Yup, It is a Bernette Serger. I have one just like it and yes I bought mine about 26 years ago. Best machine in my lot of 6 sewing machines.

I love the cut-out in the table for it!! I believe this is a serger.

I have that machine. It is one of the best old fashioned sergers around. I still use it occasionally when making clothing or table toppers that will get washed all the time. I got it in about 1980, through a stretch and sew store in the DC area and taught classes for them for about two years to pay it off. And I had it serviced once and it still runs like a charm

I bought mine at a stretch and sew store in the DC area too! I took a lot of classes at a store in Springfield, Va - loved that store! I love the machine too!

looks like a serger, where did you get it?

RAChhap 09-10-2011 11:07 AM

I'm pretty sure it is a Bernette 234 an early serger from Bernina, as it looks just like the one I have been using for abot 20 years. It still serges like a charm, and with the optional foot, does a nice rolled hem. The only problem I have ever had it that they are very hard to thread and you have to get it threaded exactly. The instruction book is not that great but if there is a Bernina dealer near you maybe they would help you out(--but probably would want to sell you a new fancy one!).
If you have no use for it there are lots of charity sewing groups that would probably be happy to have it.

This is a great serger---Bernette 300 series--definitely not an embroidery machine....go to a Bernina sales rep. and they can order the manual (or online) for help. Good serger, the thread holders lift up...new sergers are expensive, usually over $800. and more...have had mine for over 12 years. Keep it clean, dust free. Enjoy....
