What would you use this bag for??
2 Attachment(s)
I am making some christmas presents for my sisters and sisters in laws this year. I have made this up for the test to see if they come out nice enough to give them as gifts. I am thinking of filling them with fun spa things or just baked goods and let them figure out what they want to store in them. Not sure yet which would be the best. It does drawstring all the way closed.
This is called a spa bag from an old (2001) Better Homes and Gardens quilt magazine. I am thinking these would be great for a quilter to take things to a class with too because of all the pockets that are all the way around the outside of it. Here it is ... What would you put in it? And what colors would you like it in? I want them to be all different. |
I see a gorgeous gift bag - and I'd put in small things for each recipient -- a teapot and specialty teabags; gardening gloves, seed packets & small hand tools; tools for the fellow in your life; picnic quilt, napkins, etc. You could choose the fabrics to match the interests. Gorgeous bag and what a great idea!!

Oh Red, I want one!!!! it would hold gifts nicely or just a gift in itself. how big is it?
it could be used as an elegant evening bag, or very nice just on a shelf. do you have a pattern or a tut????? we need to swap something so I can get my grubby little hands on one of them!! |
I would fill with whatever they're into! Most favorite thing for them!

Idindividualize each bag. What a great gift! Want to adopt me??
What an awesome gift. I like red or blue but any color would do. Because it's such a nice size, it could be use for lots of things. Lucky sisters and sisters-in-laws.
I would use it in my sewing room in place of one of my open baskets. But I'd already have my tools and notions to fill it. This would be more organized. The bag is a really nice gift in and of itself. I'd try to come up with a little saying, or poem, to go with each one to give them ideas of what it could be used for including some of their interests. No matter what the gift is, even this gorgeous bag, some people's first thought would be "what am I ever going to do with that?" They do need some help. I've never seen a prettier handmade bag!

I would use it as a knitting bag...love it
It is a very beautiful bag. Your color choices are excellent!
First of all, I love your bag! It is so pretty and yet useful too. I would fill it with spa things, with the color of bags being the favorite colors of the recipient.
Very pretty bag. Looks like you've already got lots of ideas from others. But I agree with the personal interest of each lady. That way they all can see how many ways it can be used.
Love your bag! I think the bag itself is a wonderful gift, if you want to fill it with something, manicure and pedicure items are almost always welcomed.
I would use it just as a summer purse.
i made one for a lady [her request] that was like that ....she wanted it for a bingo bag
Thank you girls! Two of them travel a lot and I was thinking this might make a good organizer for them to put cosmetics in. I have some really nice travel/airplane fabric for those.
I am really glad you all like it. I think I will go ahead with the gift bags then. |
With a stronger tie, it would make a beautiful purse, too.

Here is the magazine cover girls. Maybe that will help you find it easier. It seems to me that I saw it in one of their other publications that was only purses and bags. But, I can not remember the name of that soft cover book.

Your bag is fabulous! Beautiful! Gorgeous! Love your fabric choices, and the beautiful cording. I am soooooo impressed! And your work looks so meticulous! The recipients will love receiving these, I know!

My Mom would use it for her Bingo supplies and momey.
I'm repeating what everyone else has already said, but your bag is gorgeous! I can see it made in rich velvets with perhaps a bottle of liqueur and two glasses or even made out of terry with soaps and shampoo and conditioner.
I have a smaller version of this that is good for jewelry or underthings in suitcases.
Oh my, it's really very pretty! Very girlish. I'm sure anyone would love to have one.
I would use it as wrapping paper...for a candle, vase, or just about anything. |
Me too! I want one. Like DianneK said, perfect for my sock knitting project take along. Is this your design and/or is there a pattern available?
I was thinking the same thing...Bingo Bag. My mother inlaw would have loved this.

I am searching the pattern too. My mother has to carry her diabetic supplies with her and this would be a beautiful way to do that. I hope I can find a pattrern like it.

What a nice bag! It would make a cute gift bag for another quilter with some notions in it!
How would the bag look in plaids and stripes ? Light weight Denim in shades of Blues or Light weight Twill in solid with a coordinating Print for Pockets.... You could tuck Small Notecard sets, Notepads, Pens, stickers, writing paper, new Address Book, Postcards and envelopes, index cards or how about for the Baker/Cook, small utensils in the Pockets and a nice Smaller cookbook and recipe cards and pot holders inside.( Kitchen Collection Store has a whole Display area of little Kitchen gadgets). Any of the colors your sisters or sister in laws enjoy would look wonderful and Great Job...
If anyone finds this pattern please let me know how to get it.

It is very pretty, it would be great if you could make them to match each recipient's bathroom, it would look lovely on a counter with a bottle of hand soap, lotion, small hand towels, much better than a bowl or basket of toiletries.
I recently saw this pattern on one of the free bag pattern sites. I am not sure which one but might have been "About Sewing" I do agree it would be useful for anything.

I love it! And your choice of fabric is very classy!
Oh how cute and nicely done. What a nice gift filled with bath items. Things we don't buy for ourselves.
I'd love to receive one. Flo in NNY |
LOL great bag to take to my bingo games. All the supplies would have a home.
Ok I am not usually much of a bag lady but I just love, love, love this one. So what month in 2001 is the issue of that magazine so I can find it? I did look for the 6 pocket bags online but didn't see one like this with the lower drawstring and the cute little flaps at the top. Thanks so much!
I have a bag very simular to the one you've made.. Mine has small pockets all the way around the inside.. I use mine for a travel jewerly bag.. all the earrings and small chains go in the pockets, watches or chunky necklace go in the middle.. the draw string pulls the top closed tightly so nothing can fall out or get tangled up. I have used my bag for years... I don't want to travel with my 'jewels' in any other way!!
I see Red in my future, very nice, i would use it as a evening bag, so darn cute, thank you for sharing
Beautiful bag all by itself.
