What is the new "must make" pattern?

I noticed for a while everyone was making Bow Tuck purses, mug rugs, 1600" jelly roll quilts. What is the newest fad/pattern that should be put on the top of my ever-growing bucket list? I hope it is quick and easy.

lfstamper 03-01-2012 06:18 PM

Great question. Following along to see the latest.

jaciqltznok 03-01-2012 06:23 PM

watching cuz nothing comes to mind!

I did a couple of the easy square casserole carriers and I am currently intrigued by the cat bed posted yesterday. I am going to go to my LQS for some fleece soon. I was blown away by the Diamond Mine pattern posted this week also. I added it to my bucket list.

Whigrose 03-01-2012 06:45 PM

~giggle~, well, for me it seems to be any one but the one I should be working on. ~giggle~

No help at all, was I?

best,

I just made a couple of coupon caddies that get velcroed (sp) to the shopping cart handle-I made pockets-1 for your coupon organizer, 1 for the coupons you are going to use at checkout, one for your cell phone, and one for a pen to mark your list. Anyway, saw it on-line on one of the many free sewing newsletters I get and decided to try it. It was really easy, and really handy! I will try to post a photo in the next day or so. I am also going to make a purse from a pair of my DS jeans. Think I will see if they sell with my purses at some craft fair I hope to find. My next quilt will be my Whitework Sampler, lots of applique and I am really looking forward to doing that!

For my guild it's the magic pillowcases! They are addictive and fun. Who doesn't like a pretty and awesome personal pillowcase!

Painiacs 03-01-2012 07:13 PM

I'm making cross cross coasters!! Fun and addicting! Good way to use up scraps!!

Handcraftsbyjen 03-01-2012 07:15 PM

A lot of people are making Candice bags and e-reader/tablet covers.

I'm going to be trying my hand at making a quilted story book for my grand niece/ nephew that will be born this summer. Never made one beofre but anxious to see if I can do it.

Vanuatu Jill 03-01-2012 07:29 PM

I need to amend my post-I forgot the patterns Cuppi made me of my dogs! I am making a Doxy for my sister, a Boxer for my DS, and one for me of my precious Rocky! I hope mine come out even close to as nice as Cuppi's! Those will be my next "must makes"!

patchsamkim 03-01-2012 07:48 PM

At this time my "must make" projects are to finish projects I already have started...have way too many ufo's and working at finishing some before I even think about starting something new. That said, I do love making table runners...a great size project...I finish them. Large quilts I get the tops done, and they get set aside.

I needed a break from quilting and decided to use my left-over sheeting to make rag rugs.
I wound up going to the Thrift store and bought 5 flat sheets (including 2 King and 1 Queen size)
and have been having a great time cutting up sheets. No,I don't tear them because of the fuzz that goes up my nose.
But i have had a grand time stitching the l-o-n-g strips together and rolling into balls.
Making rag rugs were the thing to do in years gone by.....a way to us up old clothing and worn sheets.
Getting back to basics is what I call it. Waste not - want not. So the box is about empty and i have some new rugs.

June in Cincinnati

What are the magic pillowcases? This term is new tome.

joysewer 03-01-2012 08:13 PM

I think table toppers are real popular right now...especially the one that you use the 60 degree ruler on.

sewellie 03-01-2012 08:24 PM

Mine is to finish a cover for my daughter's Kindle fire and SIL's netbook cover. Then I want to make some cathederal pin cushions that luvstoquilt posted.

QuiltingCrazie 03-01-2012 08:37 PM

Only thing that come to my mind is the twister quilts they seem to be all over. I fell in love with the shamrock and cactus. I'm going to make a long overdue NM quilt...

#1 piecemaker you'll do great with the story book. I made a couple when I ran a daycare at home and they are so easy and fast!! I still have mine, didn't realize it til the other day when I was looking at our library downstairs.

also called the HOTDOG pillowcase...I don't care for this method because the Flange ends up upside down..drives me nuts! SO, I either french seam, serge or just leave it with pinked edges! Depends on if it is for sale or family!

looks like a variation on the traditional "castle wall block" pretty easy to do and they just did each block in a different color way!
In EQ7 it is under the Wheels section. I just modified it like hers.

The flange part on the pillowcases can be turned either way and sewn that way. At least what I call the flange. I like it facing the open end of the slip. I do a french seam: 1/4" seam then trim to 1/8" the 1/4" seam to enclose. I like having the flange ends finished and not part of the seam.

here is the "swoon" block done with all HST's like she did it! I sorta like this version/color way.

I'm into the Lil' Twisters. I made some for Valentine's Day, some mug rugs for friends, Christmas wreaths. I just can't get enough of them.

sandy l 03-02-2012 04:17 AM

What are criss-cross coasters? Pics, please. Thanks

AnnT 03-02-2012 04:20 AM

I'm making several hexagon table toppers for church dinners. I love the way they're turning out altho I'm sorry about one of the center hexagon color choices...oh well, just because I don't care for it, doesn't mean it still won't look good!

damaquilts 03-02-2012 04:26 AM

Love the pillow cases. So easy and quick.

The trend I'm seeing more than anything is people getting UFOs finished instead of starting new projects. I've even quit going to workshops because every workshop creates a new UFO I don't have time to finish!!

anndr 03-02-2012 04:46 AM

Where can I find the Diamond Mine pattern? I also loved this quilt.

My 2 big projects are the Sylvias Bridal Sampler and I want to do the BOM on Persimmon quilts. I'm in no hurry so will work on these in my leisure and play in between with some smaller things. There was a bag I liked called Bumble Bee Bliss.

AprilG 03-02-2012 05:07 AM

I went to a quilt show 2 weeks ago and the trend seemed to be "retro". A lot of Sunbonnet Sue and Grandma's Garden type quilts. Really beautiful. Also the Mariner's Compass and a lot of Stars (or anything with "points"). And don't forget the "scenic" quilts. The ones that make a really lovely picture. (Looks like a really lovely lot of work to me!) I am working on "Winter Stars" from Fons and Porter. It is easy (I am a beginner) and quite pretty.

pinkberrykay 03-02-2012 05:18 AM

I love using the twister tool/primitive tool. HandcraftsbyJen has some gorgeous patterns for these tools. I look forward to what she has coming out in the next couple of months. I am headed to a Quilt Retreat this weekend and I will be working on her Shamrock Twister wall hanging while I am there.

craftymatt2 03-02-2012 05:45 AM

I am into the table topper and runners faze, i am also doing pincushions, and i love the pillow cases, i have been making sets of the pillow cases for my grandsons for each one of the holidays, they love them. i found some Happy Birthday fabric, so they are also getting a pillowcase made with that and a Happy Birthday Runner for the table. So many ideas and so little time.

Oh please do post pics of your coupon caddie. I want to make one. Bought one but it's too big for my purse.

Pieces2 03-02-2012 06:08 AM

I would like to see more charity quilts made. We have stashes and plenty of scraps. Lets use up some of those scraps we all have. There are so many organizations that can use quilts.

Chicca 03-02-2012 06:14 AM

I came across information on making Sweatshirt Jackets. It seemed to be a top do list for quite a few people awhile back....I just missed it then. LOL. So that is my latest project craze.....

tildiemae 03-02-2012 06:16 AM

Last night I finished a diaper bag for our daughter and today I'll start t-shirt quilts...I have two to make!
