as it looks just like the one I have been using for abot 20 years. It still serges like a charm, and with the optional foot, does a nice rolled hem. The only problem I have ever had it that they are very hard to thread and you have to get it threaded exactly. The instruction book is not that great but if there is a Bernina dealer near you maybe they would help you out(--but probably would want to sell you a new fancy one!).
If you have no use for it there are lots of charity sewing groups that would probably be happy to have it.

lil-g-ma 09-10-2011 11:20 AM

This is a great serger---Bernette 300 series--definitely not an embroidery machine....go to a Bernina sales rep. and they can order the manual (or online) for help. Good serger, the thread holders lift up...new sergers are expensive, usually over $800. and more...have had mine for over 12 years. Keep it clean, dust free. Enjoy....

Alondra 09-10-2011 11:41 AM

Moi aussi.

deb8746 09-10-2011 12:08 PM

mine also

twixbar 09-10-2011 12:10 PM

Looks like some kind of serger

Janis 09-10-2011 12:55 PM

I agree that it is a serger. I bought an old one at a yard sale this summer for $30.00. Mine works great but it is tricky to thread. I'm glad that I got the book with mine as it's probably a 'no name' one and I can't find anything about it on the net. Mine is probably too old/or off brand to be on the net now. I think it just might have been made before computers were so popular, or something like that.
Are you going to get it? What are they asking for it? Just curious.

kittiebug 09-10-2011 01:03 PM

Well you got your self a Serger.

amyjo 09-10-2011 01:41 PM

it is up for auction on the 17th of Sept. she put a link on here so people could go see it. there are some other Berninas on the sale also.

Iggys Mom 09-10-2011 01:43 PM

Could it be a blind hemmer

Ethan'snana 09-10-2011 01:55 PM

I believe it is a serger.

shelrox 09-10-2011 02:05 PM

looks like an older baby lock serger, some of the sergers had the long table behind them. It might even be a lower class model of a commercial one.

It's definitely a serger. Looks like the Bernette I used to have.
