I just finished a wolf panel with borders. I used some darker pinwheel blocks in it for interest and lots of borders and made a full size quilt using small woodland flowers, leaves, and tone on tone fabrics for variety. It looks like you are looking through a forest and seeing the wolf baying at the moon. Absolutely beautiful and not a lot of work. Since your panel runs horizontally you may need extra borders or blocks at the top and bottom to get a real "quilt" size and shape. Draw some outlines on paper to make a plan.

Thanks for all the suggestions. I think I'm going to follow wesings idea and use star blocks and some log cabin blocks. I will post when I'm done.

I saw a panel similar at the last retreat I attended.The gal cut the panel in equal size blocks then added sashings to make it look like you were viewing it through a window that had the 12 panes. It was stunning. She then added strip borders to make it the size she wanted.
Stonehenge has beautiful blues and silver fabric out right now that would be awesome with the panel! Can't wait to see the finished product! |

Here are two that I did. The deer is a lap quilt. The dogs is a wall hanging. Enjoyed doing both very much.

If you have any fabric that will go with the colors in the panel, what about doing piano keys all around the panel, then add whatever blocks you want, on tothat, or do you think that might be just too busy?

I agree, then I would do some "thread painting" on the deer during the quilting process to make them come alive. Also maybe some thread painting on the foliage. Then quilt around the deer to make them pop a little more. I remember seeing someone doing a process like this on some birds a week or so ago in the picture section of the board and it was phenomenal!

Have you gone to the manufacturer's website to see if they have any samples of this panel made into a quilt??? I would try to get the panel to be evenly divided length and width. I would do something with the browns and the blues in strip squares (like a trip around the world) Good Luck !!
