What small quilt projects are you working on today? I thought this would be a cool thread.
I am going to start making some potholders, trivets, oven mitts, etc. Karen "Craftybear" |
I made a tote bag, start to finish less than three hours this morning. Now working on sunbonnet sue blocks.
|
I cut batting and backing so I can pin and start to quilt my latest project tomorrow. I've been practicing FMQ so wish me luck. (Still can't get the hang of it LOL)

I just made two potholders yesterday, and an applique cat from the FatCat site just for fun today, have no idea what I'll do with it. lol!!
I finally got my DDIL's argyle quilt top done, and need to get backing for it, and fabric for my son's 'birthday quilt', so it was kind of nice just making some things for fun! :) |
New York Beauty PP blocks.
First time for me PP, I'm quite enjoying it too. |
When I need to work on a small project I work on my Grandmothers Flower Garden. Just little hexagons.
|
Today I am going to do a reverse applique block. I'm learning to quilt and this is lesson 5. My directions really don't explain what that back piece of material is suppose to look like. I don't know if it's suppose to be the same size as the block or just alittle larger than the cutout. So right now I'm looking for directions that clarify that.

I'm going to use up some scraps today and hopefully finish my locker hook rug. (But I have to admit, I'm online trying to find a fabric store open on Sunday)
|
Working on borders for a queen size quilt. Making a braid. I have 2 done, 1 with abut 3 more rows of blocks and then the last one to do. I figure I will finish them to day and tomorrow start attaching. I'd like to have this quilt top ready to send out by end of week. (UFO #1 of the year!)
Might pull another UFO- a table runner to do for some easy satisfaction of finishing a project. Only 6 more UFOs to get off my list! |
Haven't been in my sewing room for weeks so it's back in there for me today. Hope to finish up a little embroidered block so that I can piece a flannel wallhanging for our family cottage. Started this one a longggg time ago. Will fill good to get it done.
:) Good luck, everybody! lots2do...later |
today I need to add borders to 2 seperate quilts, one is rather large and the other a customers is on the small side.
|
I have cut out several small tissue holders and bookmarks that I like to have around for little gifts etc. I hope to start sewing on those soon. I am working on using up some of my small scraps. I am also using up my scraps by cutting out a crayon box quilt. I hope to be done with that today.

Making pillowcase dresses for Haiti & watching the Oympics
|
I started a baby quilt which I've named "So much fun ahead," when son and DIL announced a grandchild on the way. I'm using 4" blocks (both pieced and appliqued)that I had on hand, arranging them by a calendar theme (seasons, holidays, etc. in calendar order). After I got started, they made another announcement: TWINS! So now I'm making another set of 4" squares for a second quilt.
|
I am working on a bunch of stuff. lol
I am finishing the top for my daughters paper doll quilt (hope to have it done for her birthday on the 25th) Non-quilting but I am also working on 11 swimsuit coverup dresses and 3 towels with names on them. Swimming birthday party the 28th, the kids will get towels and coverups instead of candy and junk gift bags! lol Hopefully the kids will contenue to be good and I can get it all done! I also need to get the outline for a research paper done by midnight tonight! Ok back to sewing!!! lol MillieH, Congratuations on TWIN grandbabies! |
In honor of Valentine's Day, I'm going to piece 2 hearts with background/sashing and put each small "block" into a photo frame with a lovely label on back. I'll give them as February birthday gifts to a daughter who is physically + mentally challenged from severe Tuberous Sclerosis and her mother who has worked 30 hard years as her advocate.

My February Bee Blocks. I have two this months - a chocolate and berry, and something Christmassy.
|
I am seam ripping the binding i decided to machine sew onto my daughters quilt. it ended up a mess and looks terrible. once I seam rip it, I'll be hand sewing it. I hate it, but it looks the best. I finally figured out how to do it correctly.........

It's so fun reading that SO many people are doing sewing oriented things today!! I am STILL folding all my fabrics... my poor husband must not have had a clue - he asked me, when I was starting my fifth container, "You're folding ALL that?" He has no idea how much more I have to go and how much I've done while he's been busy elswhere!!! :) I'm SO glad to get my house organized though - --

Well, we had some water damage from the snow here in Oklahoma, and guess which ceiling had the worst damage? Yep! You guessed it. My sewing room, but that's a good thing. After replacing the roof, I got a new ceiling, and my room now has a fresh coat of paint. I can't wait to move back in there and start sewing, again.
I spent this afternoon shampooing the carpet. Next the molding goes up and I am ready to go:-) I am excited!!!! |
I am continuing to applique a large turtle shell for a wall hanging.
Congrates on the twin grandbabies! |
Just finished a doll quilt, and now I want to make another one. They are so much fun.
|
Just finished my February doll quilt for the swap. Next project is BIG - king size log cabin for our bed. I've been waiting a year to do it because of several "small" projects. Can't wait to do a really big one now.
|
I had scraps from our guild charity quilt. I ended up making 40+ 3" shoofly blocks--have put them into 3 different small quilts. will post when I get them finished.

Hi,
Wow, please post pictures so we can all enjoy! I just learned how to paper piece Monday night and have made 4 blocks so far. Wow, so easy and fun! Thanks again Sharon for teaching me in the snow storm! Was fun! I posted 2 of the blocks so far! I am going to start a blog just for show and tell of the things that I am making. I need to get to bed, 3:27 a.m. Indiana time. oh my! Karen My camera made it look like the blocks are crooked, but not, hummm, need to figure out a better way to take pictures of them! (crazy camera) My First Paper Piece Block 2/15/2010 2nd Paper Piece Block 2/15/2010 |
Finished a little baby doll quilt and pillow for my great niece, found it while cleaning and organizing sewing room :D Then cut out fleece for two toboggans, have about a dozen made, hope to get a couple more dozen then take to mission in town.

Both of my guilds are participating in the Million pillowcase project. I think I will whip up at least two pillowcases for each group and maybe a couple of Linus Quilts for the one meeting this thursday. They are actually going to be having a hands on workday. It is not physically good for me to drag my sewing machine etc. to the meeting for just a couple of hours. I will take hand sewing supplies so that I can help by sewing on labels etc. I currently have the parts of a T shirt quilt I am putting together for a customer laid out on my ping pong table. I guess I might get a little done on it today.

I'm working on a "Valentine Wall Hanging" I never finished. We are getting "snowed in" here in Ohio so I'll be ......sewing, sewing, and more sewing. ((hugs)) from "Snowey Ohio"

Congrates on the twin grandbabies! pattil - we're getting more snow too! it's the only way i've been able to get stuff done it seems! -- I'm going to make a tote bag/purse out of some turtle fabric I've been hoarding for a few years, then use the scraps in a "scrappy" turtle quilt (also collecting/hoarding fabric for that for years). -- I would love to get the tote finished, the turtle top pieced, and pieces cut for another wedding present today... ah such lofty goals... |
Well the reverse applique idea went out the window. It just seems to waste a great deal of material. So instead I'm embroidering the third butterfly on my hand applique block. Then choosing what technique I'd like to try next.
|
I have been working on a "quilts for kids"lap quilt. Today I plan to put on the binding. And hopefully finish it up so I can get it mailed out. Happy Sewing to all!
|
Working more on my GDD's quilt. If I can get off this board and get busy I should be able to finish the top today. If not today the top will be done by the weekend.
|
I'm working on baby shower favors and address cards for the new mommy (my niece)...will post pics when all done!!!

Almost finished sewing binding on a quilt for church, then I have another top that needs to be pinned and quilted and a third quilt I'm working on the blocks. Am I the only one that can't stick with one project before starting another. I wake up and say, "Well, which one will I work on today." So many projects and so little time.

I am going on retreat this coming weekend and have many things to bring with me. I'm going to be borrowing a friend's Bernina machine to do some stippling on a couple of small wall hangings, I plan on doing some Claudia's Quilt Shop mystery blocks, and will also be making the Notions Wall Hanging from Quilter's Cache. |
I don't work on small projects, baby quilts are the smallest I ever do, haven't done one of those in years, next two will be baby quilts. This week I'm organizing my fabric, got a new big cabinet and folding it to get it where I can see it and see what I have. I have tons and tons.
|
I am going to finish binding my sons B-day quilt, and two table runners I'm making for gifts. If I could get my behind off this computer.... LOL
