My mom passed away while working on a quilt. It took me seven years to get up the nerve to finish it, but I did. It was more than a quilt. It was THERAPY. When I brought those hideous patches out, I brought out all the old demons and love and anger and happiness, all of it came out.l When the last stitch went in, it was as if a weight had been lifted. It gave me closure to finish that quilt.

Maybe you don't need closure, maybe you don't need to work things out with grandma. But you'll finish more than a quilt, no matter what. It is a journey--don't delay in taking it!

A lady brought me blocks she found after her mother in law died. She had made the from fabrics from clothes they had i could tell this and the background white was very thin and had marks on it. She asked at the quilt shop if anyone would do this for her my friend who owned the shop sent her to me. I told her it can't be a fast and get it done thing I need time to do it. I took my time and put it on my design board and played with that quit for hours the lady herself came over and we moved blocks here then there. But in the end it was beautiful I got all the marks out and squared up the blocks couldn't do it as the picture showed exactly because there was an uneven amount of blocks but she was very happy with the quilt and I felt when I gave it to her it was part of me now. We sent it to the quilter and then back to me to bind it. Now that quilt has history her MIL, me and the lady who quilted it. It is now on her spare room bed (her MIL's bed) and is loved....So please start now and get it done you will feel the love it's nothing you can explain till your doing the quilt. It wasn't even anyone I knew but from what the lady told me I could feel it. Now we are friends....

I vote for "finish it"!

That's the best reason to finish it. The connection between the generations. What story to pass on.

I have alot of WIP that my MIL left unfinished. I will finish them one day.. I smile cause I can imagine that my MIL would be right there next to me, whispering how she wants me to finish them, stitch by stitch.. ...

Maybe I should put it in my will. Anything I leave behind should get finished by someone. They can think of me the whole time or not. This attitude frees me to keep designing and making lots of projects. I want to enjoy my life and leave some of that joy behind.

I'd finish it. I think G-Grandma would be happy about that. One of my dearest quilts came from my grandmom after her death. She had several quilt tops in her cedar chest and they were given to her grandchildren; my mom had ours quilted before she gave them to us. It's a brown and white checkerboard but it's dear to me as this one is/will be to you and your children.

finish it...She would be honored that you thought so much of her and the quit top.
