My DH wouldn't go to a quilt show. He has waited outside the wholesalers which is in a big tin shed. (great prices). He will admire what I make. He raved over one quilt and I've found out he does talk to others about what I do. He knows I make heaps of quilts for the kids charity I support and he gives me a very generous allowance.
His attitude is if it makes you happy just do it. He has said this to me quite often.

Never had to sneak anything in the house---he knows I love fabric and everything related to quilting.

I can relate to most who have responded to this thread. My DH doesn't really know what all I have in my sewing room (nor do I know exactly what is in his woodworking shop!) but he encourages me in this hobby and even is proud to show it to others. But it's not that I hide anything and we don't spend out of the "household budget". He makes more shelves when needed, makes quilt hangers, made the lovely tool caddy that I posted a picture of a few days ago, etc.

it really sounds like a problem.
i guess in lots of ways i am very lucky. first off, i would never consider 'hiding' a purchase of any kind (outside of gifts hidden until the day)it just seems dishonest.
i not only tell my hubby but i show my hubby everything i buy. he has been shopping with me plenty of times he knows what things cost, and he doesn't worry about it, as long as the bills are paid i can spend my extra money how ever i want, he does. i do not 'dip' into the household budget to feed my addiction, i support my quilting habit with quilting. most of the family helps with gift certificates for gift giving occasions so i can get those things i never want to spend my money on.
but, the only time i would ever hide a quilt shop purchase would be if i was going to make something for my hubby and him seeing what i bought would clue him in. other than that i can not imagine being 'sneaky' ...does not seem like a positive action to me...and nothing good can come from it

I agree with you. mine pays the bills and I save up in a Christmas Fund every year to buy gifts and and other things but I also decide to get one thing either for the house or in some cases for myself( which is not very often) I have just got a new car(for me) and he lent me the cash which I will be paying back at $160 a month. I am glad he lent me the money and he knows I like to repay any debt I have no matter who it is. So I never hide unless it is for him too.

I have found it better to ask for forgiveness than to ask permission just have to explain once why I have to have it

I snuck in a new sewing machine! He hasn't even noticed it (and I hope he doesn't ask!)

I got a Janome 3160 about 3 wks ago he has been in the sewing room serveral times and still hasn't noticed the extra machine could be because there are at lease nine machines in there so If he notices and ask I will tell like the military don't ask don't tell rule
