Years ago I researched and read 2 dogs of the world are able to be used in garments --meaning the hair doesn't smell when wet , also durable etc. I saved hair from my Samoyed dog for almost 6 years. Had it spun into yarn then I knit myself a shawl that I use a few times a yr. Usually on New Years eve with a dress. I had a book showing beautiful garments to make but the lady doing my spinning couldn't do more. I still have enough hair left it stuffs a
12 " square cushion. These both are washable and no animals ever pay any attention to me when I am around them. Comment that the spinner suggested using Samoyed hair with others but I wanted it plain but apparently then it was harder to spin into yarn. Mine is very soft and an off -white color. |
I have seen Pincushions filled with hair..... why not cat hair????

Long ago I knew some ladies that would spin their dog's hair into yarn and make hats, scarves, etc. with it to wear.

Batting! That's what I thought too. Hope is doesn't catch on too much or we'll have a lot of bald cats.

As I garden and have rabbits and squirrels that think the gardens are for their enjoyment, I spread my cat hair around the plants as it seems to keep them from munching on them. The kitties don't mind offering their hair either as that means they get brushed more often in the Spring and Summer time. Its a win-win for all involved.............:-)

I think the things you listed in the original post have been used for years and years. The soap marking thing probably for scores of years. New isn't always better.

With three cats I have plenty of hair. I'm always sweeping it up. My Chihuahua has hair about 1/2" long.

I always tell recipients of fabric gifts that the gifts contain lots of natural fibers because my two furry pests (cats this time) are attracted to fabric gifts. I do wash them after completing construction but it doesn't hurt to let people know about the natural fibers.
