What quilting project will you be working on today?

I was searching the internet, looking at books, going through my fat qtrs, trying to decide what to make, when I noticed my pile of scraps from my very last project. I have decided to make a string block quilt, to clean out my mess, I may donate this one. I started cutting up my scraps and to my surprise there is quite a bit and once you cut them into 2 1/2 strips they are also more organised and easier to imaige a quilt being made from them. My husband said I really should do that when more of my scrap bins...they are becoming unruly. I was just going to cut them into shapes and strips, but so glad I have decided to use them right away. So happy quilting everyone...stay safe during the storm.

Am working to finish the top for a wedding present that's already a year late

mic-pa 10-27-2012 02:49 AM

think I will spend the day making a twister quilt. Yesteday I quilted three table topper in anticipation of hand sewing the binding on when the storm hits as we may not have electricity.

I have to work this weekend so won't be quilting much. Will be doing the binding on a customer's quilt this evening. Just finished a small wall hanging last night for my DD for her birthday.

My daughter requested placemats for Christmas, so that's what I'll be working on.

Arranging 42 different blocks to get ready for putting the sashing on. Next project already being thought of. Too many ideas and not enough time for them all. :)

nycquilter 10-27-2012 03:39 AM

I have been on a tear to get tops quilted! So, last night I picked the backing fabric for a wall-hanging (Pacific Rim's Halloween 2FAQ) and today I will be quilting it -- just as soon as I get off this board, I will start.

Probably nothing today because of football (go T Birds! :) ) but tomorrow after i batten down for the storm I am going to work on Cindi's quilt (COYOTEMAGIC) and a small project - if we don't lose power!!!

luana 10-27-2012 03:50 AM

Off to the state (Iowa) cross country meet. It's 32 degrees right now so I'll dress warm and cheer hard. Finished my Snoopy quilt last night and got it washed. Also will spend a some time thinking/praying for all of you east coast quilters.

ArtsyOne 10-27-2012 03:59 AM

I'm hitting the local fabric warehouse and then I will, I will, I will finally start the FMQ on a quilt on which I've been working for three months. Maybe.

nclauri 10-27-2012 04:00 AM

I am going to start quilting a BOM quilt.

happyquiltmom 10-27-2012 04:04 AM

Am working at the quilt shop today, as the boss is away. I probably won't get anything done at home, but am working on a Hopscotch quilt at the shop.

JenelTX 10-27-2012 04:06 AM

Love scrappy quilts! I hope you'll post a picture when you're done!

I'll be working on quilting a quilt I'm making for my adult stepson. It's going to be his Christmas present, but I just found out he's going to come visit us (with his new girlfriend! yay!), so my deadline is sooner than I thought.

barri1 10-27-2012 04:13 AM

I'm hoping to reiron and resew the sashing to reconect my QAYG that I took apart, and squared two weeks ago. Before that I have to go food shopping for the storm, and vaccuum under everything, and hit all the corners.. It seems that my buddy wouldn't get the ball under the armoire, as he hit a troop of dust bunnies, and thought they were attacking him. He stood there, and barked at the armoire until I got up to see the problem.. It was pretty bad. He wasn't even partially to blame, as he doesn't shed, and there was no dog hair.. Ughhhh

margee 10-27-2012 04:41 AM

I'm finishing a baby quilt for a shower. Doing the FMQ. Not as good as I'd like but still will be pretty, I hope.

I love using 2.5 strips and it seems there are endless quilts to be made using them! Not to mention scrappy binding. I've got three UFOs in the binding stage, two that will be machine sewn and one that I'm 50% done with the handsewing. My dd, boyfriend and grand cats are coming for the weekend so looking forward to that.

patsynel 10-27-2012 04:51 AM

I will be going to a birthday party so I will enough wine in me to face that dreaded Bargello. Tomorrow is storm preparation be aide every single weather report has the storm going directly at us. So sometimes between now and tomorrow I will check my treadle to make sure it is up to spec.

ranger 10-27-2012 05:09 AM

I will be quilting my D9P on my small domestic machine. The air around here will be blue today!

117becca 10-27-2012 05:26 AM

I am going to get out here in a bit to run errands....it's supposed to rain, and i want to get out and back before that happens. It actually looks cold because it's cloudy and windy out. I'm working on finishing this Cars quilt for a friend. I can't wait to finish it because I am working on a quilt for a friend of mine..It's gonna be sooo purty!! I'm about 1/4 of the way thru piecing the blocks.

mhansen6 10-27-2012 05:31 AM

I am going to a progressive sale at a LQS this morning. The first hour everything in the store is 30% off. So with half the quilting community in Central Oregon I will be there.

Then I am going to make a Princess quilted bag for my granddaughter to match the Princess quilt and pillowcases that I made for her for her birthday next month. It is suppose to rain all weekend. So NASCAR and sewing.

franc36 10-27-2012 06:00 AM

I am working on an "Alternating Squares" quilt top using Christmas fabrics. My goal is to finish piecing all of the blocks and to get at least 5 rows sewn together. That is probably an ambitious goal.

Luv Quilts and Cats 10-27-2012 06:14 AM

I am going to a 3-day quilt retreat with 5 of my quilting buddies next weekend. So I am doing cutting this weekend so I can put a top together on a UFO, and look at another UFO to see if I can get it ready to put together. We are also all making a holiday quilt using 40 2.5 inch x length of fabric strips. This is my second retreat. We had a retreat earlier in April and it was a blast. We rent a house in York, Maine, withing walking distance to the beach. Although. last time we didn't get to the beach! LOL! But we did get to Marden's, a chain store in Maine that sells quality quilting fabric at a very discounted price. Always fun to go there!

Jill_in_Texas 10-27-2012 06:15 AM

I am working on a Christmas quilt for our living room - I realized a while back that I make quilts for people and give them away, but I've not made any to keep! I mean, who does that?! Apparently me. So I was at my mom's LQS a couple of months ago and found this Christmas charm pack that I loved - got two of them, a couple yards of the cream that goes along with it, and a panel.

Also, I have to sandwich the quilt I've made for DH because he keeps harassing me about getting it done before it gets cold here. LOL

Oh, and I need to do homework for a class I'm taking, and paint the kitchen. Just a nice relaxing weekend! ;)

sandy l 10-27-2012 06:19 AM

I'll be cutting the squares from FQ's and flannel for rag quilts for my DB and wife for Christmas.

I will be starting to cut a pattern called Something Blue from a McCall's magazine. I have made this before but want to use a beige tonal and a fabric that has a dark background with a vine running through it. This is the one I have done before.

Buckeye Rose 10-27-2012 07:10 AM

I won't get much quilting done today....lots of running to do....but am working on a customer quilt and have only two borders yet to add....then it is sandwiching and quilting....will be so glad to get this one done and out of my face....it's all solids, so every teensy error shows, which will make my quilting on DSM a nightmare!....almost forgot!....there is a quilt show in town that I want to see....maybe tomorrow!

Neesie 10-27-2012 08:08 AM

I've finished all of my quilt WIPs, so am trying to decide what to start next. Really need to use some of my stash.

Some time ago, I gathered up a wonderful collection of fabrics (old-fashioned assortment), to go together, but haven't yet decided upon the pattern. This one will be for myself, so there's no hurry . . . but it'd be nice to at least make up my mind and start something!

fien777 10-27-2012 08:11 AM

I'm working on the christmasquilt I wanted to make three years ago......now finally it had to be done.
It's really fun working on it

Christine- 10-27-2012 08:13 AM

I love cold, rainy weekends! I'm in my studio today, practicing stitches on my Tin Lizzie. I have 5 quilts that need quilting, 2 are tops I bought online to simply practice on. (I bought the Tin Lizzie last April). I plan on doing one today and one tomorrow. So it's practice, practice, practice for me today!

inspectorcmm 10-27-2012 08:23 AM

I too found cutting stash into strips. I can sew these strips together and then cut these strips across the seams. I can then sew these strips into blocks and have various quilts I can make with the blocks.

crafty pat 10-27-2012 08:40 AM

I will start cutting out a baby quilt for a friend. I hope to get it all ready to start sewing Monday.

Debbie C 10-27-2012 08:52 AM

I'm on Long Island's south shore and just finishing up the last bits of preparation for Hurricane Sandy. I'm going to spend my alone time (my husband works for the power company and has been ordered to work out east for the duration) manning the generator and French drain pumps if we lose power, but I'm also going to be cutting fabrics for a couple of Christmas gifts. Have to keep myself busy during this stressful pre-storm time or I'll go batty!!

pollyjvan9 10-27-2012 09:17 AM

I have been working very hard on quilts to take to two craft show. I had so many UFOs and quilts stacked up I decided to try to sell some of them. I haven't counted how many I have ready except for the labels, so that is what I am starting today. The 1st craft show is Nov 9th so I should have plenty of time. I am so ready to start a "new" project, not a UFO!

margecam52 10-27-2012 09:19 AM

I just finished the top for one of seven baby quilts I need to get done. Today though...hubby will help me move a lot of stuff from upstairs to the basement...need to make more room to sew up here.

ShabbyTabby 10-27-2012 09:36 AM

Cutting, cutting, cutting. I have 160 blocks to cut for a quilt for my granddaughter for her birthday. She wanted a "girly" quilt so am using vintage roses and pastels.

cwessel47 10-27-2012 09:38 AM

I will be FINISHING a mini I started last May! Just a little bit of handquilting left to be done. It has been put off and put off and put off as I was so afraid that I wouldn't be able to do it. Yesterday the curved binding went on - which I have never done before and it came out far beyond my expectations. I am so excited to get it finished.
