like the LEAST? For me it is washing and ironing fabric -- especially when I have allowed the unwashed fabric to build up to rediculous levels! I've spent most of the last week washing and ironing and I am now officially in an "I'm not buying anymore fabric for awhile" mode. So, what is your least favorite part of the quilting process?

On another note, it is great to be back to the Quilting Board. My computer has been 'down' while my DH completely wiped the hard drive and then reload everything in order to (hopefully) get rid of the virus that has been bugging me for months and months. He essentially made me a new computer!

gaigai 08-19-2010 09:18 PM

I hate the quilting part. I'm strictly a piecer. Like the song says, I don't quilt by hand or machine, I quilt by check! LOL

brenda21 08-19-2010 09:47 PM

LOVE piecing the best, not thrilled with the actual quilting part and HATE binding LOL :)

CoyoteQuilts 08-19-2010 09:55 PM

I don't really 'hate' any part of putting 'together' a quilt, BUT I will machine sew the binding every chance I get

RST 08-19-2010 10:03 PM

I do not enjoy the stretching, layering, sandwiching, basting chores.

Love design, love cutting, love piecing, grit my teeth through the sandwhich and baste stage, all to get to my most favorite part which is free motion quilting.

same here

donnajean 08-20-2010 02:44 AM

Crawling on the floor to pin the sandwich as I now have a tile floor.

Laura3 08-20-2010 02:57 AM

Same for me....I hate the pinning on the floor part...And I am not sure why I always get winded when I am doing it. Its not like its a work out or anything... It must be my attitude about it. I love all stages of the process except that.

Purrfect 08-20-2010 02:59 AM

Binding really drives me wild, it never seems to come out right.

This = me.

sewitseams 08-20-2010 03:25 AM

i don't "hate" any part of the process. sometimes if the quilt is bigger than a lap i have trouble quilting it on my machine, but other than that i love ... love ... love to do each step.

moonrise 08-20-2010 03:28 AM

I love piecing.

Quilting is okay but not quite as fun as piecing. I recently got a Juki on a Mini Penni frame. Before that, I hated quilting! LOL!

I hate putting the binding on, even though it's probably the easiest part. I've got a queen-sized quilt completely finished except for the dingdang binding!

lol - DITTO here!!

I really enjoy hand stitching the binding. I use tiny stitches (approx. 10-12 per inch). I find it very relaxing.
((ok so I'm odd ))

raptureready 08-20-2010 03:45 AM

I think I least like the "last half" part. Piecing or quilting the first half is exciting, challenging, fun. Then by the time I get to the second half I'm at the point of being bored with it and just want it to be done----at that's the part that's my favorite!

I think I like putting on the binding the best because I know it will be done soon.

Me too

granny216 08-20-2010 04:11 AM

The part I like least is there isn't enough time in a day to get very much done and I love the whole process but arthritis makes me have my quilts finished by machine. I am going to put a small wall hanging on a frame and see if I can do a few stitches at a time.

CarrieAnne 08-20-2010 04:40 AM

I think the sanwhiching is the hardest for me. I work on the floor, and after a while, it kills my knees! I need those pads that roofers use!

cjomomma 08-20-2010 04:48 AM

For me it's the washing and ironing. My favorite is the cutting, I could cut fabric all day long.

janRN 08-20-2010 04:52 AM

I don't like the quilting part.

I love piecing. I'm doing the Farmers Wife Sampler blocks and it's great-each block is a new challenge. This is my favorite thing to do. What am I going to do with all 100 blocks when they're done? I'll probably end up with 100 potholders because I won't want to quilt it!

maryb119 08-20-2010 04:53 AM

Adding a label is a chore for me. I always add one but for some reason, its a pain....

quiltbugs 08-20-2010 04:56 AM

Least favorite - - hands down, no doubt about it, handsewing the binding. Especially in the summer.

I'm also not crazy about cleaning up the mess I make, since I have to sew in the dining room. I wish I had a sewing room so I could just leave the mess & padlock the door everytime somebody was coming to visit.

Lynnejean 08-20-2010 04:57 AM

The part I hate the most is sometimes half way through a project I get bored and have to make myself finish.

Maksi 08-20-2010 05:06 AM

I don't like the sandwiching part on big quilts. I always use my floos to do so. My back, knies en everything else hurts for a week after sandwiching.

tortoisethreads 08-20-2010 05:17 AM

I also don't like the sandwiching part. I love binding them. It's strange but that seems to be the one part of quilting that I'm best at!

ToucanSam 08-20-2010 05:25 AM

Least favorite is the binding. Hate it.

sueisallaboutquilts 08-20-2010 05:30 AM

BASTING!!!!!!!!! UGH :D
LindaB- glad you're back!!!!!!!!! HUGS

ksea 08-20-2010 05:39 AM

I love the picking out pattern and fabric, I love love the peicing, and I don't mind the sanwiching, but I don't particullary like the quilting part. Maybe because I don't have a machine. Hate Hate binding.

Pinecone Quilts 08-20-2010 05:44 AM

You are my kind of quilter, since I quilt other folks' masterpieces.

Friendly Quilter 08-20-2010 05:47 AM

Because I am a Longarm quilter and domany customers quilts. When it come to mine I hate to quilt them. I have 15 quilts tops of my own to quilt at this moment.

Mariposa 08-20-2010 05:56 AM

I don't really dislike any of it. Sometimes the piecing of lotsa blocks with tons of pieces, well, I keep a smaller project near by in case i need a break! :)

great aunt jacqui 08-20-2010 05:58 AM

I do not like the quilting because I have to do it on my machine. No $ for professonal. No $ for my own equipment. so it is just me to finish. The rolling and moving a quilt around my dining room table with 2 pups running and playing beneath me is a chore. making mistakes and having to use that seam ripper is a chore. Good thing God did not make me perfect and that I know it.

Butterflyblue 08-20-2010 05:59 AM

Sometimes I dread the quilting, not because I don't like it, but because anything larger than a baby quilt is a little unwieldy for me on my home machine. Also I dread pinning the binding because I poke myself with pins a lot.

I do hate half-triangle squares, not making them but squaring them up, which I find very, very tedious. I think I prefer doing Lemoyne stars with set-in seams over the "Easy" lemoyne that uses HTS.

Deborah12687 08-20-2010 06:05 AM

I do not like putting on the binding because of the bulk of the fabric at that point and I always manage to mess it up and have to do some ripping out to fix it.

BKrenning 08-20-2010 06:16 AM

Before I got the quilting machine & frame, crawling around on the floor to tie or baste and I only did baby quilts back then. Then it was piecing the backings for larger quilts. I hate that! So I started buying extra wide fabric and used a few flat sheets to get over that hump. I think squaring up blocks is a pain now but a necessary one so I use the same method as I do when cutting--square a few and sew them together--maybe one row at a time. I cut blocks the same way. I like binding because that means the quilt is almost finished & I machine bind most of mine. I only hand stitched down to the back side on a few but that was ok, too since I would sit & watch tv with hubby while doing that chore. Wresting with large quilt backs & getting them loaded on the frame is probably might greatest dislike at this point.

Beth33 08-20-2010 06:19 AM

Hate strip binding, the center of quilt is three layers, then the edges are 7 layers, so fatter than the rest of quilt, and always looks funny to me. I can't seem to get it flat.

Twisted Quilter 08-20-2010 06:29 AM

Blocking.

Lori S 08-20-2010 07:01 AM

My world changed ..once I found longarm quilters! I absolutely hated trying to fit all that fabric, batting through my regular machine. I used to find the batting that had the least amount of quilting required just so I did not have to suffer as long through the quilting part. Using a big distanc inbetween quilting just did not seem to do the quilt justice. It made good piecing look .. sad!
I am happy to say I am a Dedicated Piecer, and love it.

quilterguy27 08-20-2010 07:22 AM

I like all of it. Not sure what I like the least, the whole process ends with a beautiful quilt that someone is going to snuggle in and love. Maybe that's the hardest part, giving it away. Hmmm, I kinda like that part too. I love the whole process. Maybe the quilting part only because it's the hardest, but I still love it.

I agree with that "last half" part! Main reason I like doing samplers!
