I'm hoping to finish piecing the blocks for a batik stained glass quilt (king size) that I started at a quilt retreat last month. I should be able to put the quilt top together tomorrow. Then I may embroider some things on it - dragonfly, butterfly, vines, flowers, etc.

Shelbie 10-27-2012 09:47 AM

I'm working on a quilt using the pattern Squared Inside and Out. It uses 2 1/2" strips and I'm stitching it in black, gray, red and white. This quilt would also make a great Scrappy so next time, I think I'll try it using 3 1/2" squares and rectangles and take all my fabrics from my scrap basket (it's not a little one either!)

I'm not sure but I'm sure glad it won't be Halloween. Between helping my daughter for Her first time make costumes and then me making things for my DGS's first Halloween party I'm exhausted. On my embroidery machine I made tic tac toe games with a spider on them and the game pieces were spider webs on them and the x and o. Then I made ghost that spell out Boo and then another set of ghost that was to represent her family, with a daddy, mommy, DB and baby sister ghost to hang up. I also made lollipop covers in the shape of a ghost, candy corn and a jackolantern. There were other things that I wanted to make but had no time. I've been working overtime and watching kids. So yesterday when my daughter came to drop of DGD and stated she found another decoration and she only had to print out so many black and white pictures to fit into the frames, I ignored her hint. When she came home she asked if I'd had time to print them out, I just said no. Now maybe when I get home after my 12hr shift I can finish up some of my projects that are growing.

I will be making 2 quilted baby bibs for my granddaughter.

SouthPStitches 10-27-2012 10:51 AM

Hand quilting one baby quilt top. Need to baste a second one. Sure hope the storm passes over all of us without too much problem. If we lose power, at least I will have something to work on during day light.

Putting the binding on a Halloween quilt, better late than never right!

Finished the piecing of my DSDs Christmas present quilt, made a list for the Chilford/Duxford Show this Friday (UK) and carried on with the blanket stitch on a Country Quilt whilst watching TV (Strictly Come Dancing) tonight.

I think I have had enough of Dr. Suess for a while... hoping to finish this one tomorrow. Here is my progress...String quilts are wonderful for scraps...

after reading about what your were doing today and all threads about scraps, I started by making a wide strip from my huge pile left over strips....then I cut that strip into strips., and sewed black strips inbetween, changing the direction of each strip set...then it still didn't looked that good, so I squared it up and cut four triangles and then changed their positions and resewed....I quilted it and made a zippered tote with the back having a pocket made from a leftover block from the quilt I made for Joann's contest (which I didn't win)...made a long, wide shoulder strap and added a left over scrap strip....done! I'll try to add pictures....The process, as always was the fun part!

donac 10-27-2012 04:01 PM

I didn't get any sewing done today. Had lunch with my college son. My back has been bothering me so I am just taking it easy. tomorrow is a quick trip to the grocery store after church and then I am home until Wed. Mine, Dh and ds's schools have all canceled for Monday and Tues. I will be sewing tomorrow and then if we lose power I have some hand quilting to do and some cutting I can do in the day light.

carolaug 10-27-2012 04:26 PM

Awesome!!! Fingers cross you will.

I just started Judy Niemeyer's Indian Summer quilt. I have 21 gorgeous batik fabrics to work with. It makes me happy just to be with such beautiful fabric. I am one happy woman.

gzuslivz 10-27-2012 05:10 PM

Had a headache all morning, so didn't get anything done.
This afternoon I crochet 2 flowers to put on boot cuffs that I'm making. Now I'm sewing the cuffs together.
Yesterday I finished my Christmas quilt.

I know it can be waiting for a storm..I lived in Massapequa when Gloria came thru..Now I live in FLA, which is supposed to be hurricane heaven, but as of yet, have not had a major storm hit where I live..(Thank God)..Be safe and prep enough hand work to gewt thru it all..will be thinking about you all that way

I'm working on a Christmas quilt. I bought a 1/2 yard bundle of metallic Christmas fabrics. Wasn't sure what to do with it. So, I decided to cut them into 2 1/2 in strips. I added three more from my stash. It's really different than anything I've done before. We'll see how it turns out.

Well, I didn't get through the quilting on my quilt top today as planned. I was searching for books and found all these pdf files... I thought I'd share them with you. They're all free patterns...

I was working on my number three granddaughters quilt today, cutting and thinking about design and border.

Boopster1 10-28-2012 01:34 AM

Today I will be working on finishing a quilt for my great nephew, a waist apron for me, a table runner that needs a new binding, a 4 year overdue friendship quilt for a good friend, and hopefully start measuring many quilt tops I've done over the years to determine backing sizes so I can finish them........Looking forward to seeing alot of pics on here, so get your cameras out. Happy quilting y'all.

miriam 10-28-2012 02:44 AM

I bought a pile of fabric at the Goodwill outlet. Quite a few blocks were cut (6 inch squares) So I've been cutting up small pieces into squares to make just a simple 9 patch. I have over 200 now. The grandkids came over and DGD saw the pile and asked if she could piece it. She has 4 younger siblings including an almost 1 year old - so for her to cut it out is a real mess. I'm thinking about letting her do the quilt. It will be just odd kinds of scrap material. Half of the blocks were already cut out so I just cut more the same. I think I'm going to give her enough to do 2 or 3 quilt squares every time I see her - that way if the little guys get into them it won't be a huge loss... Then maybe we can cut the blocks into DP3 if she is willing.

Been getting house in order and all the laundry done so I can spend the next few days finishing my DGD Mary's quilt. Also need to run off a few dolly quilts for my next Guild meeting. Now I have to hope Hurricane Sandys doesn't ruin my plans buy knocking the power out. May in Jersey

I can't wait to see how it comes out...don't forget to post a picture for us to see.

I want to quilt a customers quilt on my LA but I am afraid to plug her in because of the high wind gusts that may cause power surges. Makes me cranky. I live on the coast of Va. and we are holding our breaths.

Just Me... 10-28-2012 04:18 AM

I won't be working on anything for myself. I am longarming customer quilts for Christmas. They are always so fun, because you know you are working on an amazing gift that someone special will be getting on Christmas Day! Makes working those long hours worth it! :)

I am enclosing some of my searches. Maybe this will stir some of you to make one? Have a warm Sunday..not too warm here in Detroit!!

I'llFMQ a purple batik quilt. Due. Nov 20 for my daughters 40th birthday. Crocknpot the dinner and quilt while the games are on TV. How did a young person like ever come up with such an old kid?

purplefiend 10-28-2012 07:46 AM

I'm working on 2 skateboard quilt tops and to use up some scraps from the skateboards, a set of log cabin blocks. The skateboard block was originally in Quiltmaker magazine and it was modified a little. It's a great way to use up those funky large scale prints that you don't know what to do with.

The skateboard quilt top will look very much like this one: http://tinyurl.com/8wvz5on

I'm starting to PP the next fireworks quilt for 2013 challenge in Aug. Made from my go to colors of brights: orange, green, purple, yellow and black. I'm excited to get going on it.

catmcclure 10-28-2012 08:05 AM

I'm working on 8-point stars. I assist the local American Indian Center making regalia (dance shawls). After I make the stars in different tribal colors, we'll applique them on shawls. Not exactly quilting, but close enough, and the dancers seem to appreciate it.

One leason learnt...be sure to iron all seams when sewing the strips together...its does make a difference.

dEECA 10-28-2012 09:56 AM

I am not quilting today. I am working on 3 fabric doll houses for great granddaughters for Christmas. I am having so much fun doing these.

Taughtby Grandma 10-28-2012 11:26 AM

I put satin binding on a baby quilt I made for one of the ladies at work.

Elfi2 10-28-2012 01:08 PM

No quilting for me for a start today.... :( got to clean up my office desk :( looks such a mess - I always say "never again will I let it get that far...." and then.....My excuse: quilting is always on my mind!!! lalalala.... :) But THEN, when I'm finished with THAT chore, I will keep going with the quilt I'm making for my grand-son for Christmas, a quilt with horses and the "puss in the corner" pattern - I will end up calling it "horse in the centre" :)
You all stay safe over there in the States with that terrible storm looming over your heads!!!
Take care!!! Blessings!!!
