This is just so beautiful... I like the idea of a small white border and then a color... I think the piano keys would be too busy and draw away from the masterpiece you have made...

It`s a beautiful quilt. I agree that the border needs to be light and not detract from the delicate feel of the design. Congrats!

I immediately thought of a horizontal stripe border too. Piano keys would be wonderful. It would really set the center off and frame it well. I would love to have this pattern. Can you tell me the name of it please? And it is just beautiful too.

I am so amazed at this quilt. I have been watching your progress everytime you show us. that is fantastic. I agree I would almost use a white border, but I myself would do a 2 to 3 inch white border than a small 1 inch border or which ever color you like that a 3 to 4 inch white. and maybe do the binding in the same as the 1 inch border. But you would lay that out and see what I think. that is just my idea... thx for showing and asking us.

I also agree that a piano key border would be too heavy. I'd suggest a 2-3" white border then a narrow border, 1/2" - 1" wide, that's a favorite color from the pieced blocks. Finish up with another 3-4" white border and white binding. One other thought is the narrow border could be pieced using all the colors, but in short sections to match one of the sizes of squares in the center. I'd alternate these colored squares with white to lighten it up a bit.

I would definitely use a dark final border. I always do that as it finishes it off like a picture frame does. It brings all the blocks to an end. When you look at a picture on the wall without a border, it just doesn't look complete. My husband is an artist and taught me this about a final dark border. Any one of the darker prints would be fine as a final border. How long did it take for you to make this? It is very nicely done, and I am anxious to see the finished quilt.

Add another vote for QuiltE's suggestion of the 2/3 of a double nine patch block in the border - against the white fabric. While I like the idea of the piano key, I think it would be too heavy for the quilt, which is quite lovely as it is without any border at all.
