I sneak stuff in all the time. Certainly not because I need to hide my purchases, because I far outearn my husband, and our bills are paid, and savings /retirement contributions made, and no cc debt. It's more than my husband is frugal, and doesn't understand I need more clothes, purses, fabric or whatever, and I don't even want to discuss it. He will analyze whether he needs to spend $25 on something, and I bought a long-arm because I wanted it and could afford it (of coure I did discuss it with him before buying). It doesn't help that his only hobby is video games, and he could spend $60 on a game which he will play for a year.

the beauty of separate checkbooks....

What is it with men. My thinks things I buy are worth pence when in actual fact they cost dollars. I do not know what amount of fabric I have is really worth.

Dh knows exactly what I have. He adds to the stash and notions. Always supports my machine and fabric stash.

all over the house...
I have one displayed in the TV unit, one at the bottom of the steps to the basement, actually 2, a dome cabinet is sitting on a tredle machine and another dome lid on the buffet in the basement. I have an old Royal on my dresser and another itoy machine in my curio cabinet. Right now I have my little Janome set up in the living room on the desk. I am taking a table runner class that has a new runner every month and this way I watch TV with my husband, but sew a little. Two machines are in cabinets in the basement, and I use these when my daughters come to sew. I would really like to make a sewing area so that I could get organized...

My husband plays golf about three x's a week. I quilt. I genuinely love it that he plays golf. He proudly loves it that I quilt. When we were raising a family, we had to mind our pennies and couldn't afford to pursue our hobbies in this way. We're retired now, and golf and quilting are what it's all about! lol... We don't take cruises or other expensive vacations. We live fairly quiet, content lives.

But I must say... I oftentimes am tempted to Sneak things into the house - some kind of hardwired guilt? When that feeling comes over me, I repeat that first paragraph to myself. hahaha...

*adding an edit to this*
When I was 49, I quit smoking. I was nervous as a cat and told him I was thinking I should take up quilting, so I went to a local quilt shop and bought a pattern and some fabric. My sewing machine was an old Brother that I'd bought for myself when I was 20 - before I'd met him. I returned home with my new fabric, a book, and some basic, low-end tools and spent the evening figuring out what to do. The next morning he took me to breakfast and stopped at a quilt shop and bought me a Bernina. I love that man.

I can relate to these comments. While I don’t sneak things in side of hide them I also don’t mention that I have bought this or that today. Will often bring items home leave the packages on the bed for a couple of hours (in their shopping bags/boxes) then put it away. Sometimes I will put it all away immediately while he is standing there telling me what ever is on his mind. He seldom takes much notice at the time and when I do eventually bring something new out to use (or wear) and he says – when did you get that/I haven’t seen that before; I can honestly say, well I’ve had it for a few weeks. On the whole hubby is very supportive of my hobbies and encourages me to keep busy while I do likewise with him

Actually it is my daughter who will tell her father if she sees something new and say something along the lines of - Dad, Mum has been spending money again on fabric or what ever although he usually just retaliates with "leave your Mother alone , it makes her happy" then a day or two later when she isn't around he'll come and ask me what I have that he hasn't seen. He is a good man and I shall keep him.
