Looks like a serger to me. ;-)

sueisallaboutquilts 09-09-2011 05:21 AM

That was my first thought.

MzMcKee 09-09-2011 05:21 AM

The four dials and the fabric cutter on the foot tell me its a serger.

wuv2quilt 09-09-2011 05:24 AM

Looks like a serger to me too....keep us posted.

mannem 09-09-2011 05:32 AM

Is this a prize puzzle?

Lori S 09-09-2011 05:35 AM

Its a four thread serger. Each of the dials is for the tension of each thread. I am not seeing the thread stand for the four cones of thread , ( they may just not be in the photo).
Great little machines when they work properly. They stitch , trim and overcast all in one step. They create a very tidy seam.

jdiane318 09-09-2011 05:35 AM

Looks like a serger to me and from the other responses, will be surprised if it isn't.

sewwhat85 09-09-2011 05:43 AM

serger

clsurz 09-09-2011 05:47 AM

I thought a serger or embroidery machine for businesses. Look at the flat base that extends to the back though have never seen that on a serger.

I just noticed at bottom right of photo a case top it looks like. Can anyone make out what it says on it? Wonder if it the case top for this machine?

clsurz 09-09-2011 06:13 AM

The more I look at this thing I'm thinking it's an embroidery machine because of the flat base going to the back of it. The machine is set sideways where we see only the dies but that flat base looks very much like what you would find on an embroidery machine if you turned it facing us and the dials be on the side.

Suppose it could still be some type of serger but have never seen a serger that has that flat base like that.

quiltmouse 09-09-2011 06:18 AM

hasvana? (sp!)

bookworm 09-09-2011 06:30 AM

Looks like a serger. An old one. Mine looks similar.

On second thought. How many thread spools does it take at once?

wvdek 09-09-2011 06:37 AM

I agree with Lori. It appears to be an older model. I definitely do not believe it is an embroidery machine.

amyjo 09-09-2011 06:47 AM

could be ablind stitch hemmer or tacker. not a serger I have tbree and it is not a serger. look at machines on singer's website.

marcialb 09-09-2011 06:50 AM

Have you Googled the model number? It should be located on the machine somewhere and you should get a response telling you what it is.

Just a thought,
Marcia

featherweight 09-09-2011 07:04 AM

Well it is Not an embroidery machine.

amyjo 09-09-2011 07:13 AM

looked up industrial sewing machines and it looks like it could be an older coverlock machine look up industrial machines get all kinds of the brand names. take your serial number and google it.

jljack 09-09-2011 09:33 AM

An old serger.

mltquilt 09-09-2011 10:02 AM

Looks like a serger but guess it could be a coverlock machine.

it looks like "Huskvarna". i have a viking and the case and color logo look like that. do you own this machine, or are thinking of buying it?

sweetpea 09-09-2011 12:09 PM

it will fun to find out just what it is. keep us posted.

butterflywing 09-09-2011 12:15 PM

i just googled embroidery machines ONLY and sergers and none of them looked like that on the side, regardless of who made them.

you seem to have a mystery machine.

i just zoomed in on the case, and maybe it doesn't say huskqvarna. the lettering seems too long. it still doesn't look like anything. it looks mostly like a serger, but where do the thread cones go?

where did you see this?

SMR 09-09-2011 12:28 PM

I vote for older serger. I don't think an embriodery machine would have a cutter on it.

sarahconner 09-09-2011 12:28 PM

serger

luvspaper 09-09-2011 04:18 PM

My old babylock serger extends out the back like that....and the front bottom side looks exactly like that...it's a door that opens for threading the 4 spools through all the spots in the machine.

I vote for an old serger (and mine is over 15 years old I think)

deedum 09-09-2011 07:51 PM

It sure looks like a serger to me! An older model, but I bet it is a dandy! My neighbor has several and she uses them all the time. A real workhorse! At least that is my opinion!

It's definitely a serger, but I don't see the spindles that hold the threads in the back. Mine looks very similar. I got mine at least 20 years ago - it's a Toyota, believe it or not, and I still use it when I'm working on clothes and such.

ube quilting 09-10-2011 04:11 AM

Eleanor Burns pieces on a serger all the time in her videos.

It looks like a serger to me. Can you tell us what it says on the plate on the front. It appears to be a brand name or a model. It does however appear to be one of the first home sergers that came on the market about 30 years ago but on the other hand it could be a blind hemmer.

Johanna Fritz 09-10-2011 04:21 AM

Serger, I think. Surely it has a name or model somewhere that you can Google search. I am sure you will find the answer with a little effort.

That is a 4-thread serger. Each knob controls the tension of one of the threads. I cannot make out the brand, but it looks like an older Bernina, 300 or 400 series .... is there a name on it ? Any good sewiong store will have a technician who can bring this cutie back to a productive life. :-D

ksea 09-10-2011 04:38 AM

It sure looks like a serger to me!

Annette Searcy 09-10-2011 04:38 AM

I don't think its a serger. The box looks like a cigar box

miriam 09-10-2011 04:41 AM

throw the thing through a window - it's what you do with those when you have to thread them anyway...

Judy Burnett 09-10-2011 04:45 AM

I think it is a Hemmer.....that ladies that altered clothing used. Someone donated one to my sewing group and no one can figure it out ...good luck. I think I bought the manual on line . Although it looks like a newer kind of a machine....mine looked just like that. It now sits in someone else's closet wondering what to do with it. good luck

katlady3 09-10-2011 04:46 AM

It is a serger
