Some of you know that I taught my 84 years young mom to quilt. Her hands are not cooperating with her much any more, so she hasn't been doing too much sewing lately. She is now almost 87 years young.

I called her this a.m. to ask what she was doing, and basically check up on her.

Her answer: "Making mug rugs"! I didn't even know she knew what mug rugs were!!! LOL

I just love her!!!

erstan947 07-01-2011 12:30 PM

Thanks, Crafty. I'll print out some of those for her to see. She is not a member here...in fact, she refuses to even try using a computer. So we print pictures, cute or inspirational e-mails, etc. to bring to her.

jillnjo 07-01-2011 01:23 PM

My mom is just the same as yours! A young 89 and still quilting although her eyesight is not real good and it bothers her to think things don't look like they used to!

QuiltE 07-01-2011 01:50 PM

Good for her and good for you! My mama is 92 and she'd rather be tortured than sew, but give her a hoe and set her in the garden and she's good to go. Splits her own kindling, too!

ladyshuffler 07-01-2011 04:44 PM

Mothers I find are always one step ahead....you just roved that

quiltaroni 07-02-2011 04:46 AM

Age does not take away ambition, just some restrictions on body part cooperation!

How fun is THAT! You're a good daughter to teach your mom a skill that she likes and keeps her engaged in life.

What a great way to keep her mentally and physically active! I will try the mug rug idea out on my 84 year old mother. Must make them feel important :-D

That is wonderful at 84 is still learning, I hope I can do that. We have a lady in our "Gathering" that is 103 and Still embroiders and quilts. I use her as my guide when I think I don't feel well I tell myself that "little Mama would do it.

Lynneander 07-02-2011 08:46 AM

Love it! Hope I can be as active at your Mom's age!

My loving mom is 85 and sewed all her life[with 6 kids: myself and 5 boys] but we just found out she was admitted to Hospice[in Mi.] and we live in SC. Will go see her soon. I will hate the thoughts of her machine running all the time making things for us, G. kids and GG. kids. from babies on. Love you mom~!~~~ Prayers are WELCOME too! Thanks!!

sylvia77 07-02-2011 09:40 AM
